Wilbur does not yet completely know how to write, but he practices every day; with a single piece of straw and an undying determination as his only tools, Wilbur strives to learn how to write one day so that he may tell his story to someone other than the pigs and horses that roam his farm. Through snow and rain, through hail and wind, Wilbur works tirelessly, scribbling makeshift letters into the tired earth. But he always works at night, though nobody knows why. Some say that it's to avoid the prying eyes and teasing remarks of others; others say that he simply works best at night, with the moon and the stars shining down on him and giving him the courage to continue. Either way, at the crack of dawn, new words (or attempts at words) can be spotted in the dirt surrounding the farm, and a tired but content Wilbur can be found sleeping among the horses, a trail of words leading up to his resting body. And if you examine closely, you can always find a pair of words, perfectly written, near his paws:
