Animal: Besides the real cliche animals (Dogs, cats, horses, etc.), My favorites are probably the Fossa and the Maned Wolf. Both are exotic and rare, each one looking like a species they aren't really related to.
Although Fossa's look like cats, they actually aren't related to them. It's classification was actually a big controversy, because it resembled a cat, yet was closely related to the mongoose family. They eat lemurs and are endemic to Madagascar, making them extremely rare and hard to find. It is actually the largest carnivore on the island, somewhat the size of a cougar.
Maned Wolves aren't related to foxes, wolves, neither is is closely related to any other canid. It is the only species in the genus Chrysocyon (meaning "golden dog"). - Wikipedia. The maned wolf's ears can reach up to 7 inches long, and is recognised as the tallest wild canid.
