Why do they hide their face? Ever since Erebus was a child, he'd been ashamed of their "third eye". No one else paid any notice to it, their friends thought it was pretty cool, but Erebus was a superstitious kid and always thought they might be possessed, so they kept their hair covering their eye and mask around their face. As they grew older they began to rely on their mask as something to hide behind it. Whenever an awkward situation would arise, they'd just shrug, point to their mask and walk away. They began to depend on it, for both protection from whatever lives in their "eye" and from the social interactions they just didn't want to face.

Why do they hide their face? Haruka was born with a serious case of immunodeficiency disorder, leaving their immune system to be incredibly weak. As a child, they would easily fall ill, and thus spent more time at home rather than out in the world. Since their knowledge of the outside world was very minimal, they always fantasized about it, hoping they could one day leave the comfort of home to explore the vastness of the world.
When a mysterious kalon named Kenta stumbled into them at a regular hospital visit, Haruka was convinced they ran right into their guardian angel. Kenta gifted him a small mask, which was designed to filter the air and thus make the chances of Haruka falling ill very slim.
Ever since Haruka received the mask, they have been making less frequent trips to the hospital, and they now travel with Kenta, serving as an apprentice of sorts. They are finally fulfilling their dream of exploring the world.

Why do they hide their face?
Well, how else is Navada going to sneak out and see his friends? Being a prince, of course, leaves no time for him to spend with the "common folk" and make friends; so, being the mischievious little brat he is, made himself a matching mask and hoodie to sneak out at night. He uses it for many more reasons though; for one, it helped him become a better Kalon. When none of the citizens knew who he was, they'd speak earnestly about the prince's behavior, and in turn he'd modify his behavior for the better. He also wears the mask to hide his actual markings; with his coat color & markings, long eyelashes, and soft voice, he seems astoundingly feminine. The mask not only hides his girlish looks and "starface", but also makes his voice seem gruffer than it really is. The biggest reason, though, is still to sneak off of the royal grounds and go hang out with his friends, deface public property, get crazy, maybe drink a bit. You know, be a "normal" Kalon teenager. It's kind of funny, really; everyone wanted to be royalty, but the one who is royalty, just wants to be a normal kid.
