FIRSTLIFE (book)

Book/Movie/Game genre:
Romance, fantasy, teen fiction, futuristic.

Review:
Firstlife is my most recently finished book, and I decided it would be fun to make a review on it. The first few chapters were wonderful, and had definitely caught my attention. I couldn't stop reading it! (The emails were very, very interesting)
But... Here's why I ended up disliking the book.
By the first three pages, you end up knowing that Tenley, our great main protagonist, is an unbelievably special snowflake. This fact is stressed continuously throughout the book, and honestly, it's an overused plot. Unless it's used properly in a interesting way, it gets annoying.
~The setting is just full of holes. The asylum is described pretty decently, but when Ten and the other victims escape, they step into a freezing mountain world with a ton of snow that could get you frostbite in just a few minutes. It's like, uh, what in the world just happened? There was little to no mention of the weather outside the asylum, besides that the floor and walls were cold. Once they got out of the freezing snow, they end up in more modern surroundings... How did that happen? Not to mention that when she entered many ends, I had to reread the paragraph over three times to get what was happening.
~The sides are described a tad bit terribly. Troika is stiff and full of rules, while Myriad is basically all "Do what you want". Both realms offer very similar things, and the realms aren't described any better until way later. It mentions once that Troika is "futuristic", but this isn't further explained in the book(Besides the gadgets and such). Myriad just seems like the modern world, but this too isn't further explained.
~Basically, Troika is Light while Myriad is dark. I mean, come on, Gena Showalter. Light and dark? Most overused versus sides? I was honestly very disappointed. The author could've at least used it more as symbolism, but nooo, she smacked it right into the book directly. And the fact that Myriad was the dark side was pretty much a beacon saying, THIS SIDE IS GONNA BE THE EVIL SIDE. And it was. Myriad attempted to murder Ten and her friends multiple times. Step up your game, Myriad.
~Okay, so, Ten didn't want to choose a side. She wanted time to think. Oh wow, off to the asylum you go! All because she didn't want to choose a side. I honestly think that's an overreaction. Being sent to an asylum just because you wanted more time isn't insane, so being sent to an Asylum isn't necessary. Not to mention that she was tortured... Again, stupid and unclear.
~Throughout the whole entire book, TEN NEVER SAID WHY SHE DIDN'T WANT TO CHOOSE. There were always little hints here and there, but Ten had never said her reason for stalling. This would be irritating to the reader, because I know it was for me.
~Troika and Myriad are constantly at war. WHY, though?! Like Ten's reason for not choosing a side, the reason for the constant their warring was also never directly mentioned. We can suppose both sides want world dominace, but that's pretty much as far as we can go.
~Do NOT get me started on the romance. When Ten first saw Killian, it was obvious she was going to end up loving him. However, the way he was intoduced into the plot made me insantly hate him, and that's not including his early behavior. The character buildup around him failed miserably, and it didn't make me feel any softer towards him.
~Ten displays her parents as cruel guardians who didn't care what happened to her. But she still seems to love them, and her mother's trait is unclear. When she visited Ten, she told Ten she was sorry, but not necessarily that she still loved Ten...
~The writing is very choppy, and Ten's thoughts constantly disrupt the text. It's confusing, and gives me a headache.
FIRSTLIFE had a lot of potential, and it's sad to see it going to waste. I do love Gena Showalter's book, though :D

Review:

The Princess Bride is a fast paced funny adventurous film with outstanding actors.
It's fun to watch with family, friends, or alone. The film may have been made in 1987 but it is a outstanding film.

With the actors, Cary Elwes as Westley, Robin Wright as Buttercup, Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya, Andre the Giant as Fezzik, Wallace Shawn as Vizzini, and many more actors, the film is a complete, funny, adventurous experience.

The plot is seriously hilarious and makes you want to just keep watching. You won't be able to pull your eyes away from the screen. Before you sit down and turn on the tv, you just might want to grab a snack because you won't want to get up. Some warm blankets would be advised also.

If you don't like horror movies or overly joyous ones, this is the perfect movie for you. I recommend it, with hardly any jump scares and hardly any cheesy moments, this movie is the perfect one to watch on a nice calm night, or a stormy one. You will want to watch it over and over again.

So if you are looking for a nice movie to watch this is the one you have been waiting for you will love it and I personally guarantee that. With twists and turns and the occasional laugh ( not occasional they're everywhere) this is the perfect movie for anyone to watch
