It was hazy, as though a light fog had descended upon the world all at once. Stars glittered above in astonishing amounts, yet the moon was absent. All around, trees and plants were only silhouettes, black splotches plastered on the endless blue expanse of sky. The grass below her paws was moist, wet from dew that arrived from a morning that never came. A soft melody rippled through the air in fluent movements that could lure one to sleep in an instant. Above, birds rested in their nests, fast asleep in the dark expanse. It was peaceful and quiet. Kotel gazed at the star speckled sky for a long moment before walking foreword. Instantly, she began to rise into the sky, each step carrying her higher. Fear blossomed at first, but was replaced by wonder at the sight she beheld. Mountains painted black against the gradient blue sky. Just behind the mountain, a silver moon rose steadily, painting the earth in its gentle light. For several moments, Kotel wondered if she had died and if this was the entrance to the afterlife. Suddenly, a burst of silver mist swept up to her in a spiral from the earth and rested just before her, hovering in a cloud. Slowly, a shape began to form from the mist. Dazzling, star struck eyes, milky red fur painted with white, and a sleek build filled with grace. Kotel's eyes filled with tears as she gazed at the silvery cloud of her late mother. She strained to speak, to say something, but the words were cut off and choked down. Her mother smiled softly and approached her, pressing her muzzle against Kotel's in adoration. Kotel allowed the tears to spill out and embraced her mother, weeping heavily as though she were young once more. Her mother smiled softly and ran a paw along her back, enjoying the moment with her daughter. Kotel pulled away and gazed at her mother with amazement, but felt her heart break as her mothers image slowly began to fade. Her mother pressed her nose against Kotel once more before fading completely. The moon had risen fully now, its shimmering form illuminating the world below. Kotel smiled and closed her eyes, remembering her mothers image. A single tear rolled down her cheek and fell, a happy tear. It rolled to the earth below and landed on the soft grass. Instantly, the world rippled to life, glowing with color and sound. Kotel opened her eyes and gazed at the world below, her home. Then, she awoke. At first, she strained to rest once more, but her mind refused. She sighed contently, feeling peace and joy at seeing her mother for one more time, something she had wished for for years past.
