Sickness hung in the air, it’s hold on the room tight. Astra stood silent beside her mother,
the only one she had left. The older female gave a racking cough,
“..Astra…. My dear… There’s something for..you.. on the table,” Her mother croaked out,
taking breaks to gasp for air. Astra retrieved the bell from the table, and slid it on, eyes teary.

Others often point out that his bell is defective and has no sound, when in reality that's exactly what Kenai wants. The bell isn't actually a bell. It's a spy cam fashioned to appear like a bell. A child with a spy cam might sound odd. Kenai doesn't use it for spying, though, because he thinks that would be ludicrous. He actually uses his camera for recording his parkour adventures! He's just a beginner at parkour, but he's improving. By re-watching his stunts through his spy camera he is able to figure out what he needs to work on.

cass is extremely adventurous and brave. every decision she makes is on the fly and usually regretted. her grandmother made her collar when cass decided she'd be living as a farmer forever! her grandparents lived in a farmhouse with animals they raised. she'd thought all farmers wore bells, neckerchiefs, and cowboy hats as her grandparents did. cass's farming adventure did not work out. cass learned she was allergic to horses and hay, so she gave up her rash decision on farming. that still doesn't mean she can't wear her cowgirl bell, though!

Lion wears the bell because he has extremely bad, yet sensitive, hearing and high pain tolerance; he uses the bell as a way to warn him when there's danger. The loud ringing is enough to make him look around his surroundings before he actually gets into any real danger. The long ribbon is for him to fiddle with when he's nervous and also acts as an anchor of sorts; it often snags on sharp objects, warning Lion that there is an obvious danger or potential hazard.

Catori was born an unusual plumie, from her grandparents she inherited the talent of being able to see spirits, hence her name. This is rare in her lands and often troubled spirits will come to her for peace or guidance. Though young she is wise.
The Bell at her throat was a gift from her grandfather worn on a sacred ribbon. It's dual purpose is to tinkle at a high note when spirits are near but also is a charm to ward off evil spirits. The Bell rarely sounds unless Catori is needed.
