Personality

Kate is kind and open minded, hardworking and passionate. She has a habit of speaking before she thinks and she’s trying to work on that. But sometimes she just gets so excited or upset that she’ll just blurt out whatever she’s thinking, tripping over her words, and sometimes not making much sense. She’s confident with friends and loves getting attention, but can be quiet at first when she’s alone or in new situations. No matter what the situation though, Kate is incredibly sassy. She can get frustrated easily when something’s not going right, like if her project isn’t going well or something breaks. But she perseveres until she can solve the problem. And if she can’t fix it, she’s not afraid to ask for help. If Kate’s really frustrated she’ll start muttering at whatever isn’t cooperating. She’s grumbled at a bunch of picture frames she was hanging because they just wouldn’t hang straight. She’s very loving and friendly. Kate loves all of her friends and enjoys spending lots of time with them. Her favorite thing to do is take selfies together, usually silly ones.

Kate’s always been curious. When she was a kid she was always asking questions. Her parents told her she sounded like a scientist. She began questioning her gender when she was thirteen. She never felt overly “girly,” she just accepted that she was a girl because that’s what she’d been called all her life. When she was thirteen though, she thought she might be trans and decided she wanted to be referred to with masculine pronouns. He also changed his name to Jason.

It didn’t go over smoothly with everyone in their family. There were several aunts and uncles that refused to call him by his preferred name and pronouns. There’s a grandfather that he doesn’t speak to anymore because of this. Their cousins were generally more open minded and actually asked what it meant to be trans instead of immediately laughing at them. Not all of his cousins understood but they at least respected his pronouns. They identified as a trans boy for a couple years before they began to question their gender again.

When he was seventeen he began to feel like he was missing something. Like there were parts of his identity that he used to have but didn’t now. Some things he missed were wearing dresses and being called “clever girl” and being referred to by his birth name. Missing dresses and being feminine didn't have to mean he wasn't a boy. But, it got Jason thinking, and re-questioning what being a guy or a girl meant and who he was. Was femininity only for girls? He'd seen some guys that wore dresses. Did he want to be a feminine guy? After some more questioning and self discovery, he decided he didn’t feel entirely feminine but he didn’t want to leave that part of his identity behind. That's when they realized they were genderfluid. After some more thought they realized they didn’t feel entirely masculine either. They changed their name back to Kate because they wanted something to acknowledge their demigirl identity, and because they really did like their birth name.

Since he realized he was genderfluid, some people have asked if he was wrong when he called himself a trans boy. Kate doesn't think he was wrong. His identities are meant to help him make sense of who he is, and at times help him convey that to others. So, he was right when he called himself a trans boy because that's what felt right at the time. And now genderfluid feels like the term that best describes him.

So Kate is genderfluid fluctuating between demiboy, a somewhat masculine gender, and demigirl, a somewhat feminine gender, for now. He feels pretty solid in this identity but realizes that he’s always growing and changing, so his identity might shift again one day.

Dreams

Kate wants to be a DJ someday. His favorite music genre is techno. For a recent birthday he got a launchpad and he loves it to pieces. He spends at least an hour everyday working on mixes. If his schedule gets too busy for that, he gets frustrated because music really is his life.

He also wants to get a tattoo. A couple music notes because of his love of music. But also because he lives his life "to the beat of his own drum," and he’s not going to let anyone’s prejudice stop that.

Hobbies

Obviously they spend a lot of their time making music. But they also like hiking and taking walks in nature reserves. They love helping people and animals, so they volunteers once a week at the animal shelter. They started out just walking dogs and playing with cats, but graduated to cleaning cages and giving food and medication. Kate also likes reading, particularly mysteries. Two of their favorite books are Pride and Prejudice and Freakboy.

Okay, I have now finally made up my mind about things after having taken some hard time considering things and I'm going to give this one to Gazoonia. I found the idea with the tweets really interesting and unique and the way that helped present the character you had built up for this guy just really did it for me in the end.
