Is their mane/tail naturally that short or cut and why: Jazzy's mane was not always short like this. It was chewed by her pasture buddy, but her forelock always was untouched. So after weeks of her owner trying to stop the chewing and failing, Jazzy ended up with odd lengths in her mane. So snip snip, her mane was cut and she was separated from that other horse to allow her mane to grow back.
As for her tail, well, that's her quirk.

How do they feel about their appearance?: Jazzy likes her short mane, it has been quite a relief for her since the other made no longer tugs and bites on it anymore. She is expecialy fond of her forelock because it bounces when she trots and she things its fairly funny. She also thinks her short tail is cute, like a little lamb's tail. She enjoys trying to wag it like the lambs do, but she can't get it quite right.

One Quirk: As I mentioned before, Jazzy's quirk has to do with her tail. As a part of being with the horse who chewed her mane, when separated from her buddy that she was so fond of, she got a bit stressed and started chewing and pulling on her tail to comfort herself. Well, as you can imagine, that didn't end well and she has chewed her curly tail to the short length it is now as she can not get it any shorter. Good news for her owners as it has seemed to have broken her odd behavior. For now at least.

One Extra(Personality):
When you first meet Jazzy, she can come off as tomboyish and headstrong, shes also very determined. While she can sometimes be short-tempered when things don't go her way, Jazzy is also kind. She likes to see the good in others and loves to laugh. Jazz is also very free-spirited and likes to be adventurous, discovering new things and learning all she can. But sometimes her curiosity and her intellect get her into trouble.

Is their mane/tail naturally that short or cut and why:
Gimmick has always loved the woods. Even as a foal they would walk among the trunks on wobbly knees, looking up at the birds and the patches of sunlight that filtered emerald through the leaves. Their mane and tail, thick with curls and spilling over the arch of their neck and ankles, constantly got in their way. Gimmick was forever jerking their head free and yanking strands out, surging forward to free their tail and losing a fistful of hair. It did not take long into their adolescence for a ranch-hand to notice the bedraggled locks and take fixing it into their own hands. They hacked off Gimmick's long tail and shorn the majority of their mane, leaving the forelock as it had been one of the only sections to survive childhood unscathed. Their mane and tail is touched up once a month by the ranch-hand who had originally cut it, and as such it mostly maintains its style. It does not get in their way as much anymore as they meander through the woods, and scarcely catches on anything at all these days.

How do they feel about their appearance?:
Gimmick is completely in love with their haircut. They have never overly identified with their sex and have always prompted friends to use they/them pronouns so the haircut did them good. It helps make them look less feminine, helps divide them from their sex more cleanly. Gimmick of course also cherishes the reputation it gives them; they are immediately noticeable anywhere they go on Clovercliff grounds, can be sighted and identified at a distance, and they like the sort of careless appearance it gives them. Often when they meet strangers they are intimidated by Gimmick, for their size and their high head and clever eyes, and Gimmick likes it this way. At least if they're a little scared they'll respect it when they ask them to use their preferred pronouns. They also like the bounce the forelock provides and has a habit of tossing their head when nervous or thoughtful, letting the forelock spill over their eyes as they consider a tough problem or an uncomfortable situation.

One Quirk:
When Gimmick is speaking to someone who has an accent they repeat it back to them thoughtlessly. They can come across as callous or even rude, sometimes implying that Gimmick is trying to make fun of the way someone sounds but Gimmick does it unintentionally and does not ever mean anything bad by it. In fact rather wistfully they wonder sometimes about having an accent themselves, and sometimes practice on one when they're alone. They are especially fond of the god horses, who all speak in old ways or use weird words. While engrossed in conversation with one Gimmick might be seen mouthing a word they have just said, testing it in their mouth and rolling it against their tongue. With accents they are less subtle; sometimes they will just parrot an entire phrase back to the other horse, laughing when their tongue moves in odd ways and bumps against their teeth. Mostly the horses understand now that Gimmick doesn't mean anything by it but often they get into rows with strangers for the quirk.

One Extra:
To Gimmick the woods offered sanctuary. There was something surreal about standing among the white skin of the birch trees and the incredible height of the oaks, something about the way the weather became vastly new in the woods, how the light bent around the leaves and came to the ground weak or green or translated into reds and oranges in autumn. Gimmick liked how the woods changed because in a way it reminded them of themselves; they too were fluid and more than they seemed. At first glance the woods were fairly straightforward, a narrow section of trees on the northeast end of Clovercliff that had been there for as long as any horse could remember.

But once you forged a path through the thorn thickets and the quick creeks and the caves that gaped black in the corner of your vision there was something wonderfully new underneath the trees. Gimmick liked that despite their initial opinion of the woods there was always something new to find, something changing with the season or with use. Flowers grew where none had before, trees shed leaves or breathed pollen, rain sought the soil in rivulets down trunks that always changed direction.

Is their mane/tail naturally that short or cut and why:
Originally, Soprano's mane was about the same length as her forelock, but her handler noticed that their hands kept getting tangled, so the put to up in about twenty little 'bun' style things. Soprano didn't like it a ton, but it's what her handler wanted, so she put up with it. Then came the six year old. She haw Soprano's handler's daughter, so Soprano didn't think anything of it when she climbed up on her and fell asleep. When she awoke, she found the six year old gone and each bun cut off at a different length. Her handler was devastated, but decided the best thing to do was to cut it all the way off. Both Soprano and her handler are happy with the results.
How do they feel about their appearance?: Soprano adores her new look. Even though it was an accident, and she is used to a longer mane, she finds this style much easier to deal with and super cute anyways!! She never saw herself as much of a short maned mare, but think she'll keep it as long as her handler will let her.
One Quirk: Soprano, despite her name, cannot stand singing, or music in general. We discovered this when we started to try and train her in dressage. She has mastered most of the moves, but freaks out and refuses to preform with music. We have solved this problem with a pair of 'muffs'. They look rather silly, but prevent Soprano from hearing the music so she can preform.
One Extra:
Soprano tossed her forelock out of her eyes as she examined her new home. She could see several other Tolters, as well as many Hyrulian Gypsies in the pastures, and heard the barking of Baltic Huskies in the kennels behind the house. Several barn cats poked their heads out and examined her before returning to play. A nearby stallion whinnied a greeting,

"Hello baby, you lost?" The palomino winked flirtatiously at her. Soprano rolled her eyes.

"Bug off." she told the stallion tersely, "I can figure out my own way here, thank you very much. A silver bay mere whickered a laugh.

"Don't mind Apollo." The mare said, "he's still new too. A lot of new comers recently. I'm Sylvania, but call me Penn. Who are you?"

Soprano smiled, "Call me Soprano. Nice to meet you Penn. Do you run this place?"

Penn laughed, "Oh, mercy no! If anyone runs it, it's Hera. Or at least she thinks she does."

Soprano smiled, "One of those, hu?"

Penn grinned, "Exactly. I think you and I will get along smashingly."

Is their mane/tail naturally that short or cut and why: Shelly got her tail cut due to it dragging in the dirt too much. When her rider would brush it out there would be clumps of mud, dirt, and hay stuck together in it, so she has enough and got it cut. In the end Shelly loves her short tail, its easier to maintain and it doesn't get as knotted up!

How do they feel about their appearance?: Shelly loves how she looks, she isn't self conscious about her body size or how what she mane and tail looks like. She embraces her body (yes she is a little bigger than other mares but she doesn't mind) nor does she body shame herself.

One Quirk: Shelly loves acting! She will write little plays and act them out with herself or sometimes have one of her pasture mates join her. She really loves romances or humor plays, they represent her personality perfectly!

Vail's mane and tail is short like this because, first she doesn't like a long mane and tail because of how curly her hair is and also because she loves to dance. Keeping her mane long, it always gets in her face, causing her to have a hard time seeing. Vail also seems to get hot easily and with that long mane gone, incomes the wind and out away goes the feeling of sweaty hair pressed against her neck. Dancing is life for her, well, so is camping she can find such amazing things when going camping. Her moves are so graceful and in sinc with the music. It just comes to her is what she always says. Music is so peaceful and upbeat and she loves the feel of it. Once she hears music, she will start dancing and there's nothing stopping her now. She will get others to try and dance with her and she's even successfully gotten Axle, the grump of the stables to dance with her and have at least a little bit of fun. And she always ends up giggling as she watches her curly hair flop about as she's dancing.

If anyone tries to say that they are ugly or not pretty she will always tells them, "It doesn't matter what you look like it's what you are like inside that counts, and anyways, there's nothing wrong with you, you are just different. And being different is a good thing. Being normal is boring, how 'bout you be different for a change. Its so much funner!" She's acts so motherly towards the foals and sometimes wishes she would have a foal of her own. But that defiantly doesn't stop her from prancing around the stables like a foal and doing her favorite thing, dancing.

Twirp, twirp. I here a bird somewhere up in the trees. I look around as we walk through the wide trail. "Come on slow poke!" I yell behind me. Clear behind me is August. I don't know why they brought him with us, he just likes sitting back and relaxing and that's Augusts thing. "I'm coming, I'm coming" August mutters. The only thing that August does not like is going on trail rides. I look in front of me as I see something scurrying through the thick vegetation. I peer closer, oh, it was just a squirrel. Wait, what’s that? I look closer in the bushes, there, yes that's it. As we walk by the bush, I slow down just barely and flip my hair. While doing that I snatch the light blue string from the bush. Yes! Got one!. This would go perfectly with the yarn collection I have. Whenever I can I am always on the lookout for stray strings that I can put with my collect in my stall. It's a secret stash, so shhh, no one knows about it! I love collecting them, it brings color to my stall, that is of course, when no one is looking.

Vail absolutely hates vets and any type of doctor. They always poke and prod her and always end up messing up her hair and they just smell very strange. She loves trying to fool the doctors and in the end of a doctor or vet visit she always ends up laughing her head off because of what she did to them. But, Vail loves to learn and always strives to expand her knowledge. Whether it be an interesting natural phenomenon, a new fashion or something strange she found and wants to try, she's always the one to ask the question 'Why?' Without an answer, she will not rest until she finds it out herself. She loves new and fashionable halters and saddles. She also loves to strut about in them and can be seen staring at her self in the barn mirror for hours. But Vail is not a complete girly-girl, she actually hates pink not only because it doesn't really look good on her, but because she just doesn't like the color pink. Vail instead loves the colors green and blue, they are so natural. She also loves to go camping with her rider, but she is not so fond of the mud and mosquitoes. Vail actually likes most bugs, but mosquitoes just drive her nuts! Once camping, Vail loves to explore the surrounding area around the camp ground.

Is their mane/tail naturally that short or cut and why: It was her unfortunate destiny, she had no choice. A stranger marched up to her with vulgar, malodourous shears and clipped lock after lock of soft, wavy hair. She had no say has they snipped her tail completely off, right to the bone. Her little human would never do such a thing. Her human would devote countless hours plaiting the mare’s mane and tail. Granted, it wasn’t exceptionally long, but it was sufficient enough to make the little girl happy. Obviously, young Lila had to have to finest pony out on hacks. Now wasn’t like then. Lila was gone and the clippers were loud and smelt of foul. She could feel the zephyr on her now bare neck. She didn’t protest, she just stood there, dazed almost. A young man began to sweep away the fallen hair with a make-shift broom, murmuring “sorry” to the mare every single time he accidentally hit one of her hooves. When it was over she was lead to a shack to be branded as now property of war. (174 words)

How do they feel about their appearance?: Naomi had no accurate assumption about her now sheered mane and tail. Yet, one word did come to mind, ‘new’. To the pony, her nor others appearances mattered. Looks were like walls to the inner exquisiteness of all living creatures. A human could have the most stunning face yet be retched and cursed within. A horse, talented or not, was zilch if they couldn’t care for their rider. Her waves were but reminiscences to her now cut away to start a new life. Clean slate. She was jolted out of her dazed by the new lumps on her shoulder that declaim “4657 FLC”. She was no longer Naomi, but 4657 Front Line Calvary. (113 words)

One Extra: She undoubtedly was not the initial owner of her uniform. It drooped like always, even pins could not help, but that was the least of her concerns. She was in their system, redirecting their derivation. Men stood equipped around her, prepared for the worst. The cavalry stood quiet even through the harsh sirens. Within the group stood Naomi. She was emaciated and caked in mud, but overall still alive. Lila tried code after code. Panic began to settle in as the clock ticked. Technology had taken a stand-still after years of violent warfare. Lila’s computer had nothing but green numbers and keyboard from the late 2010’s with a faulty space bar. Even with that she broke in and altered the origin. Alas, it was too late. Suddenly, the world went black. Lila’s ears rang with vehemence. The smell of lead filled her nose. Paralyzed. She was terrified and began to cry. Her voice was hoarse as she bellowed out for her only friend “Nini! Nini!” There was nothing but silence. Fear struck Lila when she sensed something coming closer to her. She prayed that it wasn’t the enemy, but only fate could decide. (193 words)

Faiza's mane is not naturally that short. Curly, yes, that's natural, but there isn't anything she hates more than having long, lanky locks of curls hanging on her neck. "You can't be taken seriously with that kind of hair", she said about her previously long mane and tail. "It's just not practical." Faiza finds that having a bit of a raggedy, short mane gives her a "devilish" look. "I look smashing, like I could rob a bank and look stylish at the same time." She always says things like this. (90 words)

How do they feel about their appearance?:

"Bold is an understatement, hun. I could conquer the world with this 'do." Faiza has been much more confident in herself since her mane was trimmed. She likes to think of it as "letting go of my dreadfully boring attitude along with those dreadfully distasteful locks." I think the short hair, resembling more of a boyish cut, makes her able to command attention from both sexes now. She used to be quite sheepish around other mares, but now has the outgoing personality to match her hairstyle. (86 words)

One Quirk:

Let's put it this way: Faiza is plenty quirky, but one quirk that's immediately noticeable is her droopy left ear. She insists it's not droopy, but it does flop ever so slightly lower than her other ear. Not a behavioral quirk as such, but it definitely shows her personality - a little lopsided, but with it's heart in the right place.

Is their mane/tail naturally that short or cut and why: Angelina was born with a short mane. In fact all her family, so far, have been born with short manes, on her dam's side. Her dam has a short and straight mane, however her sire has long wavy mane that reaches to his shoulders. However, Angelina's mane was short but not as short as it is now. Nope, it was slightly longer but while Angelina was relaxing in a secret part of the stable's land called the Hidden Creek with Firework, the little tortoiseshell she cat, she forgot about the fact that she was booked to be ridden by the stable owner's younger cousin and not wanting the stable owner to come look for her and find the Hidden Creek. She set off at a gallop and as she ran through brambles her mane was snagged and cut.

One Quirk: Angelina's favourite activity is daydreaming. But after that she loves to swim. She could swim and swim and swim, forever if she could. This is the only time she's ever competitive. When she swims her quiet and shy nature disappears and she becomes a very determined mare.

One Extra: Angelina's favourite location is a small lake by the mountains in which her stables are situated. She loves to run around, admire the flowers and animals that live their, daydream and go swimming. The lake is named Hidden Creak as only a few of the residents in the area know of it's existence. Those who do know where it is believe it to be a beautiful paradise, especially in the summer months as the plants blossom and the lake is brillant to cool off in. It has beautiful sparkling blue water with a gorgeously old a mysterious weeping willow tree and grass of a beautiful luxurious green. It's as if it's out of a fairy tail. This is why Angelina adores it so much. Not only that but it's secluded and peaceful, so Angelina can relax and daydream to her hearts content.
