It's a mixture of English and Japanese, probably having routes to other languages in distant times. A few nicknames for her are 'Lirium', 'Del', or 'Aam', but Delirium prefers being called her full name.
Delirium itself, means an acutely disturbed state of mind characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence, occurring in intoxication, fever, and other disorders, however, another meaning for it is that of wild excitement or ecstasy, which is the definition Delirium's name leans in to. She is a pure bundle of joy, and her name does just that.
I also chose the middle name for her to be Aa because, it means a kind of volcanic lava that forms jagged masses with a light frothy texture. I liked the idea that it was such a juxtaposing word - jagged, but frothy and light - and I instantly linked this to Delirium. Due to her steam grate and unusual eye colour, she may come across to someone as one not to be approached, however, get to know her and you'll just discover that she is a very kind, 'light' and 'frothy' soul. Her fur also matches this description due to its softness.
Finally, the surname. Mariko, of Japanese origin, heralds several different meanings that merge into one. For starters, the (ma) means "real, true", which I feel emphasises how Delirium isn't afraid to show people who she is even with her calm and gentle nature. I also feel that it makes her name shine with more meaning - and allude to her purity and kindness. This is also reflected in her eye colours - with white/silvery colours having connotations of purity and innocence. The (ri) means "village", which could be symbolic of her living in a village, or just generally coming from there. Finally, my favourite, (ko), with the meaning of "child", exactly what she is, even at a tender age of 16. A beautiful child that deserves all the love and purity in the world.____________________________________________________________________________________________________Personality, Tendencies and Moregif that fits personality
Delirium is a very kind, calm and slightly reserved character. She is a little shy, but she usually gets over that quite quickly - in fact, she's been working on overcoming her shyness so she can meet more cats and other creatures. She loves looking out for others and being relied on, and if anyone is ever threatened, she will instantly stand up for them and fight with words until the offender realises their mistake. Having a gift with words, she can captivate audiences, which is usually how she helps others who are being bullied. She also has a beautiful singing voice, and likes to wander over mountains and forests singing softly.
In social situations, she feels a bit claustrophobic; she likes having her space in the way that she likes having a personal space bubble that is reserved for her and her daydreams - another thing she enjoys doing. Daydreaming is her passion, and whilst singing she will often come up with gloriously spun stories that entice even the most bored of people. Her calmness has often been used to her advantage in situations - mainly being able to deal with others whilst remaining tranquil when they are yelling their head off is another 'talent' of hers.
She is a very affectionate character, favouring to spend her time nurturing flowers and forest creatures. One of her favourite hobbies is collecting sea shells when she spends time down by the sea. Her favourite colour of seashells are a lightish, peachy-pink colour, and she also loves sea urchin skeleton shells, often using them to store little plants and such. She is quite a solitary creature, but she is happy the way she is and loneliness is not a bother that ever dares rest on her shoulders. Her fascination with seashells probably stems from the fur colour of hers - though seashells often entail soft, pale colours much like her own image, she is always surprised when she comes across a shell that is a brilliant blue or some sort of verdant - maybe even a black - but cherishes them with all of her heart. On occasion, she leaves them as little gifts and souvenirs outside of people's homes, and hides until they come out. She likes to watch the look of joy and amazement cross their features as they fondle the small gift.
Her favourite season is around autumn - or just when the summer heart elongates into the cool, sharp scent of autumn approaching. The sea is always alive and roaring in this season, and with the wind blowing through her fur as her gaze stretches across the horizon and the cries of gulls fill her ears, she thinks it's perfect. Halloween she has little care for - but when youngsters do arrive asking for her/her companion (owner) for sweets, she brings in some of her lesser-liked collection items; driftwood, little stones, seashells, anything of that sort to give to them. As she claims "Something physical, an object, gives a much greater impact than that of a sweet which will be gone in seconds. It also has a new meaning, a new memory, for them to share as they thrive."
She can act quite wise, and is an observant and altruistic character who enjoys spending evenings poring over books or resorting her collection; she likes to either have them contrasting each other, or in colour/shape order, marvelling at the sights it gives every time she returns from an outing.____________________________________________________________________________________________________History, BackgroundDelirium was discovered curled in a little rabbit warren not far from the sea, right under a palm tree. When she was found, she was still a youngster, and being found by an unknown creature scared her some. Thankfully, she was enticed with some pomegranate and was taken home to be nursed and warmed up. Her state back then doesn't match the beauty she heralds now - her steam grate had been broken, and her fur was in tufts, as if someone had thrown rocks and scratched her. She was fitted with a new grate and cleaned - albeit carefully - which resulted in her gaining back trust and confidence of humans and other creatures. She's also learned to stand up for herself a lot more than previously.
Growing up was a little weird for Delirium. The other cats were all different and didn't like her - whether it was her underlying metallic scent or not, she wouldn't ever know. She was still a reserved and shy character back then, so she didn't mind too much and would go exploring or following trails of bees into woods and flower beds.____________________________________________________________________________________________________Quirks, Interests & More¬She loves classical music, and finds it really relaxing. Her favourite music is by John Murphy, named 'Adagio'.
¬She is prone to humming when bored - in particular, humming 'Girls Like Girls'
¬She suffers from very mild anxiety and mild claustrophobia - she doesn't like tight spaces, as these result in a panic attack, and to keep her anxiety in check, she often has to do breathing exercises. Excluding these, she is very well composed.
¬She is very interested in fantasy and would spend whole days reading about werewolves or fairies or other creatures should it rain.
¬Delerium does not have a fear of anything per se, but she would rather not meet a shark face to face - this is fine though, considering that with her electricity, she can't swim anyway.
¬She has an allergy to oranges, so they tend to be the fruit she avoids. However, she has a deep, profound love for pomegranate, and often eats that along with some lemonade when reading.____________________________________________________________________________________________________A HaikuShe sits amidst the breeze
