" the frog pond "
Hawke, Tulio, Vlademar, Rohan and Cuervo were all sitting around the dinning room table, bored out of their minds. Nothing could explain the emptiness and boredom they felt. They all sat, pushing peas around a plate with their forks. Suddenly, Hawke jolted up and yelled, " Hey guys, this day had been ULTRA BORING. our lives are WASTING AWAY! " he exclaimed. He then, stood up, pushed in his chair, and loudly opened the back door. " C'mon, guys, why don't we go out and have an adventure? " He asked his siblings. He then motioned his head towards the door, and slipped out. Rohan asked nervously, " Won't dad and daddy get worried about us?.. " Cuervo shrugged, and soon followed behind Hawke. One after another, they all decided to just follow Hawke. They were bored anyways, what could go wrong? Hawke was bouncing happily outside, looking back at his siblings happily. " Follow me! " he said, as he hopped towards a brush-like area. They all called to him, " Wait up! You're going too fast! Where are we even going? " . Hawke called back " You'll find out when we get there! ". After about a good 8 minutes of walking, or running, in Hawke's case, Hawke finally came to a stop abruptly. He waited for his siblings to catch up, and once they all did, he whispered, " shhhh, be quiet now. Follow me, carefully. Make sure not to disturb anything, got it? " He lifted up a leafy branch, and as he did, a large, secluded and cleared area was revealed, and a large, round pond was shown. Hawke tip-toed carefully around the area, and then whispered to his siblings, " watch this. stay quiet, though. " Hawke scavenged around for a good, heavy rock, and then when he was satisfied with one he scooped it up, waddled over to the edge of the pond, and plopped it in. It made a loud " Kerplunk " sound. After seconds, the pond seemed to explode noisily. About 17 bullfrogs screamed loudly and hopped out of the pond, scattering everywhere. Valdemar seemed pleased, Rohan stood behind Cuervo, Cuervo was astonish and Tulio sat with wide eyes. Hawke was frantically running around to catch one, laughing loudly. Finally, he scooped one up, and waddled over to his group of siblings. " what'd ya think? " He said, smiling proudly. He seemed quite pleased with himself. " Anyhow, they all stared at Hawke. Valdemar reached out to touch it, and it squeaked loudly. The frog was unhappy, to say the least. He began kicking and squirming violently in Hawke's hands. He giggled, and so did the rest of his siblings. The frog squeaked, and slipped out of Hawke's hands. He called, " Hey, where do you think you're going? " and chased after the frog, which slipped back into the pond. Hawke said to his siblings, " come on guys, don't be party poopers! join in! " He then continued to run around hoping to catch another frog. Cuervo slowly stepped towards Hawke, and then began to run around trying to help him. The rest stared at each other awkwardly, and then Tulio shrugged and went off to find wild daisies to make tiny frog flower crowns with. Valdemar began to toss rocks into the pond in hope of bringing more out, and successfully made around 22 more frogs leap out, screaming and croaking unhappily. After about an hour or two, They heard the calls of Dave and Miguel from down the trail, looked each other in the eyes, and frantically started questioning Hawke about how they were going to get out of trouble. " Hawke, this is all your fault! It was your dumb idea! " Called Valdemar. " Me? you guys were the ones who followed me! you didn't have to! " He said. Rohan mumbled, " see, I told you guys that they were going to catch us.. now what?.. " Tulio went around in a circle, gently placing a flower crown on each of them. They all calmed down, and Cuervo flashed a quick thumbs up at Tulio, as if to applaud his idea. Hawke then said, " guys, don't you worry. Daddy-o and Dad-bot will understand. " As their calls got closer, Hawke finally decided to step out of the clearing. He called to them, " Daddy-o! Dad-bot! we're here! don't worry! " They soon rushed up the path, and Miguel sighed deeply. " You should have let us know you were leaving! We were worried sick! " Hawke nodded sadly. " I know, I'm sorry, dad. I won't do it again. " Dave exchanged a glance with Miguel, and then he said " Miguel, now that we know they're safe, why don't we have some fun?.. " He smirked a bit. Miguel chuckled, and then closed his eyes. " Why not? " he replied. They all went back into the pond area, and Hawke demonstrated how it was done. He picked up a rock, kerplunked it in the pond, watched the frogs fly out, and caught one for his dads. He smiled proudly, once again. All of his siblings smiled, and they were all relieved that they weren't mad. Hawke whispered to his siblings, " See, I told ya we weren't gonna get in trouble! ". For the rest of the afternoon, the whole family enjoyed a frog-filled fun day. It sure was better then pushing peas around their plates.
" The Cake Factory "
Hawke was humming quietly as he happily trotted down the stairs. He saw Cuervo, Tulio and Rohan doodling on paper in the living room, and Hawke stood in the hall, kinda just spaced out, thinking for a minute. He then suddenly snapped back into it and announced to his siblings, specifically directed at Cuervo, " Alrighty! I've got an idea. " He said. Rohan sighed quietly, and continued to color with his head down. Hawke began to ramble a little bit, " We need to make money. I think that it would do us some good to buy a popcorn machine, ooh! or a new TV. So I have a plan. Cuervo, you and I start a cake factory! Rohan, you can help too if ya want. Since Cuervo's cakes are like a slice of heaven, I figured other kid beans would like a taste, too. We could make a fortune.. " He giggled. He then slid on the hardwood floor over to Cuervo and said softly, " C'mon, what harm could it do? you're a cake mastermind! Maybe this would get you recognition in the community, to help you reach your goal of being a cake master.. Y'know, this would be good for you, too. " He said, with a gleam in his eyes. Cuervo looked into Hawke's eyes. " Really? Do you think that could really happen?.. " He questioned. " Of course I do! would I lie to my twin brother?.. " He said, obviously trying to take advantage of the naive bean. " Really? Well then.. " He paused for a moment. " I guess i'll help.. " He finally decided after a few moments of silence. " Great! " Hawked exclaimed excitedly. He then beckoned Cuervo to follow him to his room. They went up the stairs, Hawke holding Cuervo's hand and sort of dragging him up the stairs. Then he pushed him into his room, and shut the door. " alright, here's the plan. I've always wanted to say that.. " He giggled. He pulled out a paper with a lot of doodles and sketches on it. It showed a large, outdoor setting, with many tables and chairs, and A sort of " cash register " area. Cuervo studied the paper for a bit. Then he finally got it. They were to make an outdoor restaurant. A sort of a cake factory. Cuervo nodded, while Hawke rambled on about how things would work, and how they'd make a lot of money. He also suggested making the rest of the siblings work here too. Hawke then said, " I've already got all the stuff ready, too. We'll use these pillows for seats, and cardboard boxes covered up with blankets as tables, and we'd have to make cake indoors and smuggl- er- bring it outside for the beans to order from. I've already made a Menu, too. " He handed Cuervo a menu, and then revealed a bunch of copies and extras behind him. He then nodded, and said, " lets get started! " Cuervo nodded and said, " I'll go get my baking tools! You go clean up the kitchen. " he then rushed down the stairs, excitedly bouncing towards the kitchen. When Hawke got to the kitchen, he found Cuervo already mixing a batch of cake big enough to feed every bean on the planet. He then said, " Alright Cuervo! I'll start mixing some chocolate creme cake, while you finish up the Vanilla butterscotch. " They then spent the next 3 hours mixing, baking decorating, repeating, and making a huge mess. By the time they were done, it looked like a doughy cake bomb had struck the kitchen. The ran outside, and placed the cakes on a larger cardboard box table. They began to drag the supplies downstairs from Hawke's room into the driveway, and setting up the restaurant. soon, it was all set up according to plan. Lastly, they had made some flyers to spread around town to get some business stirring. around 40 minutes after they set up the flyers, about 6 or 7 kids came to check it out. They were delighted. Cuervo was slicing up the cakes like no tomorrow, and Hawke was seating them and taking orders. He took the pleasure of collecting the money, and then shoving it in his pouch and giving a satisfied smile every now and then. By the time the day was over, there had been over 26 beans there, and business was going well. All of the buzz of this outdoor cake factory was good for Cuervo, and his career as a cake master should be successful. When another few customers arrived, a loud crack struck through the area. Everyone was silent. Suddenly, rain began pouring and pounding down on them, and the cakes had been ruined. The cardboard tables got soggy, and all of the beans were soaked. Angry bean kids rushed out of the place like scurrying mice, and Cuervo and Hawke were left drenched, watching them go sadly. The decided to just take a few things inside, and then they were very disappointed for the rest of the afternoon. There was no telling that rain would strike. Cuervo uncovered a few things to put away, and Hawke pulled a stack of money out of his pouch. He counted it, and it least it was dry. " 142 " he announced. He was expecting to make a lot less in one day! They both nodded approvingly, and agreed they would split it. Cuervo then uncovered a big cake, which was Vanilla Bean cake. Hawke's favorite. He gasped, and said, " Cuervo! You're the best. " They both sat and enjoyed a cake together, and all seemed fine. The rain hadn't ruined the say at all! if anything it brought the two brothers closer
"Hawke!!.... HAWKEEEEE!!" Valdemar called out in a desperate attempt to catch his brother's attention. "Where are you heading off to? The woods are a long shot from home, and you know what they say..." He grinned calmly,"Those who go in... Never come out!"
Hawke quietly turned his attention to Valdemar as he began to take his first steps into the dark, dreary woods that seemed to lack life itself.
"Which is why I'm going to be the first to come out!" Hawke decided to reply playfully after thinking carefully as to what to reply, as he then trotted off into the woods. Valdemar sighed, knowing that his creepy made-up saying was ineffective. Valdemar knew the woods possibly better than anyone else in the family, and it pleased him to know that many beans believed his made-up saying - all but Hawke.
Hawke chuckled monotonously as he continued down the damp dirt path - "Surely", he thought,"These are just woods. If this were a jungle, I'd understand, but these are woods." He confidently reminded himself as the scenery around him started to become almost distorted - twisted, even. The trees looked like death itself - Coal-colored bark, wilted, bone-thin branches, and knife-like thorns protruding from the tangled vines that traveled for what seemed like miles throughout the cold-dead ground. Hawke swiftly took notice of the change of scene - from a green, dewy lawn lined with trees full of vitality to a dark, twisted wood full of scattered 'scary' trees and deadly-looking bushes. With an uneasy catch of breath and a flick of his tail, Hawke turned around, only to see that the path he once took seemed to have disappeared from existence. But something caught his eye. Something quite different - something that for once, looked more fascinating than threatening. On a heart's impulse, Hawke decided that if he was going to get back home, he would capture this odd something as a prize to bring back home proudly - an odd, blue glowing sphere that seemed to illuminate the darkness. Regaining his confidence, Hawke crouched silently. The orb appeared to levitate in its place, when suddenly-
"OOF!!" Hawke came crashing down on the cold damp ground. The orb was floating closely by his nose in a manner that seemed to mock him. Embarrassed though he knew nobody saw his failure at catching this orb, Hawke resorted to following it instead of catching it if it wouldn't stay still. As he regained his balance and hopped up onto his feet again, the orb zipped past him - right into the darkness that lie ahead. Uncertain as to what would happen next, Hawke darted down the path - soon to be surprised that it wasn't just one orb, but 2 - no, 3 - 4 - 5!
There were five glowing orbs floating in the open, right in front of Hawke as he eyed the orbs in awe. It was then that Hawke noticed something significantly different - there were bushes ...With leaves! And they seemed quite numerous in this part!... But something wasn't quite right. Hawke's ears perked up, his fur began to bristle in fright, and he clenched his paws together as the bushes began to shake abrubtly. BAM!
Voldemar was right over Hawke, laughing in a free-spirited tone. Hawke, looking up at Voldemar who was now laughing at Hawke's surprised expression started to brighten up and laugh along.
"You really started to think these woods would eat you alive, didn't you!" Voldemar continued laughing as Hawke got up on his feet again.
"I knew it all along that the woods wouldn't eat me alive, creeper-peeper!" Hawke replied, laughing at himself for the fact that he let himself get frightened so easily.
"But enough of these woods, let's go home. Dad's preparing a delicious meal tonight!" Valdemar said, now dragging Hawke along as the light of day started to get brighter.
"What were those glowy blue floating things, though...?" Hawke asked Valdemar as he tilted his head - perplexed at the entire adventure he went through.
"Those...? Those... Those are spirits! Nobody knows where or how they came to be, but they're said to guard the woods against bad creatures - though they're said to only show themselves in that form to pure-hearted creatures." Valdemar replied as he opened the door to the house.
no one knows, it could just be another one of his tales, but who knows?..
