In kestrel's tribe, each member of age has to be given a certain color, and pattern by their shaman, which is always the eldest women in the tribe. Each color has it's meaning, labeling the characteristic traits of individual tribe members. His pattern also symbolizes memory and agility, deeming him exceptionally sneaky in the eyes of his fellow tribe members. In his tribe, red means brave, caring, and strong, but Kestrel specifically shows more of the 'caring and strong' part. His shaman told him, word for word, 'Kestrel, I have watched you, waiting for your coming-of-age day. I am proud of you for making it all this way, and therefore you have earned your paint. The color red symbolizes passion and brutality. It is up to you to decide whether you will use this for good, or for evil." Those words ingrained into Kestrel's soul, something he will never forget. In his tribe, it is customary for all plumies of age to remember their ceremony, and to display their colors with pride. It is a major dishonor to cover up, remove, or re-color the paint. Each shape, color, and pattern is also customary to remember, as they usually paint it in a sacred cave. If an individual can't remember, they will be cursed by the shaman.

In Kestrel's tribe, the sun means 'everlasting', often perceived as memory. The shaman has decided that his memory must be very keen.

Many straight lines in his tribe symbolize patience and calmness, but the dots also imply the lack of
complete calmness within. Kestrel has good patience, but in reality is not fully so.

Yet another sun mark (resembling memory), although without the dot in the center it means something slightly different: strength. Kestrel is very strong, aiding to his brutality. I advise you stay away from Kestrel when he reaches his brutal point

This symbolizes agility; in this case, the streaks and dots mean 'fast'. The longest stripe symbolizes leadership. The longer the dots and stripes on a plumie's paint, the higher leadership status they have. His shaman's paint is very elegant and has many long markings. Kestrel doesn't have very many long markings, but as plumies in this tribe get older, the shaman may reconsider and add more markings.

by me

Kestrel is very loyal and dedicated. He'll do anything, no matter the cost, for anyone who's been true to him. He is very forgiving, but sometimes he can hold a grudge that will make you want to disappear. He will use anything against you if he feels the need to. He's quick, keen and adaptive, and always remembers to keep himself on his toes. He never lets his guard down, and is always prepared for the worst. He is quite patient, but like everyone else, he has a limit. His memory is as sharp as a knife, so be prepared, it can come in handy and it can be your worst enemy. He will stop at nothing during a fight, and has even been known to forget what he was fighting about in the first place. He can be very vague at times. Despite all of that, he is very trustworthy, and will guard you and your secrets like a watch dog. Even if you're on his bad side, he'll still be somewhat fair, only if you give him some sense of respect. The code he lives by is, " Respect me, and i'll respect you. " . He is very passionate about certain things, such as hunting, as that is his rank in his tribe. He is proud to call himself 'the lead hunter', which makes him feel important. He loves rushes of adrenaline, and spends his free time practicing hunting, running, or anything that'll get his blood pumping. He is named Kestrel for his intelligence, speed, and sense of memory, resembling the falcon namesake he was given. Despite his harsh exterior, he is quite soft on the inside, and truly wants to cuddle at the end of the day. Kestrel loves life as it is, and would to anything
in his power to protect the lives of others.

Sometimes, Kestrel can go completely unnoticed, which is actually quite scary, as he's always trying to get people to notice him. He prefers to hunt alone, so this trait is also a helpful skill in that department. He's mastered the art of silence, and can easily camouflage with rock rocks due to his pelt color. Some even feel disturbed by his stealth, and are always relieved when they know where he is.

Kestrel also uses this trait for hunting, and it comes in handy when showing who's boss or engaging in friendly competitions. Kestrel can easily slip through small spaces, and he's quite flexible. He often challenges others to race, knowing he'll win.

Kestrel shows no mercy to anyone who has betrayed him, his friends or loved ones, or even anyone in his tribe. He will taunt them to no end, often with witty comebacks and rude glares to follow. He'll only back off if you apologize to him, even then he'll still hold a grudge.

Kestrel's memory is very sharp, and fellow tribe members often call him the " elephant hunter, " but they mean it in a good way. Kestrel can remember things from his childhood, explaining them as if they were yesterday, and never forgetting to do a task or something someone has asked him. He is exceptional at " memory games ", and often uses memory to his advantages in hunting also.

Despite his stubborn and rude appearance, Kestrel really does care and is very compassionate about his family, tribe, hunting and other small things, such as collecting feathers, playing with the wisps, and training. Once he's set his mind to something, you can't stop him.

Kestrel enjoys Krieg's company, as he's quite a lot like Kestrel when he was a child. Krieg is very mischievous, yet quite curious and misunderstood, very much like Kestrel. Krieg and Kestrel do enjoy playing games with each other, and often teasing or playfully fighting with each other. Kestrel likes Krieg because when Kestrel has Krieg as company, he feels like a child once again. He also enjoys Krieg because he can get a good laugh out of him, and his blunt attitude makes Kestrel laugh a bit too. Despite having small arguments with Krieg, Kestrel loves his company.

Kestrel finds Bahiti a bit odd, but he enjoys listening to her stories. Bahiti's loud yet warming personality startled Kestrel at first, as usually everyone he knows is quiet and quite shy, but Bahiti was nothing like them. Kestrel met Bahiti while she was out on an adventure, and luckily for the two they bumped into each other. Kestrel was out on a hunting patrol, and Bahiti was out on an adventure. Of course, Kestrel was quite afraid of her at first, as she was very interested in him and his paint, so he ended up telling her about his tribe, and soon befriended her. Kestrel does trust Bahiti, and has told her a few secrets and special things about his tribe, such as the wisps. Kestrel does enjoy Bahiti's company, yet he still finds her a bit odd.

Kestrel's tribe lacks a name, but he calls it 'nyumbani', meaning 'home' in his native language. In this tribe, there are many rituals and beliefs, all of which are special to Kestrel. In this tribe, the eldest woman plumie is the leader, always, which then they call her " the shaman. " She is responsible for giving plumies their tribal paint, rankings, and to keep the tribe in order. Everyone in their tribe has certain colors, markings and patterns to represent who they are as a person. In this case, red means brutality and passion, specifically chosen by the shaman for Kestrel. When each plumie comes of age, they are required to be given paint by their shaman in a special ceremony. each plumie is given special markings, paint color and a speech by their shaman, which it is customary for each plumie to remember their ceremony. After the ceremony ends, they are required to paint their new pattern in a sacred cave, where all of the plumies ever to be in the tribe have painted their designs. If they were to be ruined or destroyed by any plumie, they would be kicked out and cursed by their shaman, for them to never return. The shaman gives each plumie a ranking, and in this case Kestrel is places at lead hunter, and honor to have, although his markings signify not much leader power, he still strives to make up for it. This tribe also believes in wasting nothing, so they use everything they take, and remember to give back to the earth, planting trees or picking up trash left by other plumies. Keep in mind, they do live in modern time, and they are disgusted when people think that they have no concept of modern technology or devices which they know of and use often. Lastly, each plumie is expected to live up to their title, never stepping out of bounds, or betraying their tribe. If they were to, they would immediately be kicked out. This tribe believes in honor and dignity, and so far they live up to their beliefs.

Kestrel isn't one to believe in many things but Will-o-wisps are truly a reality to him. Will-o-wisps are considered to bring good luck and guidance to anyone who is lucky enough to see them, and Kestrel is one of the lucky few. Over the time that he and he tribe had existed, there have only been about 3 plumies who have caught sight of them, Kestrel included. As a child, he was playing outside of his camp and fooling around, like any pup should be. He'd been too absent minded and playful to even realize what was going on around him, so he wandered far away from the camp. This was unfortunate for most pups, but this time it was a good thing. Kestrel bounced along, giggling and humming as he went. Suddenly, a blue flicker flashed across the forest floor, and Kestrel snapped out of his " childish daze ". A faint whipsy noise began to grow louder behind Kestrel, so he whipped around. Nothing was there. Kestrel began to panic, as he soon realized his camp was nowhere in sight. He didn't remember which was was where he came, so he sat and began to whimper slightly. He got back up, and continued to slowly walk deeper into the woods, scared and nervous. Kestrel wasn't usually a foolish pup, but that day didn't seem to be so lucky at first. Then, the blue flicker darted across the forest floor again. The whispy noise followed behind it, and a faint hum began to fill the forest. Kestrel panicked, and his eyes widened. A blue, jellyfish-like creature floated before him. It didn't have a face, mouth or eyes, just a floating blue dot. He whispered to himself, "...'Could it be...? Is this what they told me about?'" He cocked his head to the side, and whispered again, " This.. this is a will-o-wisp..? " The wisp began to float towards Kestrel, and he began to feel nervous again. The wisp flew over him, and stood still, as if it were waiting for him to follow it. As if it were magic, more and more began to fill in behind the first one, making a line of sorts. He whispered again, " do they want me to follow them?.. " Then, he proceeded to trot towards the wisps. As put out his paw to touch one, and it disappeared. He gasped, took a step back, and the wisp reappeared again. He sighed, and walked forwards, making the wisps vanish as he walked forward. The humming noise was quite soothing after a while, and he felt calm. After walking for a bit, he'd reached the camp again. He gasped, and looked behind him. The wisps were gone. The faint whispy noise once filled the air again, and a single wisp floated next to him. He touched it, and it disappeared. That was Kestrel's first encounter with the wisps, but it was not the last. Regularly Kestrel goes to that part of the woods as an adult now, and sits and plays with the wisps, taking notes and studying them, to share with his tribe members. He feels a connection to the wisps, as if he were meant to wander off that day.

As a pup, Kestrel had a very simple and easy life at first, frolicking and playing with no worries or regrets. His parents were there for his childhood, teaching him to way of the tribe, and showing him the way as he grew. He did have quite a bit of an attitude, as he was quite a bold pup, saying what he pleased. He grew up, oblivious to danger and any serious problems within the tribe, and this was not a good thing, as he somewhat grew up not knowing about the real dangers of the world. His parents tried to conceal him from any harm, danger or bad thoughts, which often lead to him being quite naive and oblivious. In fact, he'd not even learned about life itself, the most valuable thing on the planet. One fateful evening, there was a large and abnormal thunderstorm, shaking up the camp and the plumies within. Kestrel thought nothing of it, and continued to chat away to the other children in the tribe. A large crack of lightning streaked across the sky, and a large boom followed behind it. Everyone else in the camp was shaken up, nervous and startled, but Kestrel seemed to be the " bravest " in the camp. Suddenly, the shaman called for a meeting, and she announced everyone come to the shaman's den. All plumies with all different sorts of paint, markings and expressions entered the den, nervous and scared. The shaman announced, " We have one patrol still out in the forest, does anyone know who's not here? ". Kestrel turned his head, still pretty laid back, but panicked slightly. He noticed all of the other plumies bumbling around, checking for others to be present or not. Finally, one plumie called " Where are Kestrel's parents? ". Everyone began to shake their heads, and Kestrel began to worry. This was the first time he'd felt this feeling, and he didn't like it one bit. He paused, and yelled, " Where are my parents? ". The shaman finally hesitated, and said, " I'm sorry, dear Kestrel, i'm afraid they've been caught in the storm. Let's hope for the best and hope they're okay. " she said calmly. Kestrel was infuriated, how could she be so calm if members of her tribe are in danger? " No! I won't wait! " He hollered as he flew out the door, and no one bothered to go and get him. He was filled with rage, and he stomped out of the camp, into the woods, pouring rain. His pelt was matted and wet, and it was very uncomfortable. He stopped, and a crack of lightning again beamed down onto a tree, setting it on fire, right in front of his eyes. He shrieked, now feeling more fear than he'd ever experienced in his short life. He began to yell, " Mom, dad! help me! " and he completely abandoned his mission. He began to race back to the camp. Another boom of thunder erupted in the air, and he began to run faster and faster, more determined to get back to the camp. "
this was a bad idea. the worst i've ever had. " he thought to himself. He could feel he wasn't too far away from the camp now, so he slowed down a bit. Another crack of lightning struck this time, setting another tree on fire, this time is fell down, right in front of Kestrel. He screamed, and he felt a few ember flakes sizzle out on his pelt. There was no way around, and there was no hope now. He couldn't jump over it, his legs were too short! He just sat down, and began to cry. He'd never really cried like this before, as he was often too stubborn to show how he felt. suddenly, he felt himself lift off of the ground, above the burning tree, and through the forest, towards the camp. Kestrel gasped, and looked up to see his father carrying him through the forest, and his mother limping behind him. They made it to the camp, and his mother collapsed as soon as she reached the camp. Tears welled in Kestrel's eyes, and his mother began to weep too. " I thought i'd never see you again " she said, her eyes heavy with tears. Her pelt was stained with soot and ember, and he could feel her weakened aura, and felt sympathy for the first time in his life. His father lay down next to her, and began to nuzzle her, in fear of losing her. This had definitely been the most stressful night for Kestrel, and he'd never want it to happen to anyone. His mother recovered, and he was very lucky for them to have seen him. Kestrel would do anything for them, and would never give them up.

Kestrel has a deep love with painting, so in his spare time or when he's out hunting, he'll gather pretty or large feathers and leaves, berries and twigs to make his own paint, paintbrushes and canvases. He crushes berries to make paint, which he re-uses and enjoys the process of crushing the berries, he carves paintbrushes out of twigs, and adds fur to the tip to make it a true paintbrush, and he uses the feathers and leaves as his canvases. He takes pride in his paintings, and hangs them up in his den, making sure to display each one carefully. Each painting has significant meaning to him, such as a time in his life or something he enjoys.
