10. Monsta X

The first time she saw him, it was not true love at first sight... She hadn't wanted to go into her stall and had given Sen the look. Sen had gotten an annoyed look on her face before sighing and giving up, leaving Valentina in the pasture. For a few moments, there was only silence (and the occasion bark from Jack). And then Valentina heard a truck. She had run to get into position, setting herself next to the fence close to the road near the woods. The truck came around the corner, not particularly as fast as she would have liked, and Valentina bolted forward, racing against it. She was agitated when, instead of speeding up as many did, it slowed. She stopped her sprint, skidding slightly as the truck pulled into her driveway. Sen greeted the person that got out of the truck warmly enough, but Valentina didn't trust them. And then they had opened the trailer.
The stallion came out in a rear, causing the mysterious guy to stumble back. He seemed pleased about this, and it annoyed Valentina to no end. After all, wasn't that his human? Why was he being so mean to him? She decided that he must be one of those jerk stallions and huffed in annoyance, wondering why he was here. His human coaxed him out of the trailer slowly, and he seemed to enjoy every minute of it. A righteous anger tore through Valentina. And so, not thinking as she usually does when this angry, she backpedaled before shooting forward. He turned to her just as she leapt, soaring over fence. He looked mildly curious, but Valentina ignored that. Instead, with one mighty rear, she had him stumbling and falling on his butt. With one last huff of annoyance, she turned and trotted away, head high, leaving the stallion on the ground and bewildered. Sen and the male human laughed at the sight. That was the first time she saw him.
The second time she saw him, he was being led to her pasture. Their previous meeting unforgotten, Valentina, usually the ever gentle mare, bristled at him. He seemed to notice her mood, and he didn't seem to care. Instead, he trotted up to the fence, examining it as if she weren't there. Valentina marched up and roughly nudged his flank away from the fence, forcing him back a step. She knew he was probably thinking of jumping it as she had, but she wasn't going to allow that. She knew that was the only reason Sen would put this stallion in the same pasture... right? Valentina shook her head and herded the stallion non-to-gently towards the middle of the pasture. He bolted though, and soon they were both sprinting through the pasture. He seemed to be laughing at her. Indignation made her skid to a halt, wondering what she was thinking, chasing after a stallion. A jerk stallion, at that. So with a huff, she turned her flank to him and walked to the edge farthest from him and grazed. She could feel his eyes on her for a moment longer before the sound of galloping.
When she turned, she had time to watch him leap over the fence much the same way she had done. His coat seemed to ripple, and for a moment she though he might fly away. Then he landed and she chided herself for thinking something so ridiculous. She glanced one last time to see him staring, foolishly happy, his beautiful eyes sparkling with laughter. She shook her head like crazy. Where had beautiful come from? She couldn't believe all the stupid things she had done today. The stallion gave her one last look, before walking easily away, seeming to purposefully try to catch everybody's attention. When the male human and Sen noticed, they called after the stallion. But after he was sure they were watching, he flicked is tail and took off into the woods. Valentina found herself being saddled and gave a long-suffering sigh. The next five hours were spent tracking and catching the stallion, who taunted them which glimpses before bolting. By the time they caught the stallion, Valentina couldn't hold back her frustration. He was such a mean stallion. She glared wholeheartedly at the sparkling eyes and found her glare softening before she could stop it. They were led back to the farm, where Valentina was put in her pasture, and the stallion in the on with especially tall fences. That was the second time she saw him.
The third time, it was different. She finally finally had a name to pin on the stallion: Monsta X. She had decided to call him Monsta. Because it was easier to say, not because she liked him. He was put in her pasture again, but this time he whinnied and trotted up to her, prancing circles around her while she ate. She couldn't bring herself to get annoyed with him, so settled for grazing, pretending to ignore him while secretly stealing glances. His coat was shiny, especially in the sun, and it constantly caught her eye. She didn't like him, but as time went by, he seemed to be growing on her. After all, she could relate to wanting to act like a filly every once in a while. It was just that he did it too much. He caught her eye at one point and whinnied again, laughter causing his eyes to sparkle once more. He stopped in front of her and nudged her roughly with his nose before dancing away. She could see the playful look in his eyes, the one that told her he hadn't meant to be mean when he nosed her. So she couldn't help but prance after him, her own eyes, unknowingly, sparkling as well.
They chased each other for hours under the sun, nipping and pushing. And then she led him into a dance. It was fun, prancing about with him, and she hadn't even meant to do so. She nearly stopped as she realized what she was doing, but couldn't bring herself to. It had been such a nice time that she was convinced her couldn't possibly be so bad on the inside. So she continued the dance. They danced around each other and pulled forward and pushed back, moving in synch. When they were done, Valentina was tired and content. The days after that were as if they had known each other for years, playing and laughing together. And she forgot all about his first few days with her.
She didn't know when it happened, but she knew enough about love to recognize it. Her mother had always told her about it. And that was how Valentina realized that she was in love with Monsta. So she avoided him, nerves making it impossible to even look at him anymore. He came into her pasture a couple days after her beginning to avoid him. He was quiet and still as the humans walked away. Then he walked, slowly, oh so slowly, up to her. And he rested his neck against hers, a hug. She shivered, and she could feel his heart, beating in time with hers. That was all that was needed for her to understand what he was telling her. The 'I love you' struck her through, and she returned it with a stutter. When he pulled his head back, instead of the twinkle of playfulness and laughter, there was pure love and adoration. It made her heart stop in her chest, and all she wanted was to return it.
It wasn't love at first sight, but it was a thousand times stronger.
