Alethia Arian Vanguarde.▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾
- Alethia :: Greek for "truth"
- Arian :: suffix (-arian) meaning "person who"
- Vanguarde :: derived from avant-garde, meaning "a position at the forefront of new developments or ideas.
Together, Alethia's full name roughly means "person who strives for truth"▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾
- Thea/Thia :: new friends, family, basically anyone can call her this.
- Leaf :: only very close friends are allowed to call her Leaf, which came from "leth" in her name.▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾

Homosexual Biromantic
"Taste the rainbow, right?"
Alethia's sexual preference and orientation were something that she slowly discovered throughout her teenage years. It wasn't until she was approached by another homosexual female in her teen years that she realized she liked females romantically as well as sexually, too. After awhile of research and a lot of confusion, Alethia finally settled on the terms "homosexual biromantic" as her orientation. Her sexuality is still quite flexible, and could change in the future, but there's nothing wrong with that.▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾

- shy - bubbly - optimistic - creative - expressive - gentle - friendly - aloof - mentally mature -As a child and young adult, Alethia maintained a fairly constant personality, although over the years her mentality matured just like an average child would. However, despite that maturity, she kept a childish and naive interior.
Throughout her childhood until her young adulthood, Alethia was a little shy when it came to starting conversations or speaking to those who intimidated her, which made it difficult for her to make friends early on. Once spoken to and approached, however, she can easily keep up a conversation and make it interesting.
Her creativity allows her to speak about many unique and interesting topics, while keeping it paced and easygoing.
Alethia is one to keep an optimistic and bubbly look to life,
and is often seen with a smile on her face. On the rare times that Alethia is upset for whatever reason, it's very easy to tell. She's not the one to hide her emotions, so when she's sad, everyone knows. However, her expressiveness makes it very fun and pleasing to make her happy, especially when it comes to surprises.
Being rather gentle,
Alethia is known for having a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, as she is generally friendly to those that she meets. She will often give her friends little gifts or surprises out of the kindness of her heart, although that can lead others to take advantage of her. Even though Alethia is very optimistic,
she can be quite aloof at times, which can anger others.
It's not necessarily her fault-- it's just her difficulty in fully applying herself to the situation, no matter the seriousness. ▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾

- reclusive - pessimistic - sarcastic - emotionless - somewhat anti-social - intelligent - superior -
Alethia, in her young adult stage, becomes rather reclusive and pessimistic, especially when dealing with those she doesn't know too well. It takes a lot to get close to Alethia now, and to do so requires a lot of effort and patience, considering she also has a short temper. Despite the changes, she still has that bubbly and childish outlook on life, although it's hidden underneath a cold exterior. On the outside, she often acts like she doesn't care, when in reality she does care. The big change with Alethia in this age is the difference between her outter and inner personalities, although the two share some common characteristics, such as her intelligence and shyness. Even though she still is shy, the manner in which she goes about doing such is different. At this age, she becomes cold and harsh, rather than withdrawn and timid like she previously did. Now, she also acts a lot more emotionless, which leads others to believe she is truly antisocial, when in reality, she's afraid of showing her true colors. From that, she won't speak to others unless spoken to, and when she does, what she says is short and to the point, making her an odd one to speak with. When she talks, she also has the habit of speaking in such a way of making others feel inferior to her. Overall, Alethia's exterior personality is set in such a way that makes her rather unpleasant to be around and to talk to, although with enough time and patience, one can melt away that exterior to reveal a soft and scared interior. ▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾

- A bit more open to new things and ideas
- Happier, although she still has trouble admitting when she's upset
- More outgoing, but still has to be introduced to others before she'll make friends
- Still is very sarcastic, but not in the harsh way

The way she acts and speaks now is quite different from before. Even though she's still quite sarcastic, her expression is lighter and less serious, which lets others know that her intent isn't to harm. That makes it easier for her to make and keep friends, although she still has a hard time starting conversations and approaching others, but that's okay, she'll work on that. Alethia seems happier, too. She does have trouble admitting when she's upset, or revealing when she's very happy, but once you know how to read her, the signs are easy to spot. She's a lot more open to new things and ideas, which leads her to be more confident in both herself and in her ideals. With that, she's putting herself forward more and realizes she doesn't have to be perfect or live up to anyone's expectations, but that all she needs to do is to try her best and do what she feels is right. ▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾

As a child, Alethia is very shy and sweet and basically lives as the perfect child. She does her homework and chores with little trouble, rarely every breaks the rules, and listened to her parents. Her parents gave her the care and support she needed and wanted, and together they lived a nice life as a family. However, there wasn't too much to give her childhood much importance, so when Alethia grew older, there wasn't much she took from it. Alethia stayed quiet and shy, and always made sure to listen to the rules, which sometimes helped and sometimes hurt her. Aside from being slightly afraid of storms, due to a prank when she was a child, Alethia very often dismissed troubles, and kept the mindset that only those who gave up and were lazy had to deal with that. She became rather aloof with her head in the clouds, being naive and thinking the world was a perfect place for those who stuck to the rules and studied hard. She heard many stories of those who worked hard to achieve what they wanted, and in the end they had a perfect life, but little did she know, her challenge wasn't up yet.

Her parents supported her desire of becoming a computer engineer, as she had strong science and math skills, as well as a fascination and love for computers and technology. Turns out, she was good at it, too. She studied hard and eventually got accepted into a good college with a scholarship, and she was happy. Alethia thought that finally, she could have perfection after this. She thought that everything fell into place and the world would be just how she wanted it. Alethia worked hard through her first months of college, still believing her perfect world, and being naive towards reality, especially when it came towards corruption in even the higher ranks of society. To her, intelligence meant perfection, innocence, and ultimate success. She was wrong.

- entered college, started off well
- began to see some corruption, alcohol and drugs everywhere, even in the smart students
- didn't accept it until:
-
- dropped out of college after thinking
- emotionally shocked from sudden reality
- didn't tell parents-- pretended to still be in college
- lived mostly on the streets, stayed in homes for few nights at a time, got food off of leftovers or for cheap
- made attempt to steal but conscious got the better of her
- worked as a "hacker for hire" for a couple months
- very reserved, dark, anti-social

- would pick a couple fights due to her pride, thus giving her a few scars
- generally avoided trouble, was sly and sneaky about things
- distrust for adults grew as many tried to convince her she "had a brighter future than this"
- meets most of her hacking clients at places like a bar, etc, to prevent getting kidnapped or worse
- waits for a client at a rather popular bar, Ahri as her bartender
-- client is late, Ahri notices a young teen girl waiting around and finds that odd, so she sticks a bit close to her to prevent anything from happening
-- After awhile, Ahri begins to talk to Alethia and finds out she's a hacker-for-hire which strikes her interest
-- insert a bunch of fluff here
-- client never shows up, Ahri notices how disappointed Alethia is and asks about it, discovers that she was depending on that job to score her a room
-- Ahri offers her a place to stay for the weekend, especially as it's going to rain quite often soon, and Alethia is hesitant at first, due to past experiences of others taking advantage of her, but finally agrees after it gets late and she's tired.
- stays the night and Ahri has to leave for a bit for her work, which surprises Alethia that Ahri trusts her with her house, Ahri shrugs it off and plays it cool (like usual), and gives Alethia her cell in case of emergencies.
- still doesn't talk much at this point, usually a few nods or simple sentences.
- watches tv or naps for most of the day, takes a shower, notices a storm rolling in and begins to panic due to a fear of storms
- tries to shrug it off and be strong, but after a bit she calls Ahri, paces a lot
- Ahri picks up but Alethia mutters a "nevermind" and hangs up due to pride issues and nervousness
- Ahri comes home quickly after, telling Alethia it's due to the storm, but secretly worried about her.
- hides in the corner of the guest room under a table, shaking, as the storm gets p bad at this point
- Ahri really begins to worry and brings blankets and pillows and makes a mini fort around the two of them
- Ahri sits close to Alethia and asks what's wrong, but in a delicate way as she doesn't know Alethia too well yet, but feels a connection to her as Ahri suffered a similar past (in streets and being a rebel child)
- spills story while tearing up, but refuses to admit that she's sad or hurt, although that much is obvious to the both of them
- ahri stays pretty quiet, and nods and listens
- after alethia finishes her story, ahri pulls out earbuds and plugs it into her phone, and the two listen to soft music together to drown out the sound of the storm and rain
- they fall asleep leaning on each other (hah, classic)▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾

---- fill in stuff here -----
- ends up going back to college after talking things through with the administration board (she's rather bright so it wasn't too difficult, but she still has to prove herself)
- still hasn't told parents yet-- working on pride issue still
- Ahri helps Alethia get a job, although she gets fired at her first one due to being unwilling to step down when a customer challenges her
- stays at Ahri's for a rent, although Ahri is very lenient and flexible with those-- she often helps out with food and clothing, etc.

"I think I understand, now. I remember as a child, my mother would tell me that I would look back, and everything would make sense. I didn't take it seriously then, I didn't take her seriously, either. I don't think I ever took anyone very seriously, not even myself. To me, I was just in my own little world, and I felt that everything that I did would pay off perfectly, just like in a fairy tale. I felt that my struggles and hardships were over once I got into college, that my studies and efforts would pay off and I could life the relaxed life. Oh boy, I was wrong.
For the longest time, I didn't think that anyone smart or rich or powerful could be corrupt. I was naive to the world around me, as there was corruption everywhere in the higher ranks. I didn't see that then-- or rather, I didn't want to. At first, when I entered college, I believed that everyone there did their best and what they could to make it to where they were now. I didn't think it was possible for anyone to cheat their way into college, as the government would stop that, right? I quickly made friends, as there was quite a few study groups to join, and I had a blast, for awhile. Near the end of the first quarter, I began to realize something was off with a few of my friends, notibly my dormmate. They never studied or even did their homework, yet their grades in the class we shared were some of the highest. I thought at first that they were just smart, or maybe even shy about their studying. But weeks began to pass and I realized just how late they were coming back from class. Things were slowly beginning to unravel, yet I didn't want to see it still.
I suppose one day they decided I was trustworthy, or they just got too lazy of trying to keep it hidden any longer, but they came to me, asking for me to join them after class. At first I thought they were going out to get new textbooks, or study in a new way I haven't tried before, as they simply invited me to "do it the easy way". I was eager to find out new ways to study, of course, being the textbook nerd that I was, and accepted their offer. They seemed to be pretty glad, and I was happy that my friends were finally beginning to warm up to me with their studying methods. When I arrived at their meeting place after class, I was shocked to find our professor there. I supposed it was some tutoring session, and I was rather surprised at his generosity. I thanked him for his time, and my friends snickered. After a moment of laughter and my confusion, my dormmate finally explained what was going on. That was the moment that I realized the reality of what was going on, and the moment that reality fell on me at once.
Bribery is a corrupt method that I shall never stoop to, but that was one that my friends were low enough to fall for. I shall not name in which method they were bribing him-- blackmail, money, goods, etc-- that's entirely up to your imagination. But that moment in time crushed me. I don't think it was entirely that situation itself, but the fact that I was forcing myself to deny the corrupt reality for so long was the crushing blow. For weeks my eyes could only see the true corruption of the world around me, things that I know I had seen previously, but had not accepted. Drugs, alcohol, bribery, greed. Those were only few of the things that led me to surround myself in isolation soon after. After a few days of trying to perform at my best, I crashed. I locked myself in my room and refused to leave, not even when my friends came back to apologize for what they did. I lied to them, telling them that it wasn't their fault-- which, it wasn't, not entirely. It was no one's fault but my own naivity. How could I let them go on believing it was them?

Soon after, I dropped out of college, left everything that I once knew to be my dream. I had no idea, anymore, what I wanted or what I needed. I was simply a lost soul that had no idea what to do anymore. Even though I was crushed, I knew I couldn't tell my parents what had happened, or even that I left. It wasn't that they wouldn't understand, or that i'd be punished, but I knew that deep down they would be sad or disappointed, and I could not live with that. I needed them to still be proud of me, to still love and care for me, and I wasn't going to ruin that image they had of me, not yet. I took the same amount of money from my savings each month, just the money needed for food and basics, although I had no home or house to live in. I had more than enough to get an apartment, but that would cause suspicion. Instead, I lived inside my truck, only spending money when I needed to. I still wrote to them, too, using the college's stationary. I'm sure they suspected something was off, but they didn't ask, and for that, I'm glad.▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾▴▾
