Name: Antha (An-Thuh) Ravenne (Ra-Veen)
Meaning: Watchful Lioness in Gwrey
Gender: Female
How did they become an Sentinel Savant?:
Antha was always the observant one. She kept a good, close eye on those that meant much to her. Antha was commonly known as the watchful child and as she grew she became a very diligent gaurd. Her life as a guard was well rewarded when her years of careful planning and keeping her family and pack alive were noticed by the pack leader. For many years the lives of those she cared about were under her watchful eye, and without hesitation she would jump between those she loved and danger if it meant their eyes would see the next sunrise.

---Come back to us, child of Earthen heart.

---From the first time her eyes fluttered open to gaze upon the Dawn Dunian pack she had been born into, great chains had been bound to her spirit in the form of a name: Nitara. Her parents wished for her to form a strong connection to the Earth, the ground, the soil under their paws. And for a while, it seemed as if she would keep her eyes cast down upon the dirt with a keen sense that, one day, her magic would grow strong enough to harness this vast terrain. Maybe she could have, if she was stronger.

---As the other pups flourished and grew, manipulating the Earth around them into hills, towers, and small storms of dust, she struggled to move a pawful of dirt an inch forward. Ultimately, she became an observer; rather than practice her magic with her peers and dream of future apprenticeship, she was left to watch all other Dunians develop while the strength of her own powers remained at a standstill. But watching her peers brought about nothing but heartache, and as soon as she became old enough to traverse the Dawn territory on her own, Nitara began sneaking out when the first rays of sunlight peered over the hills to watch the Motians and the Majians hunt. Their ways fascinated her, their red and blue gems glistening from between locks of multicolored fur as they danced in battle through the early morning air. She wished to tread outside of the shadows, to join them in their use of fire and water amidst the adrenaline of the hunt. She could feel that adrenaline, felt it rush up from the bottom of her paws to the tips of her ears. If only she had realized that this rush within her started at the ground.

---The young pup made her way back into camp one day before the hunters had returned, treading on eager paws towards a group of the oldest Dunians who were then spread out on old bones in the sunlight. Could it be she had found her purpose? Was she not meant to wield the Earth? Her eyes were once more turned down; rather than looking in longing at the soil, they stared in shame at the her green gems. Casting her gaze upwards to meet the glances of the elders who had come to notice her presence, she stood silent for a moment before letting them know her thoughts in a series of short, excited yips.

---The response she got was not one she was particularly excited to hear.

---"Child, you cannot change your element. You were born a Dunian, and a Dunian you will stay," creaked the raspy voice of the elder closest to her.

---"But what if my place is not in Dunia? I have no power over the Earth."

---"It will come in time, just practice patience. Until then, stay with your own kind. The trust of the pack is not easy to regain." The elder put their head down; a teary-eyed pup walked away. From then forward, her trips out to observe the hunts came to a close. When her peers trained for apprenticeship that grew closer by the day, Nitara's magic remained weak and unused as she refused to embrace her Dunian roots.

---All around her, more and more of her peers were choosing to begin their apprenticeships, selecting their new ranks and taking off into the pack lifestyle. Nitara hung behind, rather spending her time at the training grounds of the Moto and Maji packs. Neither pack was welcoming of her presence, but tolerated it as long as she did not draw too close. Every free second she had was spent in the shadows, following the training of apprentices from both packs. Upon returning to her own camp one day, her footsteps followed by the unapproving whispers of the other pack members, the older pup was met with the stern gaze of the pack leader.

---"Nitara," the leader spoke, bringing her aside. "I've received all too many reports from the scouts about your travels. Your own peers believe your gems are cracked because you never practice with them. The savants worry you won't be able to be trained. Have you seen how wary the other Dunians have become of you? They believe you have bad intentions."

---The golden-pelted Xholi opened her mouth as if to reply, but let it fall closed once more.

---"I'm putting an end to this here. The only Savant willing to take you on as an apprentice is the Sentinel; they've seen your careful eye, and believe you have potential as a pack guard. Your ceremony is tonight, I'll see you there."

---Doubt still lingered in the back of Nitara's mind that she would ever amount to anything in Dunia without control over the Earth. What good was a keen eye to spy enemies if you then couldn't attack them? She had teeth and claws, of course, but would never be able to fight as well as the other sentinels. Nitara attended her ceremony, attended her first training session, and it almost seemed as if all was going well with her place in the pack until she began cutting training altogether to return to the Moto and Maji grounds. She avoided the Dunian camp as frequently as possible, unable to not feel the piercing glares of her packmates every time she returned.

---She watched the Moto through the summer and spring, hiding in the forest around their training grounds to watch them create sparks in the air as the humidity clung to her fur and made her bunker down deep in the foliage, observing with wide eyes at their quick, rigid movements that made ash rain down from the treetops. Copying their style took time, but as the months flew by she learned to point her muzzle, to turn on her heel, to duplicate every fire-conjuring technique of the Motians until she collapsed in a panting heap in the dirt. Never once did she create a spark, an ash, a hint of flame, and she grew disheartened and dissatisfied with herself until the leaves turned red to yellow to brown, falling off the trees in a dance that resembled the flames she had failed to create.

---Fall through winter was spent in the shadows of the Magi training grounds. Their movements so much more fluid and graceful, she took her time observing before trying it on her own. Leaping, swiveling, swirling, she had their movements down to every little pinpoint of motion in that it seemed the cold air would crackle, water vapor drawing from all around her to form a perfect little sphere of water. But it didn't, and no matter how much she practiced, she could not manipulate the slightest bit of water. Her heart sunk more and more.

---What she didn't notice through that year was the rise of a pillar of Earth as she copied a Motian gesture, a swirling storm of dust as she imitated Majian moves.

---For the first time in a year, she entered the Dunian camp, now an adult, with her head held high. Most of the pack was out hunting as the first rays of sunlight danced over the hilltops, so Nitara chose the middle of the camp to lay down with her head on her paws, leaving her eyes open to observe those Xholis still within the camp confines as she always had. And when the pack returned, she felt their eyes on her pelt, glaring at the one who hadn't spent more than a few minutes in the camp at a time for the past year. More and more paws passed by the corners of her vision, none stopping until a single set of paws made a direct line to Nitara herself and stopped there.

---"We all knew you'd be back," the pack leader said as Nitara raised her head to meet their glance. "It was only a matter of time. My, my, haven't you grown. Where have you been, all this time?"

---So Nitara stood, took a few steps back, and showed the leader what she had learned from watching the Motians, a perfect copy of their erratic dance of flamelike motions without conjuring a single spark. She performed the moves of the Majians in fluid twists and turns without a single drop of water falling. But she was no longer disheartened, simply content as she finished her routine and sat down in front of her leader.

---"It seems your magic has also grown."

---And her head turned to gaze over her shoulder to look upon the great pillars of Earth she had raised that crumbled as soon as she flicked her tail. She turned to fully face the terrain behind her and, just for a moment, let the Earth raise into a small storm of dust around her as she formed streams of soil that danced through the air until she took one more step forward so that it all collapsed around her.

---"The pack has a long way to go to trust you once more; rejoining us will not be an easy task in the slightest, but if you can come to walk among us once more, I believe you have much that you can teach our future generations. The Sentinel Savant was right, your watchfulness does have great potential. And now that you have the magic to match? I would be pleased for you to rejoin us, if you can regain our full trust, as a Savant. You have progressed further as a Sentinel in your own training than I have seen many Sentinels progress with traditional training. May all you have observed strengthen the sight of all future Sentinels for years to come."

---And with time, their trust was regained.

---Welcome home, Savant of Earthen heart.
