➡Kind
She is kind and loving. She tries her very best to be sweet and nice to anyone who needs it. Which can accidentally translate into pity. But she just wants to help. Her instinct to be kind overwhealms her, and yes, she is way too nice sometimes. She does her best to respect someone and love someone dearly
➡Protective
She will die before a friend or loved one is hurt. She will fight till the end with all the resources she has. But she doesn't jump to being protective instantly like Inglor always was. But yes, she gets really badly nervous in those types of situations where there will be danger involved.
➡Naive
She has a beautiful childlike naivety, despite everything that has happened to her and Inglor. It's one thing that has stayed with her throughout everything. It offers creative outlook on the world. Though it is bad sometimes, she trusts way to easily
Shy
She strikes you as a creature who prefers being everywhere all at once, very chatty. No, she's very quiet, introvert and really shy. She had always been like that. She hates being in the center of attention due to the fact that growing up she always was
Shali was always a simple girl, though not simple in appearance. With her wide orange eyes, her neck mouth and extra legs that were incapable of anything but looking strange. She was born on the solstice, her name translating loosely to Sun Shadow. She grew up repressed and feared despite her doing nothing to be as hated as she was. Friends passed and went. But this, this is the story of how the young Iqena met her mate.
Shali ran from yet another village that decided she was much too freakish looking to reside there for more than a few moments. She ran as fast as her hooves could carry her, the villagers chasing after her for a short distance. Her extra legs stretched out as if they could fold all the way out and touch the earth. But they couldn't if the could more than just at their 'knee' and stick straight down. She cleared a small stream and started to slow despite the danger not quite passing. But the overlapped voices had quieted for her to feel safe. But extra hoof beats soon filled the air. Shali was then suddenly surrounded by humans on horses. They had ropes and lashed her down. She thrashed in her binding, the mouth in her neck biting down onto the rope as if it would make any form of difference. She bucked and tried to lift up, but was only tied tighter to the earth. She was left gasping for air and huffing sharply. She looked around fearfully. They dragged her up and tied her muzzle, chest and neck to lead her. And despite all her struggling against her bindings, it was hopeless. They were taking her back to the village. They pushed her into a barn, there was no other creatures inside of it other than the rats. The shackled her and tied the shackle with rope loosely on a rafter. So she could move a little around the barn, but was a few meters from the door. She huffed tiredly and laid down to cry and sleep. Even her extra mouth whimpered with sorrow. She soon drifted into sleep. She woke up the next morning, was fed very little and paced. Slept, woke, ate, pace, sleep, wake, eat, pace, sleep, wake, eat, pace. The same cycle over and over for many many days and nights as she lost some of the shine to her coat, the muscle to her form and the glint in her wide eyes. This cycle remained unbroken until a new Iqena was placed in the barn, tethered in a similar way. This new Iqena had bright yellow eyes and was a dark maroon colour with cream legs. He had an eye on each shoulder. These were the same bright . He thrashed much harder than she had. He broke free from one rope for just a moment and was lashed back again. Tethered roughly with stronger rope and more than Shali.
She pitied him and spoke up "Are you alright?"
The other Iqena turned to her with a dark glare and a growl in her direction. At the fearsome looking Iqena, she couldn't help but flinch.
"I'm sorry" she mumbled softly at his anger. He turned away from her and huffed. He paced angrily and mumbled furiously.
From then for quite a long time, for many days, the other Iqena did not speak to her. Shali was curious but did not question the fearsome Iqena for fear of being harmed. This silence between the two Iqena went on until the fearsome crimson Iqena broke it
"Is there a way out?"
Shali had been resting, laying down to conserve her energy, but her head rose hopefully at his voice. "Only the front door... I've been here for a long time and haven't found a way out.. I'm Shali. By the way"
He grunted at her and spoke a little softer "Inglor.. Do you want to try and bust out?"
Shali perked up at the idea of escaping and rose to her hooves "But how would we do that? The rope is too strong and you have more rope than me."
"Well, we can work together, tangle ourselves up and pull as a team. It’ll be easy” He had a hopeful gilt to his otherwise monotone voice.
Shali, was at very least, quite nervous of his plan. “Alright” She spoke hesitantly. She didn’t really want to as to fact she was more of a self preservationist and was quite timorous of the idea. But she agreed
“Great!” His eyes shine and Shali felt a spark of happiness that the fearsome iqena was now pleased. “We’ll do it at night, when they are sure to be asleep”
Shali agreed once more, but still was full of fear for the night to come
Soon, night had fallen and Inglor stomped his hooves, to which she was roused from her dozing. She shook herself lightly, clearing away some of the scraps of hay that stuck stubbornly to her fur “Is it time already?” She managed to keep her voice from shaking too severely but she was still very afraid of what was to come.
“Yea, Shali, come on, help me”
“Okay” The two iqena got flush against each other and circled one another, tangling up their chains. And with a cue from Inglor they rushed forward as hard as they possibly could. The wood gave a groan and the rope snapped. They ran forward and got the doors, Inglor let out a little cheer, but their triumph was short lived as men appeared from around the village. The two shot off like bullets in a gun, running as fast as they each could, sticking together. But they were cut off. Rope down, Shali was too weak to fight anymore, but she tried. Inglor was stronger and thrashed harder than Shali had. But the struggle was short lived when they hit him. They were dragged back to the barn, their shackles enforced with chain. The men circled the two Iqena
“Would you like to know what happens to freak who disobey?”
They each looked at the humans with looks of disgust and hatred in their eyes, they couldn’t help it. Hence the humans retaliated
“Let’s see, you have extra eyes right” The male pointed at Inglor and smirked evily “We’ll take your normal eyes” To which he pulled out something, a small tool. Shali couldn’t see because the man was in the way, but Inglor cried out. Another came toward her "and you have extra legs. You won't need the back ones no more." and then, it was pain. Ripping through her back legs as she screamed for mercy. They wrapped it up with bandages. She couldn't even stand, the pain was searing
They we're weak for a long time. But, when all was lost, they saw a small faerie. It burned their chains, and stood by the door. "Inglor! Wake up! Shali cried out to him. She struggled to her feet, finding her chains broken. Inglor raised his head from his spot and swung his head in her direction. "what Shali?"
"there's a faerie Inglor, it's by the door. Get up, I'll lead you if you support me."
Inglor nodded and rose to his hooves. Both were weak but, a new opportunity to be free was well wanted and deserved. the faerie aforementioned was a small ball of white light that swooped and turned in the air, beckoning them. Shali and Inglor moved toward it. Shali leaning heavily on the maroon iqena's shoulder and hence, leading him with her steps toward the faerie. Inglor was blind now, not even the eyes on his shoulder could see. But that was normal, the eyes on the shoulder would never see, they didn't have the nerve that made it possible. The faerie led them out the door. It was slow due to Shali's limp, even if she didn't have that it would still be slow going because she would have to lead Inglor. But the faerie was patient and led them into the forest. All the way to a bank. A being stood there. Tall and graceful. With dark hair and green eyes, a huge black wolf, that had a white mark on it’s shoulder of the huntress, by her side and a bow in her hand. She was the well known huntress, breaker of chains. She looked down at the pair with a smile.
“Both of you have been so brave” Said the beautiful huntress, Ashcat Stormbreaker was her name. Her wolf sniffed the two iqena cautiously, humming softly deep in it’s throat. The dragon by her side in which was massive, the size of a small horse, chuffed and puffed smoke through it’s nostrils. Shali shook in a slight fear, the goddess like warrior was intimidating. She touched Shali’s head. She was suddenly filled with a strong warmth, her legs felt so much better. She shook slightly and looked back at her legs and found that blood no longer appeared to be sweeping toward the fresh white and had seemingly disappeared. She then was surrounded by light and shifted her eyes up and saw a halo above her head. Her neck mouth opened into a smile and Shali’s own mouth mimic-ed the smile.
“Thank you” She said with an enthused voice. She watched as the huntress knealed to be at eye level with Inglor and frowned. Setting down her bow, she waved her hands over Inglor’s natural eyes and looked sad
“I cannot heal this, but” She waved her hands over the eyes at the shoulders of Inglor and said very softly “Be well and see again” Inglor seemed to leap backward
“I can see!” He swiveled his body, looking with his shoulders. He swiveled to look at the huntress and smiled wide “Thank you Huntress!” He sounded so pleased
“It will be a team effort, you and Shali will help each other. It is my will.” The huntress smiled, but it soon disappeared as she heard, they all heard, rustling in the bushes. A few men shifted from the shadows. The Huntress looked to the faerie and said distressed “I thought you put them all into sleep” The faerie responded with a sound like tinkling bells. The wolf growled and barked menacingly, it was quite large, a few men backed away. The Huntress quickly took up her bow and withdrew an arrow from her quiver “Retreat or be punished, these creatures are not to be harmed, they are under my protection” The woman’s voice was fierce, as strong as an ocean but was still beautiful. Her eyes seemed to glow in the dim. The men did not move and she spoke softly in direction to her wolf “Malan” The wolf growled and leaped toward the men, fighting them. The Huntress looked to Inglor and Shali “Run. Now”. It did not take a genius to Shali, whose mind was already on hyperdrive, to gladly oblige and begin to run. Guiding Inglor with her light from the halo that rested above her head.
A while later, the Huntress returned “You two will not be bothered ever again” She reached out a hand and showed Shali two necklaces with the symbol of the Huntress. It looked a little like an eye. She put it over the head of Shali and Inglor. “You will be protected as long as you wear those necklaces. No one will dare to ever harm you.”
Shali nodded and said with tears of joy choking her up “Thank you so much”
The Huntress offered her a sweet smile and waved at them. She whistled and a horse came from the bushes. A huge black beast with feathered legs and silver armor. She mounted it and settled in the saddle. Her wolf beside her, the dragon shot into the sky and roared a little. “Isash” She spoke loudly and the horse reared and galloped away, the wolf followed close behind. Shali looked toward Inglor and nuzzled him softly “Come on, let’s go”
Hence the story of the mated Iqena. They needed each other to survive
