Whoop my attention has just been stolen
Male, obsessed with his hair, insecure, calculating, vivacious, deceptive, manipulative, perceptive
Often confused for a female due to his hair
Always tries to prove his masculinity by making others seem weak
When he was younger he never stood up for himself
Ran away from home when he was 8 because his siblings made fun of him, was caught and given back before running away again as a 14 year old
Might be related to another staff kia?
Literally snarls at his hair being touched
Has amazing reflexes
He claims to be able to sense someone coming near his hair

Nose ring, hair brush tied to his tail, various beads woven into his carefully messy hair, beanie

. . . Why hello there, come in, come in! I see that you must have heard about me, or spotted my advertisements perhaps? I must say that a new visitor is very welcome here, I've grown quite bored you see, trying to read into my own fate. Its much more interesting to read into someone else's you know. Sit, sit. Make yourself comfortable, my home is your home of course. Please, address me as Nefrit if you wish, though this is really all about you. Now, lets start slowly shall we? Perhaps some tarot cards? Or tea leaves if you prefer?
I see, you're an ambitious one, you wish to gaze into the ball. Well now, we'll need some information of yours. Nothing personal of course, just your name and birthday, and perhaps a few other items. Alright, we'll begin now. Have patience with me dear as I lead you into a trance now . . .
Whats this my dear? It seems that you've found some interesting images. Concentrate! Don't lose sight of them, don't lose your focus. Just tell them to me and we'll interpret them later, yes? Good, good, be as detailed as possible. Hmm. . . how interesting. Come out of your trance now, little sunshine. Lets take a look at what we've found here now, quite interesting . . .

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

ωħαт đøeš чøυя fυтυяe šαч?

personality
Some often think that Maddox has a split personality or a case of bipolar disorder (some have even said schizophrenia) due to the difference in traits between himself and Nefrit, the two 'Kiamaras' often seeming like two separate and distinct Kia's trapped in one body. However, this is not the case. Maddox, as he likes to say, is acting. Nefrit is his character, much like an actor's character on stage or an author's pen name. He can clearly distinguish himself from Nefrit, and has never been bothered by his 'alter ego' or suffered anything because of it. So, in this section, there will be a description of Nefrit's characteristics, and Maddox's personality.

ⓝⓔⓕⓡⓘⓣ
outgoing
Nefrit loves to socialize. Give him a chance to party and he'll take it before you can even tell him that he wasn't invited in the first place. He's not afraid to speak his mind or do risky things, and is always down for a good night of dancing or even just walking around with a large group of people and talking. Nefrit doesn't like to be alone, and loves to be a part of the crowd.

charming
With is eloquent words and good looks, its hard for Nefrit not to charm others. Their first impression of him is sweet and smooth talking, innocent even. Nefrit uses his charms for his work, mostly to draw in customers and keep them, but he also uses his sweet words to get himself a lady or two to spend the night with if he's feeling lonely.

trickster
Nefrit isn't afraid to use the tricks he's learned to earn a little extra cash or get someone to give him something that he really wants. He uses his tricks mostly to get more money for him when he gambles or plays poker with his circus friends, rarely using them on his customers.

confident
Nefrit is very confident about himself and his actions, never doubting anything that he does. He doesn't care what others think of him, since most don't know him well enough to judge him anyway. Nefrit's confidence and charisma often rubs off well on others, who appreciate his optimistic "I can do anything" attitude (though only for a short time).

mysterious
A lot of Nefrit's "personality" and "history" is hidden in the shadows, mostly on purpose. He doesn't want any one person to know too much about him; he actually enjoys living under a shroud of mystery. The less people know about him, the better it was for business and for getting himself dates. Because of this, Nefrit is often vague with his answers about his past, and his present lifestyle.

ⓜⓐⓓⓓⓞⓧ
quiet
Maddox is a quiet guy, often keeping to himself. He doesn't talk much to strangers, or anyone really, including some of the people at the circus who don't know him well. He does all of his after show chores quietly, without comment towards the bustling members preparing for the next show excitedly. Maddox doesn't really share their energy, though he does enjoy taking care of the animals everyday, sometimes giving them nice comments to brighten up their morning or afternoon. Maddox has often been called isolated and reclusive because he doesn't talk much or interact with others often, but really, he just doesn't have much to say or when he does have something to say, the moment has already passed and its too late for him to comment.

wallflower
This is really just more of an addition to Maddox's quiet nature. He never approaches anyone on his own, and is often so hidden away that no one really approaches him either. He doesn't mind parties or large social gatherings, but he often finds that people forget that he's there and has gotten left behind before. Maddox doesn't mind though, he prefers to be alone with his own thoughts rather than talking to someone. When someone does talk to him, he opens up a bit to them, though he finds it rather draining. Some days he'll feel like talking about his entire life story, and most days he'll just give vague answers. However, when approached, Maddox is very open about the circus life and his work as a fortune teller.

confident
Maddox's confidence is much different than Nefrit's. His confidence doesn't show as much, its not obvious. Maddox has a lot of confidence within himself, but he doesn't take risks or do daring things like Nefrit would. He doesn't let the thoughts of others bother him, perfectly content with the way he is. Maddox never doubts himself or his decisions, refusing to look back on past mistakes and brood over them. He prefers to learn from his mistakes immediately and move on. Maddox has a high self esteem (or at least likes to believe that he does) and tries not to let what other people say about him bother him.

forgetful
Maddox may seem all high and mighty and intelligent with what he minored in and what he studied, but his short term memory is atrocious. It takes him a lot of repetition to remember simple things like names or where things are. College was a bit of a struggle for him because of this, but he overcame his forgetfulness to get his minor. Maddox didn't bother to overcome this trait of his outside of his education, however, and it often annoys others when he forgets their name or to do a simple task for them. It took him a while to memorize the chores that he needed to do for the circus, and he has to do it in a specific order otherwise he'll forget to do something important like feed the animals or organize costumes.

witty
When Maddox does say something, its often something witty. He's quite clever with his words, and you'll often find him smiling or laughing at some unknown joke or response that he came of up with in his head. Maddox's timing with his remarks are usually spot on; the right thing said at the right time. It brings him into focus for a few moments, but then he slinks back in to the shadows, forgotten again. Maddox enjoys his brief little moments of humor, whether or not someone else is there to enjoy it with him.\

history
Maddox grew up in a circus with his parents, his father an animal trainer and his mother an acrobat. He was never bored, and was constantly working behind the scenes (he didn't like being on stage all that much). He did menial tasks usually, when he was younger. Small things like cleaning up after some of the animals and organizing the makeup area after shows. As Maddox grew older, he was given harder jobs, but also more freedom. He loved spending time with other circus members, learning a lot more traveling with them than he ever would going to school. There were textbooks of course, his parents insisted that he had to be educated, but there were also other, clever tricks that he learned. Maddox learned how to gamble and cheat, how to trick others into believing him, ways to get away with theft. All of this was interesting to him, but what interested him more were the tales of an old mystic that he called Granny Mae. She often told him stories about her life, and taught him how to read tarot cards and tea leaves when he asked. Maddox soon became fascinated with fortune telling and divination, sparking an interest in him that his parents hadn't seen before. He left the circus as an adult to go to a local college in a town they had stopped in. His parents, hoping that Maddox would want to go, had saved up some money for him, though he still had to take out loans. Nonetheless, he appreciated his chance at a higher education. At college, Maddox studied psychology and world history, mythology and languages, reading texts about divination whenever he had free time. He didn't major in anything, though he did minor in psychology, as he was eager to pursue his dream of becoming a fortune teller. Maddox easily joined a new circus, richer than the one he had been a part of before, and was given his own little shack of sorts to run his business at during shows. All profits that he made were to be his alone, as long as he did chores around the tent to help out. Maddox decorated his 'shack' with bright colors and patterns, the inside painted more dully and covered in posters and newspaper clippings with gauzy cloth hanging from the ceiling and walls. He's been a part of this new circus, which goes by the name of Big Apple Circus, for three years now, and his business has been rather steady.

quirks
accent :: Maddox has a slight australian accent, though it only comes out fully on certain words that he can't pronounce the way Americans do. His words also sound cut off sometimes, like he's forgotten to pronounce the last syllable of some words fully.
fidgety :: Whenever Maddox gets nervous, he tends to play around with the edge of his shirt, his scarves, or his hair. Its a bad habit that he picked up as a child, though it was beneficial to his parents since it was obvious to them when Maddox was lying or didn't want to do something.

uncovering secrets
An interview with Maddox; it took a lot of coaxing and a lot of chocolate to get him to talk this much.

Hello Maddox! My name is .chamomile., from the New York Times, and I'm here to interview you about your circus the Big Apple and your line of work. Are you ready to begin?
Yes of course.

When did you first join the Big Apple?
Right after college. I had just finished with my minor in psychology and I was ready to leave, I saw an ad for a circus coming to town so when they got here, I asked the ringmaster if I could join them and he said yes.

What do you love the most about the circus life?
I like traveling. I like seeing new places and exploring them, I learn a lot about how other people live. I also like taking care of the animals.

He said yes just like that?
Well, yeah. I told him I had past experience with another circus and what I wanted to do, and then I was in.

Could you tell us about your past experience then? Is it any different than what you're doing now? Is this circus better or worse?
I can't remember the name of the circus, but my parents were a part of it. I was born on the road, while they were moving to a new location. I'm doing pretty much the same things here as I did when I was a kid. Its the only way I'm able to keep all the profits for myself from my fortune telling business. I really like this circus better, I have more freedom, my own income, and my parents aren't here to bug me.

Tell us about your parents, how did they meet, what were they like, and how you came to be.
Ah...
Well as far as I know they were gymnasts. Father always said that he met mom while she was doing her bar routine, and mother says that she met him while she was doing her floor stuff. I don't know which one is right, but the point is they fell in love, right? And they were good parents. They taught me how to read and write, how to do math and all about science, all on their own. Sometimes they could be strict, but I was already used to everyone else around me being strict so it wasn't anything new. My parents had always wanted children. Their goal was to have three kids, and at that point they would have been out of the circus and living in a nice suburban house. But they didn't have enough money to do that, but they still ended up having me even though they didn't want to raise a child in the circus environment.

Do you ever wish that you could change the way you were brought up?
It would be weird if I wasn't raised in the circus.

Okay. Do you wish that you had siblings then?
[color=#8f8f8f]No, I like having all of the attention. I don't really like little kids anyway, so I don't I would've liked having younger siblings. The animals are enough for me, though, they can act like brats sometimes.

Well, if you ever want a sibling you can take mine. If you couldn't be a part of the circus or a fortune teller, what would you do instead?
I probably would have majored in psychology and minored in english in college, then I probably would have become a therapist.

Why a therapist?
I can read others easily. I don't really like helping others per se, but I do enjoy taking a peek into their lives. Its interesting to walk in someone else's shoes for a moment, it gives you a different perspective on life.

One more question and we'll wrap things up. How did you get into the fortune telling business?
There was this old mystic who insisted I called her Granny Mae at my old circus. She taught me the basics and the secrets of reading tea leaves and tarot cards; I was enraptured by what she told me. Fortune telling lore and practices held my attention for most of my life until I decided to do something with my passion. Now, you can't study fortune telling in college but you can study things like psychology that help you to understand others better. Its really been quite useful in my business. Outside of that, I studied mystic related texts and talked with a lot of other mystics for advice and to learn from them.

Thats all I have for you Maddox, thank you for interviewing with me. We'll contact you when this is published, it should be in next weeks print.
You're welcome, it was my pleasure.

a land of imagination
Maddox's recount of the first time he ever visited New York City; told as if in the present

Its cold. There's snow falling from the sky, but as soon as it hits the sidewalks it melts. Steam is pouring from the cracks, and I take a brief moment to wonder where it was coming from before I'm shoved forward by the crowd. There's not time for me to think here, everyone is in such a rush. They're all trying to get somewhere and I just want to stand still. Ah, well, I can't do anything about it really. I just have to keep moving.
And I'm lost. Where am I now? I was just outside of our center or arena or whatever you like to call it, the place where we're performing, and now I'm on 5th Avenue. Its not as crowded where I'm standing, but the next street over is packed with people. There are holiday lights everywhere, in the windows, on the buidlings-- there's a man walking by with lights on his body. I wave to him, but he doesn't wave back. Maybe he just didn't see me. I probably didn't wave enough. This place is too crowded, I don't like it. I feel like a sardine packed in with these people. I can't get out of the crowd though, so I follow them again. And I'm led somewhere new yet again, and I'm still utterly and completely lost. There's an ice rink in front of me now, and a towering Christmas tree on the other end. The ice is full of people too.
Is this city just full of people? Do they even have room for cars? All I've seen so far are taxis, where are the cars?
I think I'll stay here for a while and watch. I've always liked to watch people skate, I'm too uncoordinated to skate myself. I have to have someone there to hold me up otherwise I just cling to the walls like an idiot. I look like a newborn giraffe trying to walk; it just doesn't work. Even though they're just skating in circles, everyone looks so graceful. I can see little kids zooming in and out between legs and people. Another reason why I don't ice skate, those children have no mercy. They'll run into you for fun and won't even bother with an apology.
Bah, I've become bored now. Worn myself out staring at the ice, its time to move again. I find a break in the crowd, jumping in as if the sidewalks were a train I was about to miss. I really wish I knew how I had gotten out here in the first place. I walk a few more blocks and turn a corner, tired of this street. I notice more crowds of people and bright lights ahead, curious as to what exactly was in front of me. And then it hits me, its Times Square. I mean literally, it hit me. I've run into one of the buildings and I catch myself before I can fall on my face. Its beautiful, crowded, but beautiful. Neon signs are flashing at me, the bright LED television screaming advertisements at me. There's a Starbucks and a tea shop and the giant Toys R Us is just down the way. Crossing through the traffic lanes almost got me killed, the taxis here are like a stampede. I sit in the middle of the square, on one of the benches. The show is falling more heavily now, and its freezing. I want to go back to our performance area, indoors, and go to sleep. But first I go off and buy myself a hot coffee from a vendor on the street corner. Two creams, two sugars. The drink is surprisingly good, I can taste a hint of hazelnut in it.
Time to go home (pun intended, if it counts).
Mustering up the courage, I go up to a nice looking woman, asking her for directions to the tenth avenue Verizon Center, and she kindly gives me directions. I repeat them over and over again in my head until I'm sure I won't forget them, holding my hot drink in my hands and leaving the heart of New York City. As I walk away, the crowds thin out, the lights die down. It really does feel like I'm leaving the bright lights of the city for the dark shadows of some sketchy place. I feel alright though, safe, because I didn't have anything on me worth taking. Except for my two dollars change in my pocket.
I walk quickly now, repeating the directions again to make sure I hadn't forgotten them. The snow has gotten much worse, and I have gotten colder. Soon, as if it weren't there before, the center appears bright before my eyes. I wasn't concentrating. I almost got lost again.
Opening the doors, I stepped in to the warm breath of air. Quickly, I make my way to where my circus is setting up, the Big Apple. A funny coincidence that we're here in New York. Or maybe the Ringmaster did it on purpose because he knew that some day, he would take his show to the Big Apple. Who knows? Its really just time for me to sleep.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

вeħıиđ тħe š¢eиeš

costume time
It takes Maddox about two and a half hours to get all of his makeup and costume work done for the day. His work starts at five in the morning, beginning with his circus chores and ending with opening up shop, which happens at about nine thirty. Chores take him an hour now ever since he worked out a more efficient system for himself, and then the rest of the time is spent doing personal business.
Nefrit's costume changes sometimes, from more simple pieces to complex ones depending on what town they're in and how much business Maddox estimates he'll get. He puts on simple ones for smaller towns. This usually consists on minimal make up, and a few patterned cloths wrapped around his body. But for big cities, Maddox goes all out. There are scarves and cloth all over his body, bangles and jewels hanging off of his neck, wrists, and horns. His makeup is dramatic, usually consisting of a lot of eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara. Contouring is a must to make his facial features stand out more, and sometimes he'll wear false eyelashes for added effect. Bright colors adorn him, which he thinks make his natural fur colors and patterns stand out more, enhancing his air of mystery. Maddox does all of his make up himself, refusing to let anyone help him. Sometimes, he'll do his hair and curl it some, wearing a head band with it, but most of the time he just leaves it as is.

anthro
In anthro form, Maddox stands at a tall six feet one inch. He's well muscled from doing all of his chores around the circus tent, which can range from lifting and moving heavy objects to simple dusting and mopping. His hair is the same as it is; black with ombre blue highlights. Maddox also has his piercings, on his right side he has two studs on his lobe, a ring in his cartilage, and a purple studded bar. On his left side is a silver studded bar (lower on his ear), and a purple ring in his cartilage with a feather attached. Maddox's eyes are a sea green color, and his facial features are well defined with a straight nose and straight jaw. When not in costume, Maddox wears whatever he finds comfortable.

come in
This little section is a description of what Maddox's shack looks like.
The outside is made of worn wood, but he has painted the outside with bright colors, adding all sorts of patterns to it whenever he feels like it (much like his scarves). Theres a single window, made of one inch thick glass that distorts the sunlight. A thin, gauzy curtain can be pulled down to cover this window, offering some privacy. The inside often gets stuffy, so Maddox keeps a small fan running in it (he bought one of the fancy Dyson was, simply because he liked the purple color it came in). Its painted dark colors, usually, as Maddox often changes his interior design. Currently, its a dark shade of pink. A small, square wooden table sits in the center of the hut with two plush chairs on either side. Maddox sits facing the window, and his customers with their backs to it. All around the walls and ceilings are gauzy cloth, mostly in shades of purples, blues, and pinks. On the wall behind where Maddox usually sits is a plethora of newspaper clippings and posters. The clippings are from famous events or interesting things that have happened, whereas the posters are old, faded circus ads and vintage movies and musicals. Maddox also has a small shelf near the window where he keeps a hot water heater running, his tea set, elephant bones (bought legally of course), and his deck of tarot cards. The floor is made of wood, but Maddox placed a dark grey, shag carpet underneath his table.

fears
Maddox doesn't have very many fears, though there are a lot of things that he dislikes with a strong passion such as spiders and moths. There are only two things that he truly fears: his parents dying without him being able to say good bye and being kicked out of the Big Apple. He doesn't see his parents as often as he used to, but still loves them and writes them letters since they don't like emails or texts. It would hurt him deeply if he wasn't by his parents side when they passed away, and is constantly asking them about their health and wellbeing to make sure they're still in good shape. Maddox also loves working with the Big Apple; the circus troupe has become his home and family. To lose it to some mistake he made or for other reasons would also crush Maddox. If that were to happen, he probably wouldn't be able to recover from the loss and end up wasting the rest of his life away doing nothing. It would take away his sense of purpose.

art
The two pieces shown in my form are both by me. I wish I had more time to draw him, but those were the only two pieces I could get done in a timely manner ^^

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

end notes

My initial thoughts when I first saw this Kiamara was "wow, this babe is absolutely gorgeous!" I immediately fell in love with the design, and a character jumped into my mind right away. It couldn't have been clearer to me that the character I wanted to create would be a mysterious one, who traveled a lot and read peoples fortunes. I think it fits in with his design perfectly, with the dark colors and bright accents, as well as with the glitter around him. It just gives this Kiamara an air of mystery almost, like they would hide in the shadows. I began typing away in a word document about what kind of information I wanted to present for this character, though I've only begun piecing it together and doing coding a few days ago. I don't have a lot of art (I was busy all break with studying, finals, and the holidays) since I had so little time and had to do other commissions, but I still wanted to get a couple of pieces in. I really connect with this character I created, and I can see a lot of potential in expanding upon his past and other things about him. I hope that my ideas came across clear to you, because I definitely went all over the place with typing up information. Thank you for creating this gorgeous Kiamara, I had a lot of fun developing him c:
