What injury put a stop to his racing days? Due to a false start, Barbaro fractured bones in his right hind leg. Although this eventually healed, he suffered further laminitis in both front legs, which eventually led to his owner's decision to put him down humanely.

What injury put a stop to his racing days? When Barbaro false-started at the Preakness, he fractured three bones in and around the fetlock of his right hind leg. The injury ruined any chance of a Triple Crown in 2006 and ended his racing career. After a surgery, he developed laminitis in his back left leg. Five operations later, he stayed in Intensive Care for months. His leg eventually healed, but he developed laminitis in his front two legs. In the end, he was put to sleep unfortunately after a conclusion by his owners.
Link: He was a hero when it came to leading the pack.Fact: Why jockeys stand in the stirrups. For a summary of how: The high posting position helps remove the weight off of the horse's back in order to help him move to full extension, allowing him to take longer strides quicker. It also allows the rider to find a center of balance in the stirrups, and put an equal amount of weight on both the front and back of the stirrup.
