The wind kissed Carmine's face as she stood out in a field littered with flowers as far as the eye can see. She loved the feel of the wind tugging at her mane and smiled a wide grin the almost reached her ears. Her paws lifted into the air and she ran, feeling as if she could fly over every field in the world, energy coursing through her. "I will never stop smiling! Never!" She cried as she glided over the colorful flowers.
She hadn't noticed that she ran so far into a green forest filled with moss and stumps. The sunlight filtered through the trees, shining on everything in a refreshing scene. She watched in awe as butterflies flew overhead, spread butterfly dust over the ground as they slowly flapped their way through life. Carmine wanted to go through life slowly and gracefully too. She wanted to cherish every little thing that happens.
Carmine went deeper into the forest until she came across a cool cave. It glowed with magic and mystery, and Carmine could not resist to go in it. She kept walking forward, occasionally casting a sidelong glance and studying her surroundings before heading forward again. At last, she came onto a crystal, it's blue shine seeping through the cave.
"Welcome...to the cave of beginnings." A voice cried out, low and eerie. "Not many make it here. You must have talent to endure..." The voice sneered hatefully. Carmine jumped back, suddenly aware that the crystal was talking to her. "What do you want with me?" Carmine protested bravely. The crystal glowed again. "I know you want something... You have proved you can handle it if you got it. State your wish." The crystal boomed. Carmine gulped and stepped forward. "I want to go through life slowly, like a butterfly. I want to be able to cherish everything that happens around me, so that I never miss anything."
The crystal laughed a deep, hearty laugh. "Are you sure...? There has always been... A consequence." Carmine didn't hear those last words. She was positive this is what she wanted. "This is what I want." She said, he voice no longer shaking with fear, but with excitement and power. "Grant it to me now."
The crystal shook and glowed, growing brighter by the second. Carmine took a step back, wary of this new change. Suddenly, the crystal beamed, and a bright light was heading straight for Carmine. She screamed, but her legs were frozen in place. The light engulfed her vision, and she had no were to run. All she saw was white.
"You have freed me, dear Carmine. I will haunt you forever..."
Suddenly, she was back in her own world, laying on that very field that she played in before. She got up and looked around warily. Nothing had changed. She felt no different, and the only thing that felt strange was that everything seemed shorter.
She walked back home, no longer jolly and carefree, but burdened and confused. She didn't know what went wrong. Suddenly, she slipped in a puddle, and was looking face down. She gasped. She had grown! Not just a little, but a lot. She was a teen now! She rushed back home, eager to tell her mom and dad.
When she returned home, her parents weren't there. "Miss Carmine..." A voice said from behind her. She turned around to see a young pseudo at her door. "I am afraid your parent are gone. They died in the same Accident while you were away..." Carmine gasped and ran out the door, back to the puddle.
She watched as the wish came into full affect. "You never wanted to stop smiling..." A voice said in her head as her design changed into a perpetual smile. Suddenly, she felt slow... Like she had a limit on everything. A burden that slows her down mentally, slowing her every step. Stop, stop!" She cried at the voice.
Ever since then, she has walked in a slow fashion due to the wish, and is always looking for the spirit who cursed her, so that she can ask him to fix all the wrongs, her pain overwhelming her soul.
