Never has anyone met a more hardworking and dutiful mare than Trafalgar. Once set a task, she will complete it to the absolute best of her ability, never letting anyone down. She lives to work; petty things such as 'pleasure' hold no place in her life. Bold as brass, this mare will jump anything and perform any dressage move, no matter the difficulty. With her diligent nature, she is seen as the ideal show horse, almost never making a mistake.
Slip-ups do happen, however, and poor Trafalgar cannot stand doing anything below standard. If she does anything, (no matter how minor) incorrectly, she'll mentally torture herself until she is convinced she won't do it again. This is an incredibly difficult time for everyone; the over-anxious mare will lash out in anger at anyone trying to console her. Trafalgar's gentler side rarely shows its face, making her appear to be completely emotionless at times. When she does allow a little light to shine through, she's mildly affectionate and sweet, and displays a little curiosity here and there.
History:
Trafalgar was born at a top breeding facility in the UK. Her sire was the award wining Aristocrat IV, and her dam was the beautiful Heroic Remembrance. The pairing was expected to produce the ideal sport horse, a true champion.
When she was a foal, Trafalgar was quiet. Seemingly too quiet; she'd never interact with the other colts and fillies around her. Since social interaction is integral in the mentality of the horse, her handlers were worried. Trafalgar was slowly encouraged to play and communicate with others, though without much success. She was allowed to live in her own world, away from distractions.
At age four, her training started. This seemed to flip an unknown switch in Trafalgar's mind. She became focused and diligent, excelling in everything asked of her. A show rider from the US took notice of her, and bought her for a hefty sum. She was transported by air across the Atlantic, and taken to her new home. Here, she worked just as hard, winning many ribbons and prizes. Her potential was recognised by another rider, and Trafalgar changed hands once again. This triggered a long chain of buying and selling. Trafalgar was kept for a while, then always sold at a profit to a new home. She never seemed to mind- in fact, she appeared to like the fast-paced life she led. Unfortunately for her, this was all about to change.
When pushed too far, any horse will snap, and Trafalgar is no exception. Someone must have annoyed her a little too much, or asked her for something too hard. The result was a trip to the Emergency Room, and Trafalgar's 'value' plummeted. No one wanted a dangerous horse, no mater how many ribbons it won. Critics only seemed to see the difficult side of Trafalgar, arguing that the mare should be retired or worse. Her owners had a good heart though, and they gave her to Cottonwood.
At this time, Mr Haase, a trainer at Fairbanks was in the US to search for horses. He didn't want a rescued horse, but came to have a look at Cottonwood anyway. Trafalgar was the first horse who really stood out to him, and he was determined to try her. He fell in love with the hardworking mare and her stubborn personality, and bought her. Trafalgar now resides at Fairbanks, where she is loved and treated like the treasure she is.
