Extras: Story and artBrinner has always been the adventurous kind. Always up to a challenge, sometimes he would go too far to prove himself and everyone that he was capable of doing anything. And that is how he got his tail the way it is.
It was a late autumn afternoon and Brinner hung out with his friends. They had just finished a meal together and had no more ideas for games or fun things to do, so they just walked lazily around the edge of their home woods. As they walked carelessly and aimlessly, they ended up too close to the human town they have been told to avoid. But before they turned around, a parrapup with a greenish coat said
"Hey, what about checking out that Rookridge Manor place they talk about? I heard it's haunted. Isn't that cool?" The three parrapups in the group looked at each other and a blue furred one said
"But we're not allowed in the town... and it's getting late, shouldn't we just go back home?" But another parrapup, a grey colored one, said
"Nah, it can't be that bad to just take a look, since we're this close already." After discussing for a while, they convince her of going too.
The four of them sneaked through the woods around the town until they reached the old, abandoned manor. Much of it was falling apart and it helped giving it an eerie feel, but the most curious thing about it was the single lit up candle placed by a window on the second floor.
"They say that candle was placed there by a ghost, and when it's lit up, it means the ghost is in the house, just waiting for a foolish one to show up and devour their soul," said the green parrapup with a smirk.
"Boo, so scary..." said Brinner, sarcastically.
"Hey, would the ghost get mad at me if I stole his candle?" he laughed, walking towards the manor.
"Wait, you're not serious about that, are you?" asked the blue furred one.
"Yeah, I'm dead serious!" he jumped in through the fallen door.
The place seemed even more destroyed and old inside than it did outside. There were cobwebs and dust all over and lots of ruined furniture, but Brinner managed to carefully make his way though all of the clutter to reach the stairs. The stairs creaked and a couple of them broke under his eager pace, but nothing seemed much scary for him. Once on the second floor, he noticed much of the floor was missing, so he had to walk slowly and cautiously. Since the manor was pretty large, there was a long corridor full of doors, but Brinner didn't have much trouble finding the right room. The door opened with a sinister moan, revealing a torn room, completely empty, aside from a single bedside table and the candle on top of it.
"This was so easy," he thought, calmly walking towards it.
But at the moment he touched the candle's plate with his beak, he heard a low and distant screech, followed by the door slamming shut behind him, making him jump in fright.
"It's just the wind, I guess," Brinner thought, picking up the candle and then opening the door with his paw. But as he walked out of the room, a small piece of paper drifting with the wind hit his ear and scared him for real, making him drop the candle through a hole in the wooden floor. Brinner raced down the stairs to catch it, but he couldn't find it. He even peeked through the holes on the floor, but he could see no sign of it. But as he was giving up and walking to the exit, a bit of the ceiling collapsed over him. It was a pile of flaming books, that were apparently hidden on a secret opening in the floor, right where the candle fell in. He was lucky enough to avoid most of it, but his tail still caught on fire and he darted though the entrance door back outside.
He could get rid of the fire before the burns were too serious, but most of his tail's fur had been scorched.
"Whoa, what happened in there? Are you alright?" asked the blue parrapup. Brinner explained and the green parrapup said "It was the ghost, dude! It wanted to burn you alive!" They all laughed and then walked back home. Brinner told everyone he had an accident with a campfire, but not everyone seemed to believe it.
The strangest thing is that his fur never grew back, even though his skin wasn't burned too hard. That made him wonder. What if... what if there really was something spooky about that candle? But now, with the whole manor burnt down, nobody would ever be able to know...
(Sorry for the lengthy story... But that tail! I just had to write up something!)
