A male ceiral saunters in. He blocks the blinding light filtering in from the outside. An ancient door glides back to it's regular position, closed. Beyond the walls of this dark and dank bar, the sun steadily bakes everything outdoors, pushing sensible (or not so sensible) creatures indoors, preferably for a cool drink. Seeing a female of his own specie sitting quiet alone, he inconspicuously checks her out.
With a simple, white v-neck shirt, leather jacket and jeans, she blends in particularly well with the small crowd, except for the fact that she is an attractive female. Her purpose in the bar, appears mainly to be to disregard everyone else, and to remain in her own thoughts. This hormonal male however, wasn't about to let that happen.
"Hi."
Dove looks up. Quiet uninvited, a overly confident male takes the seat opposing her.
"Uh, hello."
She picks up her vanilla coke, condensation pleasantly wetting her paws, and continues people watching.
She would not encourage this young man. If he was bold enough to try to chat her up, she wasn't going to help him.
The other ceiral was studying her, this Dove wasn't oblivious to.
"May I ask.. what happened to your tail?"
He said this with slight caution, wondering if this subject was too deep for her to recollect to a stranger.
Dove's eyes snapped across the slightly dusty table, and back to his.
"Do you really want to know?"
"If you don't object to telling me."
"It's rather long."
He sat back and looked at her expectantly.
"Okay. It all started with my mistake."
She almost laughed.
"But isn't that how most stories begin?"
As she told the story, she didn't pay particular attention to her words.
Dove nearly zoned out the entire room as she remembered last winter.
As fall ended last year, a new learning period of Dove's life began. She started hanging out a lot with one of her best friends from the university. He was a easy-going ceiral, which is a helpful trait when trying to befriend Dove. His name was Jared. Most of his friends however, were not like Dove. Sure, she can be a little hostile at times, and maybe try to avoid someone for a day or two (if they were annoying her too much, that is), but this group was different. They acted foolish on a regular basis, yes, even more foolhardy that regular college students. They were a crowd that never apologized if they were wrong, because they never thought they were. Because she was the newest member of this clique, most of them looked down on Dove. She, being very observant, noticed, but never mentioned this for Jared's sake. She fit in rather well with the group. The only thing they had against her was the fact that she was new. One day, quiet a few of the group planned to "test" her.
A cascade of speeding rain droplets stopped the heavy metal concert short, and the group headed back to their vehicles. Some more vulgar members of the group were making it clear how infuriated they were at their bad luck.
Jared and Dove were of course ridding together.
"Hey, Jared, you mind if I go back for a min? I left my scarf where we were."
Jared shrugged, clearly doubting whether of not it would be possible to find it.
"Thanks dude" She grinned, "I'll be back as fast as I can"
The rain kept coming.
Dove trudged back to the gravel parking area, her shoes sopping because they weren't adequate enough to keep water out. Her drenched scarf didn't bother her, since she was already soaked herself. She walked onto the gravel space, which was almost completely empty except for their group. Oddly, most of them had decided to hang around and wait for some reason.
"I got it!" she shouted wearily at Jared over the din of the rain.
"Sorry it took so long! I-" She cut her sentence short.
A black and yellow stripped motorcycle threw its light beams on Dove, momentarily blinding her.
"Hey?! What are you- AGGGH!"
Searing pain shot through her body, as she lie on the freezing prickly gravel.
"Wha-"
Dove grabbed her tail, and felt another excruciating wave of agony.
"No, no- Jared!!"
Her dark pink paw pads were covered in shining, sticky blood.
"Hey, hey, calm down, it's just a tail!"
"Just- what?!?!"
"Here ah- just use your scarf, stop the bleeding"
"WHAT"
The sky rumbled, the rain played its hypnotizing taboo, and gravel skidded everywhere,
as every car except Jared's sped away.
Present day Dove went back to sipping her Vanilla Coke, lost in memories.
"This is the same bar we used to hang out in back then" She remarked.
Her companion uttered a simple- "Oh."
A short period of silence ensued.
"I think I should go. It was nice meeting you, Dove."
He abruptly departed.
"Hey," she called "I never got your name."
His retreating figure appeared not to notice.
Dove frowned. She twisted the can of soda inside her paws, almost bending it
I never told him my name was Dove
Outside, the young male ceiral who had hoped to get the beautiful Dove's number hastily retreated.
That was close.
He put on his dark helmet and dropped the shaded face guard, and immediately drove away.
His black and yellow motorcycle could even be heard inside the bar, where Dove sat,
delving into the absurdity of his behavior
Everything by me, Trice.
I hope this isn't too long <3
