Political delaying tactic: a tactic used to delay or prevent the passage of legislation
Gender:
Male
Short Personality:
- Filibuster is very quiet, for the most part, and keeps to himself. He's quite shy, and doesn't speak very often. When he does manage to speak up about something, it's usually important. He really doesn't mince words, and counts his freedom to speak dearly. The best way to describe why he stays silent most of the time is a phrase most people have heard: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. While his comments may not be unkind, they sometimes don't add anything to the conversation at hand, so he usually decides to bite his tongue and stay quiet.
- Filibuster is very intelligent, and is known for his work in his government. While he doesn't talk a lot in his personal life, when he's at work he tends to open up and become more impassioned about things. He's even been known to do what he was named after - filibuster! He really does love befuddling the other members of his committee, especially if he's trying to befuddle them enough to get them to pass a bill he's fervent about. He does VERY well with legal jargon, and often will help other members of his committee write up bills and acts for the entire committee to go over at a later date.
- Filibuster loves to write, be it fiction, nonfiction, or bills and acts. He greatly enjoys writing pretty much anything. Due to his introverted nature, he doesn't have very many friends, and thus has more time to devote to his writing. The bills and acts he creates he tends to submit to his committee to try to pass up to the Congress level, and because he argues his points well, they usually do make it up to the Senate, or at least the House of Representatives. With his fictional and nonfictional writing he tends to be more secretive, and doesn't show practically anyone his stories. He hopes, one day, to become a well-known author, but knows that to do that, he'd have to be a little more lenient with whom he lets read his stories.
- Filibuster is quite friendly, if you get to know him. He's open to making new friends, if they can get past his hard outer shell and cold demeanor. Sometimes, when others try to talk to him, he simply nods or shakes his head, as he doesn't really like talking to those whom he isn't familiar with. When he's with his closest friends, however, he can be seen laughing and having a great time! He just doesn't do so well in other social situations due to his introverted personality.
- Filibuster is very kind and caring. He is GREAT with children, and often will take time out of his day to spend a couple hours working at day care centers or other places where young children are present. He loves seeing their eyes light up when he tells a story, or helping them stand back up after they fall. He's very compassionate and this side of him comes out when he's around kids. He also tends to be more talkative and social when he's around little ones.

Personal Interview
Why does your demeanor change when you're around the little ones?
"The children won't judge me for who I am. They just know I'm a friend, and that's all they care about. There's no mudslinging or political slander involved. They don't have a worry, care, or fret in the world. They just care about making friends - and if they don't have any, I'm the one that goes over and gives them at least one. I should, actually, expand upon my initial statement. Children DO judge. If you ask them if your outfit looks nice, they'll tell you the honest truth, no filters involved. This can be good, if you want an honest opinion and not a sugar-coated one. However, females may take certain comments children make as...insulting. I'm getting off topic, though. Like I was saying, children do judge. They just don't judge the same things adults do. Adults will pick at you for being in the government. They'll stab you in the back without batting an eye, given enough motive and a good chance. They are vicious sharks, ready to attack at any given moment. Some are nice, this is true - I have friends whom I trust dearly. However, most that I've come in contact with are mean, nasty, and cruel...and I suppose that's why I don't socialize well. I can never quite forget my opinions about others, you see."
You feel more comfortable around children?
"I suppose so. I also feel quiet comfortable around my friends."
We often hear about your friends, but you rarely mention your family. Why is this?
"My mother died when I was a child. My father and I became estranged after he disowned me. Being an only child, I had no siblings to help cope with the loss of both my parents, so I turned to politics."
Why did he disown you?
"I have always enjoyed cartoons."
How in the world did you ever watch them? TVs aren't exactly rampant in the woods, you know.
"I found an old TV set that someone had abandoned in the middle of our tundra home. I don't live in the forest, actually, hence the long fur."
Right. My mistake. Anyways, why did your father disown you? Was it related to the TV?
"Upon the time of my disowning, I had recently gotten into Japanese anime shows, and...well, my father disapproved of my choice to watch them. He destroyed the TV. When I searched about and managed to find the parts to fix it, well...he destroyed it again, and kicked me out. Later, I received a letter stating that I'd been disowned and that he never wanted to see my 'sorry, ugly face' again."
That sounds awful!
"I was never close to my father, so I didn't mind all that much."
How did he contact you by letter if you didn't have a place of residence?
"After I was kicked out, I moved in with my friend, Idris. She lived in the city in an apartment with her owner, who really wasn't there all that often. Like, her owner never even VISITED her while I was there."
Oh, a GIRL Ceiral?
"She's just my best friend, okay?"
Okay, okay. I'm sure you've gotten your fair share of grief about that.
"Yes, I have. Are we done here, or do you have more snarky comments about my personal life and whom I choose to associate myself with?"
We're not quite done yet, but we're getting close.
"Then I must ask that you keep your snide comments to yourself, or I shall remove myself from the premises, and in doing such, abruptly end this interview."
Understood.
"Next question?"
Right. Now, you stated you went to live with your friend. Did you ever mention to anyone else you were living there?
"No, I never did. I only ever told Idris, and that's solely because she asked me, 'What the heck are you DOING here?!' since I'd not seen her for a VERY long time. After I explained my predicament, she gladly let me into her home. She cooks quite well, and we soon made up arrangements for who would pay for what, and how we'd split up the rent and other household chores. Overall, it was a great life I lived, back then. Idiris bought groceries and cooked, I did laundry...we both did our fair share of the work, and split the rent right down the middle. Seeing that we both had jobs - Idris worked with people from Britain, and I worked at a local school with the younger children as a substitute teacher - we never were late for the rent."
How did you father find out where you were located if you never told anyone other than Idris about your living situation?
"I honestly don't have a clue. I don't know how my father did it, but I honestly couldn't care less. He DISOWNED me, for goodness sake! Why SHOULD I care how the guy found me? All that matters is that he didn't come AFTER me and my friend. He's left both of us alone now for years, and I expect it to stay that way for the rest of my life."
Isn't that...lonely? Perhaps depressing?
"Why would it be? He's just one other being who doesn't like me. When you're in politics, you quickly find out there are people who'd give their lives for you...and then there are other people who'd like to take your life from you. Every being is either your friend or your foe - and the quicker you learn what side they reside on, the better. My father is my foe, not my friend. Idris is my closest and only true friend. The reason I say that is simple: she's stuck with me in good times and in bad. Others who CALL themselvesmy friends, truly aren't - they left when the going got rough. I have many associates and quite a few foes...but only one friend."
Idris means a lot to you, doesn't she?
"She's my best friend. Why WOULDN'T she mean a lot to me?"
Well, I think that's all we have time for, today. Thank you very much for speaking with us, Filibuster. Good luck in the upcoming election.
"Thank you."
