Story:
Gentle moonlight pierced through the thin covering of wisp-like clouds, bathing the knee-high grass a delicate surge of waving silver. Tall, elegant willow trees bent down until their slender leaves stroked the grass blades, whispering and murmuring words of kindness into the cool night air.
A swishing noise sounded at the far end of the shimmering clearing, and out of the glimmering trees stepped an equine. Her brown pelt stood out starkly against the silver world, but her surroundings only added to her beauty. Her lavender eyes sparkled and glowed as she gazed, slightly dazed, around her.
Stepping forward on delicate hooves, she paced along the ground, her steps so light that she barely flattened the blades of grass at her touch. Passing under the willow trees, the soft leaves stroked across her silky fur, whispering and calling words of encouragment and light to her.
In a small flash of silver, a brilliant golden butterfly appeared from behind an oak and flitted it's way across the moon-bathed clearing to the eqine. It fluttered it's wings, allowing them to catch the light and send beams of blueish light soaring across the clearing. Soon, more and more of the beautiful creatures appeared from the forest. They swirled and soared on their tiny, yet powerful wings, with as much magesty as if they were little eagles. They swooped around the equine's delicate neck and around her forelegs. Reaching up with her soft muzzle, she allowed one of the small creatures to land on her nose. She gazed wonderingly at it as a soft grey aura shone around it's wings. As soon as it had arrived though, it took to the air once more, and fluttered dreamily away.
The equine, Kanti, watched as the rest of the butterflies followed it in a flash of silver, before continuing through the meadow.
Presently, she arrived at a small brook. It gurgled and splashed merrily, it's crystal blue waters reflecting the stars above. Dipping her head, her mane falling around her cheeks, she took great gulps of the water, feeling the soothing coolness slide down her throat.
Suddenly though, the magesty of the dream world fell dark.
The wispering of the grasses fell silent, and the murmuring of the willows ceased.
A dark smoke began to pour from the surrounding trees.
Kanti lifted her muzzle from the water and snorted in surprise, water droplets trickling down from her face as she gazed in suspicion at the strange appearance of the smog. Flattening her ears, she spread her hooves apart and lowered her head. Narrowing her eyes, she lashed her tail back and forth, aggression clear on her face. She had suddenly realized who this was.
Soon, the smoke cleared away. Standing in it's place was a creature. It looked like a deer, but Kanti knew that it was not.
For one thing, this creature was massive; much taller than Kanti. It's pelt was a deep copper, and under the sleek fur, powerful muscles rippled and flexed as it pawed gouges in the earth with black, jagged hooves. It's eyes were a fiery amber, and smoke billowed out of it's nostrils as it lashed it's long, whip-like tail. Opening it's mouth, it bared strange, canine teeth, and it shook it's head slowly back and forth, displaying it's sharp, dagger-like horns.
This was not your average deer.
And suddenly, this dream had transformed into a nightmare.
Kanti stood her ground and faced the beast, but she knew that she would stand no chance against it. Rearing up and waving her forelegs in the air, she turned tail and ran. Her hooves pounded on the ground, just as hard as her heart was beating, but right behind her, she could hear the steady thump of the creature. Soon, she stumbled over a stone, and she could feel its hot, rancid breath on her back. Finally, she fell headlong into the grass, and looking up, she found herself staring right into the burning face of the beast. It's eyes glowered down at her, triumphant, smug, and it lunged, ready to bare down on top of her...
Kanti woke with a jolt. She shook her head wildly, thrashing out in desperation, before coming to, and realizing that it was all a dream. She let herself relax and felt her muscles loosen as realization dawned on her. She flicked her ears, glad that it was over.
She sighed in relief and curled into a more snug position.
"Next time," she told herself. "I won't eat so many raspberries before bed."
The End.
