Deerssert's Name:
Eliana, which means "God Has Answered" in Hebrew.
Personality:
You'd think that Eliana would be very outspoken and loud-mouthed, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Eliana is very quiet, and rarely speaks her mind. This is mostly due to the fact that her parents never wanted her around - they simply ignored her most of the time. She may be one of the prettiest deer you've ever seen, but her parents thought nothing of her. Because of this, Eliana wasn't confident as a fawn, and she only learned to be confident later in life. Eliana is a very sad girl, but you'd never guess that just by looking at her - she's very good at keeping her emotions to herself, and rarely cries in front of another being. When she's very upset, she'll distance herself from others, curl up in a ball, and cry herself to sleep. Sleep is the one state where Eliana doesn't have to worry about anything - she rarely ever dreams, and doesn't have to be concerned with getting nightmares. Eliana doesn't like being in the spotlight - she dislikes a lot of attention, and hates causing a scene. Eliana holds wisdom in high regard - she is intelligent, but not very book-smart; she's more street-smart, and can often find nifty ways of living that most wouldn't be able to fathom. Eliana loves helping others - she once stated, "Just because I had a hard life doesn't mean someone else has to. I'll give 100% towards helping anyone I can...because no one needs to go through what I did." At first glance Eliana can seem very shy and silent; most beings don't like staying around her. She does have her faults, but if you give her a chance, she's the sweetest friend you'll ever have.
Backstory:
Eliana started off life as an only child. Her parents did love her, but they rarely spoke to her. There always seemed to be something missing from Eliana's life...she would cry, and her parents never comforted her. She would beg for attention, and her parents would swat her away. Eliana soon gave up crying, and became hard and cold. She acted out, trying every last thing to get her parents to look at her. She broke vases, she climbed the walls - she once ate an entire container of raw cookie dough! But still, nothing she did was good enough for her parents' attention. She was vocal about this at first, often yelling at her parents to listen to her, or at least glance her way every now and then. But her parents continued to ignore their daughter.
Then, Eliana's sister was born - "the true and proper princess," according to her parents. Her parents fell in love with their new baby, giving her all the finest comforts that they could...but in doing this, they pushed Eliana farther and farther away. One day, when two very important Deersserts had decided to visit, Eliana's parents ordered her to stay in her room. Eliana refused, stating, "I know my sister is just a fawn, but if she can stay out here and meet the two new deer, then why can't I?"
Her parents didn't answer her, but instead picked up Eliana's younger sister and brought her out to meet the officials.
Eliana protested, trotting out behind them and yelling, "I'M A PRINCESS TOO! IN FACT, I'M OLDER THAN MY SISTER!"
Her parents finally reacted to Eliana's outburst - they kicked her out.
Over the years, Eliana learned to cope with her new life. She decided she'd be more careful with her words in times to come - she didn't want to get in trouble again. She also promised herself she'd be more understanding of others, and that she'd try to be a better deer than she had been. She felt no need to act out - her parents didn't want her, and now that Eliana knew that, she could begin living a different life. Eliana still yearned for her parents to take her back in, but she knew they wouldn't accept her back. For the first couple years on her own, Eliana scraped and saved up enough money to buy the one thing she'd wanted for her entire life - a magenta cloak. She wore it from then on, never taking it off. It protected her against the cold, harsh winter winds, and kept her warm on the chilly nights. In summer she would roll it up and use it as a pillow; and in spring she'd use it as a basket, carrying the food and money she earned from her various jobs to and from the shops where she'd spend the money and trade or eat the food. In autumn, when the weather got chilly once again, she'd use it as a blanket or as a normal cloak, keeping the icy wind from biting into her cheeks and whipping around her hair (which she braided every morning).
Winter was never Eliana's favorite season - Eliana was partial to autumn, instead. She loved seeing the beautiful trees drop their colorful leaves, and she enjoyed the crisp air and the smell of cinnamon that hung over the shops in the town square where she visited every couple weeks to get groceries and the like. In her mind, Eliana would often remark at how wonderful autumn was - it was a time of renewal, a time of staring fresh. Around this time every year, Eliana would be happier, and wouldn't feel quite so sad...but something was always missing. Eliana could never quite put her hoof on it, but she knew that something had been missing from her life since she was a child...she just couldn't figure out what it was.
After finding a job she loved doing, she earned up enough money for her own place. She bought a small cottage surrounded by evergreen trees the very color of her eyes. She found that she loved nature, and spent most of her time outdoors, picking pinecones and learning how to make them edible when she had nothing else to eat. She kept working, and continued to save up money, eventually buying boots for all four of her legs. She then bought more warm clothing, and sometimes splurged on sweet caramel candies and chocolates. She lived by herself, working at jobs she adored doing - she often sang and got paid well for doing it. She also enjoyed making things, like arts and crafts, particularly with items from trees like sap, pine cones, and pine needles. She'd then sell these things for quite a hefty profit. The more she created the better she became at it. The more she succeeded in life, the more confidence she acquired. Even though Eliana lived alone, she had more confidence than most beings in the town she walked to every couple days for her jobs - she soon learned to speak her mind, becoming less and less anti-social as the years passed. She was never quite so outspoken as she was when she was a fawn, but she learned that staying silent isn't always the best option, and there are times when it's in your best interest to speak your mind. Eliana finally learned what it was she was missing: love. The small town she worked in every day allowed her to start to love again, as most of the jobs she had involved meeting with others and helping them out.
While Eliana still doesn't like to be the center of attention, she often will go out of her way to help others - she's very kind and caring. Eliana often wishes she'd meet up with her sister again, as she misses her very much. Even though most would assume Eliana would blame her sister for her troubles, Eliana doesn't - she realizes that it was her parents' choice to kick her out, and her sister is not to be blamed. Eliana only feels happiness towards her sister - she longs to see her once again, but knows that the probability of such an event is highly unlikely...but in the meantime, Eliana keeps her spirits and hopes up, smiling and learning something new every day.
