Why does he seem so dark?: Simply because he is dark. Loki had nothing that happened in his childhood to have caused this, it just developed on his own. He enjoys it though, feeling as though it's the true evil him. He's not exactly evil like that though, more just enclosed and quiet, keeping to himself and not really liking others around him. That's how he basically has such a dark appearance yet the power of light, because light is hidden inside of him but the darkness is all he chooses to show.
