Short Story:
A Nighttime Test...
A Night of Death...
Comes To All Who seek It...
The darkness creeped in from all around and the moon was bright in the sky. The stars were nowhere to be seen and the crows cawed into the sky. Death could be felt in the air if you searched for it, but the the unknowing souls it was just a faint whisper, a whisper they push into the back of their heads and ignore it till the news of ones loss is spread from place to place.
I had been hired to kill a man of good fortune, they offered me a hefty sum to take this man's life, and I was going to finish this mission like any true assassin would. I had trained myself for this first mission and I was not going to fail, if I failed now, no one would ever take me on for work, or hire me ever again. I would be a failure. I ran across the room tops, silently and swift, doing my best not to stumble, but sometimes slid a bit on the uneven rooftops of the city. I dodged chimneys and slid along roofs, making my way to where I was told the target would be this night.
I peeked into the window at my target, he sat by a cozy fire in a fancy chair, eating biscuits and drinking tea. He was oblivious as to what was about to come. I snuck around the house and in through an open window. The room I walked into looked like a guest room that hadn't been used in a while. It was dusty, but very nice and vintage. The wood was all a nice red oak and had delicate and detailed carvings on them. This man defiantly looked rich.
I made my way out of the room and into the next, sneaking up behind the large armchair, I lifted my dagger. It was a stupid mission, but I was being paid a lot to do so. I lifted it higher in my jaw and brought it down, ripping it through the leathery flesh of the chair. Yes, I had been paid to destroy the fancy chair, unsure why, but hey, it meant shiny money and jewels. I tore up the chair, tearing it's flesh to shreds, before sneaking out the window nearby.
I slipped into the night, my path over the roofs only lit by faint glow of the full moon. I smiled at the thought of all the shiny coins and jewels I would gain from this, all the coins and jewels I would get for destroying a chair, as I made my way back to where my customer said he would wait for me with my prize.
