*Personality: Gypsy is a fun loving shy mare. She loves to play with foals but is nervous around adults. She is very protective and will protect her friends, family, and loved ones even if it costs her her own life.
*Story: Gypsy was born into a small herd with loving parents. The rest of the herd however didn't like her and made sure she knew it. When she was a year old she left because she couldn't take it anymore. A year later she found a herd and has been living happily with that herd ever since.
*Likes: Gypsy likes to dance, play with foals and her stallion.
*Dislikes: Gypsy dislikes snakes, spiders, scorpions and thos who would hurt foals.

Esperanza is a creative, hopeful, spirited mare with lots of kindness and gentleness. Strong of heart and of will, she is a determined mare who will do anything for her friends. She is very loyal and fearless, willing to do anything for her friends. Esperanza is a mare with a good sense of humor, and she is always fun to hang out with. However, she is also extremely stubborn.



(This will be a short story from when she was about 2 years old, told from her perspective c:)

I walked along the side of the river. My herd was grazing contentedly nearby; I had nothing to fear. I was at home, safe, with my family, and next to the river. But in me today I felt a new restlessness. I wanted to go swimming! The river had thawed completely for the first time since winter had started. Now that spring had set in, however, I could finally fly in the waters I knew so well.
I stepped in gingerly; the water was bitterly cold. It took me long moments to get just my legs adjusted to the freezing temperature, and almost a whole hour to get my entire body in. But when I did…there is nothing like swimming. It is flying in an icy sky; it is running on a groundless earth. The river is my passion, my story, my life.
You see, when I say my herd, I don’t mean that they are actually my family. When I was born, my mother was so weak she could not care for me. Her name was Sueno Rio—Dream River. I will always remember that, for it is the first thing she told me. It was also the only thing, for she knew only one thing that could protect me better than she could; she was exhausted and clearly dying. Even I, at my spectacularly young age, knew that. And I also knew of the thing, the place of which she spoke; I am beginning to suspect you do too…it was the river.
When she gave me up to the river, my life turned upside-down. Quite literally! I had fallen onto a part of the river simply known as ‘The Rapids’, because it is as such. I very nearly died as well flailing in that mighty current, and just when I thought it might be over, that my life might end, the river did the one thing I did not expect—it calmed. The waves disappeared, a gentle current taking their place. It held me up to the surface, the cool, almost-warm water lapping around, fawning at me, and soothing my gashes. When I finally felt able to stand, for it was in a very shallow place, I must have been a sight. My blue-hued coat, emerald eyes, brown, ruddy hooves, and white zigzags on my face, neck and legs…I am sure now I must have looked like a creature born of the river, born from the muddy river floor, the foam from the eddies, the flashes of light dancing across the surface of the water. I wandered for several days, crying out, steadily weakening from hunger, until for the second time in my life I believed my death might be soon. But one thing, one thing I did, I will always believe kept me going—despite my wandering, I stayed close to the river.
Finally, of course, I was found. Not even a month old, abandoned—or so it would seem. But I had been far from abandoned. You have heard that you will die sooner of thirst than hunger? It is true. And the river supplied me plenty of hydration. It kept me safe from the huge mosquitoes that bombarded my coat, kept me warm in the cold nights. Once I was found—by the lead stallion of my new herd—he knew I was special. I am special. That much is definitely true.
As soon as I was old enough to speak, I began to insist that we always stay near the river. The lead stallion, who had adopted me as his own favorite daughter, had naturally agreed. I am always tied to the river. I don’t know why, or how. If only my mother had been around longer, told me more of her history, her past. But I have learned plenty since then, and I can fend enough for myself now. Someday, someday soon, perhaps I will leave this herd for a better life, a lifetime of searching to find my destiny…




Esperanza likes storms, rain, rivers, swimming, and most anything to do with water. She also loves telling and making stories. One of her favorite things is inventing legends having to do with water. Another thing she likes is running around and playing with her friends.




Esperanza hates birds- not little things like blackbirds and finches, but big things; eagles, vultures, etc. She also hates dark forests, or forests with bare-limbed trees. It makes her nervous and wary of woods.

*Personality:
Pidge is very bright, with lots of energy and helpfulness. Yet she doesn't talk; being mute from birth. Sometimes she manages to give out noises that are recognizable as words, but she only does it with a lot of effort, and Pidge rarely bothers. She has a small opinion of others, and even though she's always willing to help them out, she rarely holds a lot of respect for anyone. She tags along with her herd-members sometimes, and she's determined with a stubborn streak. Pidge gets sarcasm and undercurrents in conversations very well, and is herself good at pointing out irony; not that it's a good trait, mind you.

Pidge can be bratty, but only when she wants to be. She's a good actor, being very childish on the outside but with a strange sense of maturity inside. Yet she also have certain child-like elements despite how she's grown-up. She's very quiet, and her face is almost motionless a lot of the time. But she isn't afraid to slip her mask off at times; then she's eye-rolling, mouthing along, and miming away, then smirking with satisfaction at her ability to crack others up.

Life is a joke- and Pidge gets it.

*Story:

A dewdrop slip off the high leaf, flying towards the ground and then bursting.

A second, silent shadow followed the two mares as they walked through the dark, dusk-ridden forest. Faint rays of light lit up patches of mist, revealing their eerie dance. One could almost fancy seeing vapors rise from the ground. Covered in the shroud of night, one could not even make out their next step if they stood under a canopy of trees, and the mists had already claimed every patch of light. The three beings, as if on some unspoken cue, suddenly stopped.

"I don't fancy working in this tomorrow." admitted Aiofe mildly, observing the tendrils of darknesses and the towering shapes of thin, tall, spindly trees.

Pidge snorted, tossing her head up and rolling her eyes up as if beseeching the heavens.

"Well, alls well that ends well. I suppose." stated Arela, whipping her tail back and forth, smacking Pidge with it. "Don't be a drama queen, Pidge."

The tiny equine plopped down, looking at her friend with wide, innocent eyes. Aiofe chuckled. Pidge grinned, getting up. Her face suddenly took on a sly expression.

"Deennnk iz baaa ow?" The equine managed, then drew a quick sun in the dirt with three, swift movements. She nodded her head at the sun, and looked up for a second at her friends to make sure they were following. Then she indicated the darkness around them, glanced up again, and shook her head. She indicated the sun again, and forced out another word. "Fhog."

Both her friends took on looks of dismay. Arela sighed. "I don't even know which is worse."

Aiofe forced a smile. "They should name this the forest Place Where All are Blind." she suggested, her pretty multi-colored eyes twinkling.
Pidge smiled at Aiofe.

"Day or night." muttered Arela under her breath. Both her friends smirked.

Aiofe gazed around. "What are we doing here tomorrow anyway?"

Pidge sighed in exasperation at the path back. Arela also looked irritated. "Some genius at the herd thought he saw a jaguar. So now we have to be prepared to use this place as an escape route." The mare rolled her eyes. "Gunner thinks that the little colt just saw a passing snake or maybe equine, and so do I, but of course, where's the logic?" Arela gave a huge, exasperated sigh. "So now we're stuck here."

Aiofe frowned, narrowing her eyes. "Is there a chance of jaguar?"

Pidge shook her head, but Arela frowned at her. "Of course there is, Pidge. We went together to the sight, but the fact there was no smell of jaguar of jaguar fur doesn't mean anything. It's been raining-"

Pidge suddenly began nodding her head violently. She lifted up her hoof dramatically, then pressed it deeply into the ground, still wet from the showers.

Aiofe, who had been watching Pidge carefully, startled. "Oh! That's true. So, there weren't any jaguar tracks, right? That's why you're so sure, Pidge!"

Arela frowned, tossing her mane and looking at Pidge slightly puzzled but thoughtful.

Birds; the smaller the better. She sort-of thinks of the bigger species as bullies. There are many exceptions, however; for instance owls.
