The young Kiamara children crowded around the Elderly Kia, eager to meet such a relic. They were not interested in his wisdom, but knew that he had many stories he could share with them. And so they asked him, “How is it that you’ve become so old?”
"These orbs around my neck..." the elderly Shaman spoke slowly, as he indicated to the orbs resting on his chest, "and on my tail..." he flicked his tail across the ground, causing the orbs there to make a humming sound, as they clattered together and scraped the ground, "are the reason for my long life." He cleared his throat and blinked, though his eyes could not see the young Kiamara children whose faces shined with curiosity. He continued, "It was a long time ago, long before I had gone blind. My mate and I had always craved adventure, especially in our younger days. When we were older, and more responsible, we decided to go out in search of items that we had heard grand tales of. There were many items we hoped to one day find, but one in particular became our goal.”
The Kiamara hesitated, calculating his pause to add emphasis to his following words. The old Kiamara sighed, his unseeing eyes showing sorrow as he began to remember the past, “The item was not a single object, but rather eight. These objects, called the 'Orbs of Life' allowed their wearer, or wearers, to live eternally, so long as the orbs themselves were never removed. Once removed, the orbs would no longer effectively protect the body of their owner, and the owner would age quickly to their natural age.” With his powerful intuition, and general knowledge of children, Hiamovi knew that his story thus far seemed grand and mysterious to his young listeners. Suddenly, his voice became loud and commanding, “Of course, our pursuits were just for fun, neither of us having imagined that these things actually existed. Had we know them to be true objects, perhaps we would have reconsidered our passion.” The male’s voice dropped, and returned to its melodic and calm state, “You all would do well to not follow the example we set."
Again raising his voice, if hopes of making sure that none of the children went on any such similarly foolish and dangerous trek as he and his mate, he spoke again, "Our journey was long and hard. Often times we were cold and starving.” His unseeing eyes passed along the line of children before him, “Food does not grow as lush throughout the world as it does here. It was not an enjoyable experience.”
Hiamovi let his head lower, and continued on with his narrative. "We sought after these items for the one true goal our hearts desired, to be with each other forever." Sadness was visible through the Shaman's cloudy eyes, but he continued his story. "These orbs were said to be in a cave that sat in the top of a mountain. We were so anxious to begin our adventure, we did not bother to say good-bye to anyone, and we simply set off on our own. This is what I regret the most, in actuality. It was a long journey; the mountain that the storytellers spoke of was a great distance from where we lived. Reaching the top was even more challenging. Our paws slipped on the icy coat of the mountain, and our fur froze. Even after we had entered the hidden cave at the top, it was still cold. Huddling together for warmth, we stayed the night.”
Hiamovi's eyes seemed to tear up as he narrated, but he refused to let them flow over onto his cheeks. He continued his tale, "We awoke before the sun had the time to reach us, up at the mountains peak, and continued further into the darkness of the cave. We were within the darkness for almost a full day, until we came across the lights of the glowing orbs. They were unguarded, and we eagerly picked them up. Splitting the eight orbs amongst ourselves, we soon felt young and alive, as we had never felt before. It was so uplifting to our spirits, we had forgotten to be cautious. On our way out of the cave, we were unkindly greeted with a vicious noise. It spooked us out of our delirium, but before I had the chance to step in front of my beloved...a bear..." Hiamovi’s voice began to fade, as the story became too painful for him to continue.
The young Kiamara in front of Hiamovi look up at him with a questioning expression on their faces, some not quite understanding what was happening, others hoping he'd continue. Of course, since Hiamovi knew they were still there, he was devoted to finishing his story, regardless of the pain it brought him, "As you know, in our species, we find our one true love, and then that is it. We are completely dedicated to that other half of us for the rest of our lives, and will never find a replacement. I was a very determined male in my younger days. I sought after the most beautiful female, who turned me down again and again. I never gave up, though. I was too determined to have her as my partner to let a few rejections stop me; she was the only one I could possibly see myself with. I was right in my belief, and after wearing her down, she allowed me to prove myself worthy.”
A smile graces the wrinkled face of the old Kiamara, and he continued the story of his love, “I did anything for her, whatever would make her happy. My dear sweetheart had such a passion, of learning things, of opportunities, and of life itself.” His smile fades, as he returns to the events of the mountain, “All of these things were taken from her within moments. This bear had caught us completely off guard, and took away something I had treasured more than what we had spent so much time pursuing. My one true love was snatched up in the beast’s paws, the orbs thrown away from her, across the cave, and she lay motionless. The size and strength of this bear was unbelievable. My dearest was scooped up so quickly, it must have been her neck that snapped, but I had no time to react.

"After he let go of my love, something snapped in me that had never before. The way he had just careless tossed her aside, as if she was nothing. I have never felt the way I did in that moment. The only one I could see sharing my future with had been treated like waste. I had never moved faster, never been stronger, and never been so angry. Before I had any time to reach this massive bear, his paw came down on my face, leaving these horrible, raised lines along my snout. I felt nothing, so pumped with adrenaline, that pain was not even a barrier to me. Going around his paw that slammed the ground, I charged at him. I completely black out at this point in anger. It is sad to admit that I had become that angry, it is not in my character. Once coming to my senses though, I looked around me and saw a horrible sight. It is something I could not sit here and describe to you young ones in detail, but believe me when I say, it is something I regret to this day. Taking the life of a creature that had itself probably felt endangered brought me no feeling of peace, or revenge. It left within me only a deep scar, a scar that showed me just what I am capable of.”

I haven't seen colors in such a long time, I think I have forgotten their hues. I would imagine it to be green, like the grassy ground we are on now.
ºWhat’s your favorite food?
Berries are something I enjoy the most. They are so tender and naturally sweet.
ºWhat’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?
Scariest? It would have to be going off on the adventure I went with my mate to go get these orbs...that, was scary.
ºWhat accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am proud to be the soul that I am today. I get to help so many others and that means a lot to me, to be important to others.
ºHow did you meet your spouse / girlfriend?
Ha! We grew up together. I use to shove her face in mud, and put spiders in her hair when we were cubs. When we matured, it was then when I realized that she was the only one I could see myself growing old with.
ºDo you like to travel?
When I was a lot younger, I enjoyed adventures, but now that I am older, I have realized that nothing beats the comfort of home.
ºIf someone asked you to give them a random piece of advice, what would you say?
To treasure every single moment you have. Enjoy the things that you have with you now, and be grateful for things when their gone.
ºDo you like to plan things out in detail or be spontaneous?
If I had the choice, I would prefer for things to be planned out, rather than happen without any knowledge.
