Whelkon Name: Mahogany (short for: Mahoganorie)
Short Story: Mahogany loved the trees, they were everywhere in his beautiful home. They were the kings of all as the towered above his head, their endless branches stretching to the bottomless sky. Mahogany breathed in the sweet smelling, humid air; he could smell the mice scurrying under the brush, he could smell the hungry lynx hoping to stumble upon a rabbit, and he could smell... the humans. Mahogany flinched as their unearthly smell drifted into his sensitive nose, he hated them. They had killed his father and mother, torn half his home to pieces, and their baying hounds never let him rest easy at night.
Mahogany heard a twig snap in the distance, with his nerves already panicking because of the scent, that twig snapping was all he needed to be terrified. Mahogany leaped forward and started crashing through the dense underbrush that covered the kings of the forest's roots. He could hear no other sound except the blood pounding in his ears and his harsh breathing, he ran till he could hardly breath and then and only then did he collapse into a clearing in the trees.
Mahogany slept till night fell, he opened his eyes and slowly and lurched to his feet. He looked blearily around, drowsiness still clouded his intelligent mind. Then he heard it, a voice coming through the trees, Mahogany tensed and prepared to flee, except this voice was different. This voice was not like the others, it was not urging blood thirsty hounds to find his scent, it seemed to be speaking to him." Shhh," said the voice," It's alright I won't hurt you." Mahogany could feel his muscles losing tension but he was still on the alert. The speaker stepped into the clearing, it was a young girl with shoulder length brown hair and a sweet smile, her eyes stared at him full of understanding, "They've hurt me too," she said. She was clothed in a dress made of leaves," They've also taken my home, I know how you feel," she continued, her voice soft and kind," I just want to protect you and be your friend. Please, just let me love you!" She held out her hand, Mahogany knew instantly that she was different than the others, he stepped slowly forward and pressed his nose into her palm. The Guardian had his Guardian.
Why I want this Whelkon: I want this Whelkon because not only is he beautiful but, he reminds me of one of my favorite animals, the okapi. He looks so majestic and I feel I could be his proper "Guardian". Thank you for making this awesome species.
