Diana's love for Amari started when they met. Their meeting wasn't the most smooth sailing thing in the world, but it gave Diana something to keep going as a pirate for. They met while both hunting for the same piece of treasure, a heart scale all the way out in the northern reef. Diana never thought anyone would make their way out there for a small little piece of treasure, and deemed it an easy mission with little to know competition, as that wasn't quite her cup of tea. Except, Amari had her sights on this scale too, knowing she could sell it to a milotic merchant for a hefty price. So as Diana and her crew reached the northern cove, so did Amari's. Amari, headstrong and competitive, was ready to do anything to get this scale, while Diana, laidback and easygoing, spent her time enjoying the moment and didn't have a care in the world about really finding this scale.
"I'm getting that scale, you hear me?" Amari scowled, furrowing her brows at the other brionne who was already (and quite lazily) searching the reefs floor. Diana only shrugged, "Works for me, didn't really care about the scale anyways, I just needed something to do." Amari scoffed at her response, swimming up to her furiously, "Are you insane? You're a pirate! Why aren't you acting like one?" She spat, and Diana looked up at her with raised brows, "Like that's any of your business. But y'know, if you're really all on this 'real pirate' junk, then you should probably keep up with me or I'm going to find that scale first, darling."
Diana did indeed find the scale first, winking at the furious pink brionne before tossing her the scale, telling her this adventure was fun and she looked forward to more of their little meetings. Little did Amari know, Diana had the feeling of butterflies in her chest the whole time during that treasure hunt.

Amari's love for Diana developed later than Diana's for Amari. The shiny brionne started getting those feelings after the two had merged crews and set aside their 'rivalry' (rivalry on Amari's side). Diana had been on the deck of their pirate ship, watching the sunset alone before Amari had stepped out, free of her captain duties. They didn't say much that night, but Amari remembers Diana's response to her most pondered question quite clearly.
"You know, you still never told me why you don't act like a 'real' pirate. When I questioned you during our first meeting over that stupid heart scale." Amari asked out of the blue, and Diana looked at her for a moment before sighing. "I was born into this life, and It wasn't really something I grew up enjoying. My father was the leader of his own crew and my mother..." She paused, shaking her head, "I just felt like if I didn't grow up into what my father wanted me to be, I'd have nobody left in my family who would appreciate me. I'm not competitive, I'm not a treasure hunter, I'm not loud or able to lead my own crew. I just like the ocean, I like the breeze and the pokemon, the beautiful plants and the sandy beaches." Diana responded, giving Amari a small smile, "I thought if I took on that heart scale hunt, It would pull me back into being what a pirate truly is, but in all honesty, it was you who pulled me back in. The silly rivalry we had going gave me something to look forward to because it was...different." Amari looked at her, eyes slightly going wide as Diana kept speaking, "You made me want to become the pirate I was born to be because I wasn't proving myself to anyone, I was just being me."
Amari had felt her cheeks start to heat up as Diana gave her a warm smile, and she knew that Diana was a pokemon she would want to spend the rest of her life with.
Adora wasn't allowed to like Catra. The rules of the kingdom stated that all royalty were not allowed to have any romantic affairs with the royal staff. It was the rules, the customs of the kingdom. She was reminded everyday since she was a teenager when Catra went off to guard school and while she attended her royalty classes. It wasn't until Catra actually left that she then realized she was in love with her best friend. Even though the two grew up together, and have since remained great friends as guard and princess, something felt off between them. Something felt wrong.
"Catra, what's going on with you?" Adora spoke, distress in her voice as she wandered up to her royal guard. Catra only glared at her, and Adora flinched back, hurt. Adora stepped back, lowering her gaze to the ground as Catra started wandering away from her, the light armor on her shoulders clattering with every step she took down the corridor the two girls were in.
"Catra wait!" Adora called out as soon as she heard the armor from her royal guard start to move. She ran forward, catching up with the pyroar in front of her before moving a little faster to block Catra's path, "Catra, please. What's wrong, why have you been so distant lately?" Adora pleaded, looking Catra in her mismatched eyes.
"There's nothing wrong, Adora." Catra growled, "And even if there was, I don't need to explain it to you of all people."
Adora shrunk back, ears flattening against her head as she shook her head, "We've known each other since we were kids, I know when you're lying, and right now is a prime example." She looked up at her pyroar companion and stood up taller before looking down at her, the height difference between the two becoming more clear, "As your princess, I order you to tell me what's been going on. I want a resolution." She ordered, expression blank as she watched Catra's eyes go wide.
What she failed to notice was the slight dust of pink along Catra's cheeks.
The pyroar's eyebrows then furrowed down, angry, "I'm fine, Adora, nothing is wrong."
"Stop lying!" Adora then barked, "It won't get you anywhere!"
"What do you know?!" Catra immediately shot back
Adora took a step forward, "I know everything about you, Catra!"
The pyroar guard scoffed, rolling her eyes, "You definitely don't know everything!"
"Like what?!" Adora prodded on, getting more furious with her royal guard.
"Like!-" Catra started, before shutting her mouth abruptly, realizing what she was going to say, "..Like.." She started to grow quieter, shrinking back.
Adora towered over her, "Like what, Catra? Speak!" She fumed, and Catra peered up at her, anxious.
The guard took in a breath, standing up straight to look the princess in the eyes before speaking, "Like how I love you, Adora! Like how I want nothing more to spend the rest of my life with you, by your side, loving you and only you. More than just your royal guard..."
Adora froze, feeling her face start to flush at Catra's words, "You..love me?" She breathed out, voice barely a whisper, and Catra looked down.
"You're such an idiot.."
"I love you, too."
Catra's head whipped up, gaze softening as she saw Adora's light smile. The pyroar then wandered forward, lifting her head to reach Adora's height before lightly kissing her.
As they broke away, Adora rested her forehead on Catra's, sitting them both down in the castle corridor. They sat for a moment, both realizing there would be dire consequences if they were caught together with no notice to the queen. Catra quietly sighed, "You know what will happen, right?"
"Yeah.." Adora responded, placing a paw on Catra's, "But whatever happens, we'll figure it out together."
"You promise?"
"I promise."
