Range Trotter #MT0001

Postby Tynahi » Thu Sep 02, 2021 3:15 pm

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Dino Fact: I also identify as a Suzhousaurus
Fact; One of the weirdest dinosaurs is the Suzhousaurus. Looking like a giant rat, this odd dinosaur also had a furry body, which suggests it is a distant ancestor of the giant ground sloth.

Dino Fact: The Spinosaurus' most distinctive feature was the massive bony fin on its back. This is also known as a sail, and could be up to 7 feet high. The bones of a Spinosaurus' sail were actually part of its spine. --- can you imagine; 7ft tall sail is taller than the average person and that was only the sail on the Spino!

    Gender: Mare

    Dino Fact: Paras!
During the Cretaceous period, hadrosaurs were the largest land animals capable of running on their two hind legs, albeit only for short stretches of time. The four-ton Parasaurolophus probably spent most of its day browsing for vegetation on all fours, but could break into a reasonably brisk two-legged trot when it was being pursued by predators. x

hadrosaurids are divided into two subfamilies. Lambeosaurinae has a prominent crest on its skull, while the other subfamily does not. This crest actually contained some of the dinosaur's nasal passageways, much like our nose! The most likely explanation for these crests would be for communication.

Show Name: WS Little Raptor
Barn Name: Amber
Gender: mare
Halter: artists choice
Dino Fact: Raptors
While the Velociraptor was featherless in the movies, paleontologists discovered quill knobs (places where the flight-related feathers of birds are anchored to the bone) on a well-preserved Velociraptor forearm from Mongolia in 2007, indicating the dinosaur had feathers

Show Name: First Flight of the World
Barn Name: Sirje (meaning blue feathered)
Gender: Mare
Halter: artist choice
Dino Fact: Archaeopteryx
Archaeopteryx was around the size of ravens and their name means ancient feather/wing in greek! While the size of a raven, that does not mean they flew like one, it's actually suspected they had a totally different way of flight.

Show Name: MR Prehistoric Terror
Barn Name: Phorus
Gender: mare
Halter: green camo!
Dino Fact: Pachyrhinosaurus has been discovered in Alaska and parts of Canada in massive graveyards which contained entire herds of the dinosaur! They're even speculated to have "fuzz" which makes me think of them as big ancient lizard bison

Show Name: SMR Triassic Trek
Barn Name: Sauri
Gender: Mare
Halter: Artist's Choice
Dino Fact: Utahraptor
"While it is pretty well established that raptors such as the Velociraptor may have hunted in packs, no one is really sure if Utahraptor did. There is no proof that that these animals hunted in packs and most of the fossil specimens have been of individual Utahraptors and not groups of them. The fact of the matter is that there is simply not enough proof to show pack behavior or not." (BONUS: Utahraptor was about ten times larger than Velociraptor.) credit
