I thought I’d share this story with everyone because we all make mistakes, and I think it’s important to share those errors with others from time to time, because vulnerability is just as important as strength. This was my second attempt at this cat. I’ve previously had thoughts that my style was messy and too loose compared to others, so I tried to make it more uniform and orderly. Therefore, I made it too uniform, to the point that the cat looked unrealistic. So here I am, after entirely redoing the cat, with a kid in my true style, with the wonky, imperfect stripes. I didn’t enjoy having to redo a cat, but it taught me a lesson to never try to change up the way you do things to be like someone else. I’d like to use my story to inspire the competition for this cat.
Tell me about the most important life lesson this cat has ever learned (how they learned it) in under 300 words.

name: Butterball
gender: yes (they haven’t decided, but is comfortable with they/them for now)
rank: guard
age: 1.2 years (14 moons)
clan: x

Butterball didn’t like being sick. They were pretty sure nobody did. And they were pretty sure nobody would. The only thing worse than being sick was learning. Learning was boring. Well, it was usually boring. Bluebell made it fun. Bluebell and Butterball grew up together- they lived with the same TwoLegs, in the same TwoLeg nest. Bluebell was older, though, and taught them a lot of things.
The most important thing Bluebell taught them? Not to go into the woods. Butterball grew up knowing that the woods were confusing, and scary, and a lot of big animals live there. There were even stories about cats going into the woods and their bodies being found by TwoLegs. So, they never left the comfort of the TwoLeg’s nest.
Bluebell did, though. She had been in the woods before, which is how she knew she wasn’t lying to Butterball. She wouldn’t do that. She hadn’t been too far into the woods to not be able to turn back, though.
One day, Bluebell hadn’t been fed by her TwoLegs. She was sick of it. So sick of it, that she left. Ran away. Went into the woods and didn’t come back.
Anyways.
The thing Butterball learned?
Not to go into the woods.
(But they did anyways.)

name: Suntail
gender: She-cat
rank: Warrior
age: 14 Moons
clan: Bones of Prey
prompt:
Suntail was known as Sunpaw at the time of her biggest lesson in life. Meaning of course, she was just a mere apprentice at the time, so she was learning several different things anyway. Now Suntail was a bit of a brat back in her apprentice days and figured that she was better than everyone else and should be treated as of she was the leader of the clan. Most importantly? She did what she wanted to do. At least, she did so until she got caught breaking code.
It was during an afternoon patrol of the border. Suntail (Sunpaw at the time) had managed to sneak away from her hunting party and catch a fairly large vole. Instead of returning to the party, she sat down and ate the vole herself. When she finished, she decided to head back to her party. But by the time she got back, they were gone. So, Sunpaw had figured her hunting party went back to camp. But when she got to camp, they weren't there. So panic started to rise up inside of her. She was just starting to run back out of camp, but Darkheart stopped her in her tracks and called her over.
Darkheart asked her all kinds of questions about why she was bsck so early. To refrain from getting in trouble, Sunpaw simply lied and said she was feeling sick so she wanted to come back and rest. Darkheart had accepted this answer, but just as Sunpaw was about to leave, a warrior from her hunting party came to report news about a vole they found.
Let's just say... Suntail got her warrior name pretty late compared to the other apprentices after Darkheart correlated the two. Don't ever lie to a leader.

Winner! Congrats on
Suntail! I really liked how smooth your story flowed, and your use of narrative voice made it sound like she was the one telling the story. The structure was really nice in the sense that you told the story and then wrapped it all up with the lesson, congrats!

Thank you so much! This was a wonderful way to start my day off. And I really appreciate all the feedback given! I don't see many communities here who give feedback on the specific structures of a form. It makes me overjoyed to see what you liked about the short story. ^^
