Rukami #38

Rukami (Gulo Stantes) are a newly discovered species of bipedal mammals. Though they resemble wolves, they are actually more closely related to the mustelid family, which includes wolverines, otters, and badgers to name a few. Through natural selection, these rare animals evolved to incredible sizes and developed sentient brains along with opposable thumbs.

How did this Rukami get a ruby
She is a bit of a kleptomaniac, drawn specifically to small objects - the shinier or more unique the better. Just about anything that catches her fancy tends to end up in her claws; feathers, beads, intact animal bones, scraps of fabric, etc. And so far, she has been able to keep from taking it from others directly - only nabbing the item if she notices it without an owner or purposefully scrapped. That is what happened with the ruby she was able to wrap up in her vines.

As was her usual, Aislynn was wandering around - both to keep herself exercised and to look for anything else to add to her collection. Not one to ever hold down a territory, or even look for a mate to settle with, she often found herself moving through great tracts of land. This time around, she had found herself in a patch of woods that lay near a small town-like village. This Rukami was knowledgeable enough about humans to know two things. One, that they would just as quickly kill her as study her; two, that they often had many interesting and appealing trinkets. Aislynn was wise enough not to wander close in the daylight hours when the humans would be awake. So she wandered the woods a distance from the village, biding her time until nightfall.

When the darkness came, it was near complete thanks to the presence of a slim crescent moon. She had stalked through the shadows cast by the vegetation and the houses. Only two things were in her mind. Stay quiet so as not to be detected and find where the humans tossed there 'trash' so as to look for anything worthwhile. However she didn't even get that far. As she was slinking between houses, a small object with the faintest of shimmers sat in a pool of water. As she scooped it up, Aislynn could see glimmers of red beneath a muddy coat. And with a satisfied growl, she had found a prize that was more than worthwhile.

So she returned to the den she had chosen for the short time in this current region. The object, unknown as to what it was, sat in her semi-curled paw as she settled down for rest that night. In the morning, safely away from the humans, Aislynn sniffed out a stream and sat to the task of cleaning her newest treasure. After much scrubbing and rinsing, her determination was rewarded by a sparkling-like-new red orb. Of course, she had no clue at first that it was a ruby. It was only after she took an interest in healing - through herbs and stones primarily - that she learned of its true identity and properties. Even if it hadn't been such a prize, she would have kept it. Now that she knows? Well, that's why it sits secured in the roots and vines along her forelegs.

Who she is
Aislynn is an interesting individual, sometimes seeming contradictory. While she doesn't like to steal from others, she has no trouble taking from them if she can come up with a plausible justification. This is thanks to her kleptomania tendencies, which used to be weaker impulses that have grown with her aging. She also doesn't like the idea of settling down, but also likes to keep to familiar areas; generally this consists of a forest or nook by a river or hilly country within woodlands. Aislynn is sociable and friendly but also can be highly aggressive, especially in regards to the things she collects.
