hello everyone! im back again for another year of staff kals, i had a ton of fun making mine for last year and wow what a journey the last year has been. im in a much better place with my art, and closer (but still mega far) from where id like to be with it!!

trivia: did you know since last years staff kalon, i've made roughly 128 kals!
26 main adopts (and their runner ups)
70 kits
32 event kals (across this years summer and halloween events)
and many more commissions, contest entries, and kal art!
wow its been a busy year huh !!

anyways, this dude is based on the starbucks dragonfruit refresher, which is always my go to drink when blistering summer time rolls around. i love the texture of the little dragonfruit bits, and i always thought it was cool that the longer i have the drink still the darker and more rich in color the magentas and purples become!

since this is based on dragon fruit, and all dragons have their hoards, tell me what this kalon hoards.

Miria looked around her hospital room, sighing at the many paper cranes that spread throughout the room. She wasn't getting any better, but at least her condition wasn't deteriorating. She so missed being able to leave the hospital, the fresh air and the sounds of busy streets. Strings of cranes hung from her ceiling and walls, so many of them in different arrangements of colours.

Her friend Artemis would bring in new strands of cranes every month, as Miria's friends were always making more. According to some rumours Artemis had heard around school, if someone were gifted 1000 cranes, the hospital would grant a wish to the patient, and Artemis had made it her goal to get Miria as many wishes as possible.

Miria loved her cranes, and the thoughts and well-wishes written on each of the cranes wings. She still couldn't believe her friends would do something this sweet!

admittedly, it's a mess, but he wouldn't have it any other way. the chaotic
tightness of the house wasn't stifling at all to sullivan, and as he huddled
away into a little corner, he propped up a familiar, well-worn book to read
yet again.


the compendium is old, so much so — he traces the flowers' lines that
decorated each page, murmuring the names of each plant as his eyes
sweeps over them. no matter how many times he opened those books,
sullivan had always felt awe, a feeling that had never dissipated ever
since meeting her.


her smile, bright yet fleeting, played in his mind over and over as he
recalled how he had come to own so many tomes and flora. she had pulled
up in her car, coughing all the while she was handing everything to him.


"i need to go," she explained, fumbling with the things in her hands, "so
take care of these for me until i come back, okay?"


he could only agree, and ever since then, he had brought it upon himself
to care for those flowers and go through the floral encyclopedias amongst
the many other things that she had given him. it's easy enough; he had
worked with ianthe in her flower shop while he was still in school. he
owed her so much to not live up to her expectations.


perhaps it wasn't a hoard by a traditional sense, but sullivan would never
throw out the things that she had trusted him with.

There are some who are born with a thirst for knowledge; an undeniable urge to collect and store information in the recesses of their minds, ready to pluck out in times of need and become useful. To fill the space in their heads with words and facts and numbers, to fill it with useful things that can be used later. But there are also some who like to fill their heads with other things.

"Tell me a story."

"Anything in particular?"

"Anything at all."

Some seek to fill their heads with stories; stories of love and heroism and grandeur, legends and campfire tales and imaginings let loose from the speakers tongue, from the scribes quill. Who feel an insatiable desire to become lost in worlds of fantasy and to store them away in the deep, limitless space of their mind to be relived at any moment. Those who find themselves drawn to writers and taverns, to storytellers and like minded people, to new books and old texts and the voices of those who can tell a tale so well you can see their words as they speak.

"Tell me a story."

"What would you like to hear?"

"If it's a story, I'll listen to anything."

So much space in these minds, soaking in people's words, tucking them away in their memories. Infinite room for hoarding these stories, collecting them in a place where they'll never collect dust; a monumental private collection of other people's tales, kept safe in thought, never forgotten.
