Everyone has something which they hold close to themselves, something which they, if not love, ascribe some value to. For an immortal, many things stop being so dear after a while... material possessions fade and fall apart, loved ones pass away, certain memories are forgotten- for no matter how good you are at remembering, 490 years is simply too much for a mind to always sift through. But, there is one thing, to me, that I always hold tight to- my names. For every life I have lived, I have at least one, and each one holds my legend. I travel, and I spread my name- perhaps different in every place, but mine nonetheless- but not for anyone else... no, it is so I can hold them to myself even tighter- I never lose my names, for the legends keep them close to my chest, and keep me from ever forgetting. I hoard the names I’ve created for myself, always speaking them, keeping them, and spreading them... my names are my own legends, and I’d never let them go.

what do they hoard?: there's a strange sort of wonder that comes with age; not the child-like fascination with every little corner of the world, where even a robin pecking rhythmically at the ground is but a joy. no, instead it is the wonder of what-could-have-beens, of unanswered questions and pages unturned. the thrill of piecing together a story left to be long-forgotten, a secret uncovered to kept to just one soul.

stories build towards a climax, a reveal, some moment where jaws drop or hearts swell or tears begin to fall: a peak destined to be climbed. and yet, she is left chasing this moment. denial hurts, that is a fact of life, but perhaps what hurts the most is feeling so close and tumbling down so far.

despite this, she perseveres.

it is something utterly intoxicating, tempting, and downright addictive; foggy lenses to the past clearing with each turn of a delicate page. how easily accessible everything is remains part of the charm, too - for it takes a single step into that shining thrift store, built upon the desire to replace and find something new, to find the eternally passed-by world that remains so desirable. take what is useful and leave what is not, because one day even the most mundane tales' time will come.

her own collection, though, could rival what this store of dreams carries. walls, shelves, nooks and crannies stuffed with delicately bound journeys and memories, tales of misfortune and great deeds, splendor beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

so sorry this took so long to judge! life has been hectic but i finally got a minute to sit down and read through all of these to give them the individual attention they deserved!

first, i want to start with some honorable mentions! these users either had very beautiful, or hilarious artwork, or very well written and unique ideas for what this kalon hoards!

and finally, the winner of this guy! i actually saw quite a few entries with ideas in the same sort of bracket as stories, memories, bits of the future/past, thoughts, etc. but this one really stuck out to me. i really loved how you went in to explain how his personality ties to why he keeps these things, and i think despite how rough and tumble this guy looks i adore that you made him a big softie at heart, who would shoulder bad memories just for the sake of others. with that, congrats sereena ! i hope you enjoy this guy : )
