#2457 Silver Seal Bay

Postby Chronometer » Wed Jun 03, 2015 4:26 am

Shh, Chrono doesn't have an exam in two hours. What are you talking about?

This poor baby is blind, specifically due to multiple cataracts and poorly treated retinal detachment.
This is a direct result of the silver gene, so be cautious when breeding! Another silver foal may inherit
these handicaps!

How do they cope with their blindness?
Blind Boy is a uneasy and skittish stallion. When he came to Paradise Pines in his early three year old life he was ignored by the other horses and bullied by Crowley and Zachary. Sebastien always had a soft heart for blind horses ever since his own mate was blind and bullied by the two as well. Without Sebastien, Blind Boy ended up coping with his blindness by simply relying on his sense of touch since his hearing never had been the best either and smelling lead him in the wrong directions so he often touches things as he moves if he has no guidance. It had still been a poor way of coping as Blind Boy would find himself having bumped into fences, walls, other horses, anything there could be. Eventually though, when Sebastien came to his aid he had been hesitant of accepting the offer. Afraid he'd just be rude like some of the others. When their bond had formed Sebastien found Blind Boy glued to his hip and they'd work together. Eventually Blind Boy asked Sebastien for help in learning how to jump since he always dreamed of flying high over fences and winning ribbons.

How do they cope with their blindness? Lupis' other senses are far above average due to his blindness, he's able to hear much, much more than other horses. This, coupled with the fact that his whiskers are allowed to grow out and occasional help from the nicer horses at Songbird Acres. He's much too proud to accept constant help, and would rather stand still than risk stumbling around or be seen being led by another horse.

Name: Caecelius, meaning blind in Latin-American. His name is often shortened to just "Celius"
[b]Gender: Stallion
Colour: Silver Seal Bay (Ee/AtAt/ZZ)
Age: 7
Height: 15.2
How do they cope with their blindness? However his greatest flaw would be his need to steal, to prove his blindness doesn't make it impossible to see whats valuable. It's a game to him, seeing what he could get away with stealing. Ironic, giving his show name. When he gets down, Eli, my starstruck boy is there to help. He'll lead him out at night and explain to him how the stars look.

Show Name (optional): Twilight The Ballad Of Mona Lisa
Name: Mona Lisa
Gender: Mare
Colour: Silver Seal Bay (Ee/AtAt/ZZ)
Age: 8
Height: 13.1hh
How do they cope with their blindness? Mona Lisa sticks with her best friend, Foxtrot. Foxtrot is her eyes and her protection. They are inseparable. They healed each other. Foxtrot mentally and Mona Lisa physically. the shy mares understand each other and are well respected in the herd. Nobody bullies Mona Lisa. She wasn't born blind, she just eventually became blind. Mona Lisa is brave and inspiring for the others, her senses are more refined than the others and a few times Mona Lisa has saved a foal from danger.

Name: Whiskey
Gender: Stallion
Colour: Silver Seal Bay (Ee/AtAt/ZZ)
Age: 5 years old
Height: 15 hands
How do they cope with their blindness? Whiskey is a bit more snappy towards other horses, he doesn't like when they offer help since he doesn't want or need it. He's a proud horse who just wants to be dealt with like a normal part of the herd, but most horses try to go easy on him so he's become a loner recently. Some friendlier horses will still try to keep him company but he just pins his ears at them, making them leave him alone. There is one horse he lets near him and that's Dove, she doesn't treat him like a blind horse that needs constant help or attention, she'll push him around some if Whiskey's about to run into something dangerous like a fence or if there are rocks in front of them. Most of the time she follows his lead, which he likes, he would make a great herd leader if ever got the chance. A main part of the reason he lets her stay around is because he's madly in love with her but he's too proud to come out and say that.

Bode relies on his "seeing eye" Andromeda where ever he goes. When we first brought him home he would constantly bump into everything so we decided to put him in an open pasture where we kept our mare Andromeda and they bonded immediately, ever since then they've been together and he's been getting better each day.

Colour: Silver Seal Bay (Ee/AtAt/ZZ)
Age: 6 years
Height: 14.2 hands
How do they cope with their blindness? For Kelper who lost his vision much younger in life, he's pretty used to it by now. He has friend like Scythe would are also blind that both help each other cope. Him and Scythe is close friends due to this and in many ways Kelper helped Scythe as well. Kelper tries to help Scythe get over the frustration his blindness causes them. His friends Azalea and Calamity help him if he needs it. His ability to cope inspires and cheers all that are around him.

How do they cope with their blindness? have you ever heard the expression "When you lose one sense the others become sharper"? It's not exactly true. When you lose one sense, the others don't become sharper, you just depend on them more. When you become blind, you realise how much you need your sense of hearing, smell and touch. Storme uses her whiskers, ears and nose to find her way, rather than her eyes. Sure, it's not perfect, Storme can appear clumsy or clueless, but it's better than nothing. She became friends with Star, my first and currently only tolter and he guides her if she needs it. Storme doesn't act ashamed of her blindness. It's just another thing in life.

Revolver, like many blind horses, relies on his other senses such as touch and hearing. He also uses his buddy horses to help him find his way around by listening to their hooves.
