“Whose next for the best ride of there lives!” The lioness shouted before seeing a pile of giggly cubs swan dive onto the back of her sled. Kamaria chuckled before readjusting her vine harness coated with vulture feathers and small jars filled with fireflies so she could see the path she would be traveling.

Cub Carriage Rides. The perfect tradition for the perfect midwinter yule!

As she started pulling her sled she started belting out three different versions of jingle bells for the cubs which was roughly all she had known as she took them for a ride over the river and to the decorated emblem tree which had Safiri and Fuli buried there and back to home. The smiling cubs is probably what they wanted to hear and Kamaria was more than honored to do it.

Zechariah unsheathed his claws, staring at the snowbank ahead that was taller than he was. All he had to do was stay calm.

"GO!"

Immediately he plunged into the snow, churning at the icy wetness with his paws. Using his antlers to scrape away icy chunks, Zechariah made his way into the snowbank, pushing snow out with his hind paws. He could hear the other competitors crunching snow underneath their paws, which spurred him to work faster. Every moonfolk was working for the same prize, but he couldn't lose the chance to spend a day outside. Not after everything he'd gone through.

His ears perked up at the sound of a new noise. Pitter patter went tiny pawsteps on top of the snow.

Then came a mighty crunch.

Zechariah shrieked as a cub fell on top of his head, bringing down a section of the tunnel roof with it. He popped his head out of the snow and watched as a cub-sized lion scampered off across the snow to collapse another tunnel. He let out a long sigh.

Sabotaged by a cub.

Prompt: Every winter, some of the lions would gather and make the journey up to the top of Mount Calla. In many cases, it was a coming-of-age ceremony, a lion’s first climb was one they’d remember forever, but, it wasn’t only the young lions that could make the trip. Many lions of the pride simply enjoyed the event and made the climb along with them, guiding them on their way. However one crucial part of the tradition was that nobody was to say what they’d find at the top. Badger groaned about not knowing the secret. Especially when the day of the climb drew near and the lions that had already made the journey up previously began to show their excitement for the trek. Badger pretended that he didn’t care what was at the top, he didn’t see the big deal of climbing up a mountain and getting your toes frozen. But when the year came for him to make his first trip, he could hardly contain his suspense, the other lions smiling knowingly. It was a surprisingly easy trail, having been carved out of the mountain by previous generations. But it was long, it took all day to make it to the top, but when they finally made it, Badger saw it. “Aurora” the lions called it, the most beautiful thing Badger had ever seen. It was worth every step up that cold mountain, and Badger knew he would be one to make the trip every year from then on. [250/250]

When Dalfon was woken up this morning, he hadn't expected this. With so much urgency he had expected a catastrophe, or perhaps a marvelous surprise.

Instead he was blind folded and hurried along paths that felt treacherous and long without sight. It felt like forever before the blindfold had come off and he was greeted with smiling faces, and the sight of a beach he hadn’t explored before.

It was beautiful, water sparkling in weak sunlight. But they weren’t here for relaxation. They needed to swim just out of the bay and back.

It was tradition.

It would be freezing cold!

Did they think Dalfon mad? It was the winter solstice, and they wanted him to drench himself in the ocean?!

He wouldn't do it. No way. But then one lion entered the water, and another, and seriously? Even that coward Hio had jumped in? Dalfon couldn’t bail out now. He was not a coward.

Plus it was hilarious seeing them all gasp and complain about the cold. He would show them he was tougher.

Dalfon didn’t hesitate any longer, racing into the ocean, already up to his chest before his brain caught up.

It was more than frigid! It felt like the sea had never seen the sun before. He couldn’t help it and screeching incoherently in complaint.
Others started to laugh, making Dalfon splash them. It wasn’t funny!
Alright... It was a little funny.

But that didn’t mean he was staying in any longer than he had to.
