Prompt: "describe the parents relationship" [507 words]
It wasn’t serious.. At least that’s what Luna tells herself, just a simple fling with an outsider, it couldn’t be serious, it couldn’t be.
It had been a rough winter, the disappearance of Nightstar and subsequent fall of DawnClan had put a lot on her shoulders. So when she was out by the harbor gathering herbs, who was she to resist when she came face-to-face with an old friend.
GeraniumHeart, better known as Valentine, had been her friend for many moons, so long that she had tried many times to convince him to join her clan, but he resisted every time, citing that he had to keep moving, and had to satisfy the urge to go wherever the winds guided him.
So he would travel all around, stowing away on human ships going off to far away lands, leaving Luna to yearn, sneaking out to the harbor at night, wishing for his return..
But they could only be friends, never clanmates, never something.. More.
The Stars wouldn’t allow it, she was a medic after all, she had to focus on her clan, take care of the sick and weary. Although, now she wasn’t much of anything at all, she still cared for the wounded cats who would come to her, but her clan was gone and the Stars had gone silent, she was left with nothing but a silent den and an empty heart.
Until one day, Luna found Valentine.
She was on her regular evening rounds, gathering what she could of the winter herbs around the harbor, when a tide washed in, carrying a familiar face.
There he was, Valentine, waterlogged and wounded, something had happened, something bad. She rushed to his side, dropping what she had gathered, and hoisted him onto the sands. They weren’t too far from her den, if she could get him there she could help him, she had to.
Dusk turned to night when they arrived at her den and she immediately sprung to action, applying poultice to his wounds and soaking the water out of his pelt. When she was done she curled around him, praying to the stars that her friend would make it through.
A season passed, the flowers began to bloom and the trees sprouted leaves anew, much like the world coming to life, their fondness for each other only grew from that moment, the two of them falling into a routine as Valentine recovered, they would go on strolls with one another, Luna making the excuse that it was simply to let him stretch, but they both knew that it was simply to spend time together.
Valentine was nearly recovered when one thing led to another, Luna confessed her feelings and they became something more for a time.
But spring turned to summer, and summer turned to autumn, and the winds called Valentine once again..
He left in the night, stowing away on another ship, leaving only a red geranium and a white orchid where he once laid.
Luna was alone again, but not for long…
