but how exactly would you ask someone for an HM custom?
What I mean by this is do you directly pm them or is there a
way to ask them on a thread like you would for nursery batches.

also- would bandages over a couple facial scars count as an edit?

Can we give our kalons haircuts and styles in artwork on separate refs? Ex, a kalon has really long hair, but they cut it sometimes.

I’d really like to know this as well. It would really help with some of my kalons’ characters. Like if they have long hair but cut it super short every now and then, then grow it back out? Also, to go along with this, could you do art of them with dyed hair?

Only staff can do HM customs; sometimes a staff member will post on the fanclub that they're open, or mention it in their signature.
You could also post in the fanclub yourself, and sometimes staff will notice and PM you about it (though I'd recommend PMing someone directly about it, as sometimes it may not get seen. ^^)

Bandages/band-aids/etc. would count as accessories and can be added freely (as long as a version of your Kal without accessories is posted for breedings,) but scars would need approval from Wicced or Karmel.

Yep!
Standard MYOs could also have bangs that cover the eyes, as long as the bangs/the rest of the hair is not longer than the jawline when wet.

it depends on the artists when they wish to make adopts, there is no set schedule for when adopts are made and put out.
