A slow dripping sound echoes through the dark landscape. The large luminous and silvery ringed planet resting in the sky, an ominous sight for both those of mortal and immortal origins.

A lone figure rests on their haunches gazing up at the skyline, their ears resting to the sides and tail swaying softly through the shallow black liquid that covers the entire floor. The sound of soft splashing makes them twitch and tip their head down, flicking an ear to the side.

“You're early.” The feline says, their voice a soft monotone as another cat sits down next to them, their eyes covered with a white cloth, the silver garments along their legs and spine glittering softly in the little light given off by the ringed giant.

“I am right on time, old friend.” Mortifer hums, their ears flicking slightly in amusement as Bael turns towards them and snarls softly, their blank eyes narrowed down into a glare as Mortifer huffs a small amused laugh.

Bael glares the slightly smaller cat down for a moment before flicking their tail out through the water and standing, their fur stained with the dark liquid they rest in and let out a sigh. They turn towards Mortifer and pitch their ears back, “What do you want?”

Mortifer blinks behind the blinders and flicks their ears forward, “What does anyone want from the God Killer?” They chirp standing and flicking their tail up and trotting around Bael with a grin, “What could death possibly want from the Leviathan? I wonder.”

“Get on with it.” Bael snapped, taking a threatening step forwards. Mortifer tipped their head with a toothy smile.

The Horseman just watched them for a moment before letting out a soft humm and spun on their front paws the oily dark waters splashing up in Bael’s face as they rear back with a hiss of annoyance.

Bouncing away from the now angered Leviathan, Mortifer grins at them and starts speaking, “The other Horsemen are getting restless, they can tell The Host and The Rings are getting antsy. Someones going to misstep soon and it’s all going to fall apart for the realms.” Death itself chirps.

Bael pauses, taking this in before lifting their head and tipping it slightly, “And what does this have to do with me, If you don't remember this happens to be my prison.” The last word is spat out like a particularly nasty tasting songbird.

The Horseman’s smile doesn't falter, “I would never give the God Killer an idea to flit around outside their cage, a mighty gilded cage isn't it?” They purr looking around with their ears flicking slightly before turning their head back to Bael, “but, no one would have to know it was an outside force who gave the Leviathan a way out, you have been here for millenia haven’t you? It’s not that outside the realms for one like you to out smart the all mighty.”

Bael flicks their tail, considering for a moment then two. “Alright then, let’s see how your plan works, Horseman.” They say at last, Mortifer chirps a small pleased sound and spins to leave, the large form of a pale horse rising from a slow building cloud of smoke surrounding them.

“You’ll know when the time comes God Killer.” Mortifer says as they climb onto the large armored steed with grace, Bael just flicks an ear and turns away to resume their staring contest with the sky above.

A soft plink, plink, plink echoes through the darkness, the Leviathan smiles as they stare out at the sky.

Soon.

Sandytears padded to the end of the sewer tunnels... probably one of its many exits if he was being honest. A soft smile met his face as the sun peaked through the clouds and warmed his creamy face. His rat amigo Oysyerstench (Oy for short) scurried after him, yet passed him rushing into tall grasses before them. Sandytears paced for a moment. It was a lot to leave the tunnels he had known his whole life. But if he didn't have Oy he would be totally alone... Sandytears lets out a deep exhale before rushing after his friend.

The Weeping Willows
Last Explore Post | Last Response Received

A soft breeze rolled through the sleepy farm that made up The Weeping Willows, stepping out of her little home a fluffy barred ticked tabby with low white let out a small ‘hmm’ as the warm of the sun's rays danced on her lilac colored fur, the flowers nestled in her ear fur fluttered as the breeze swept across the farm; blinking bright blue eyes the Earl bounded from the steps of the barn and over to the small trail that led deep into the forest surrounding her home. Giving her thick fur a quick shake the youthful looking shecat ventured into the forest, determined to find some prey to bring back to her every growing group; they have yet to appoint any Hunters and with the mice no longer residing in the stuffy barn due to the increasing heat Wisteria had made it her duty to go out into the forest every morning hunt for her group. Claws digging into the soft earth she padded deeper into the thick undergrowth, nose to the ground and maw parted as she drew in the scents around her, eager and hopeful for something to pop up.

[2,106 words, not counting where I say all the writer has to reply to.]

A soft purr had rumbled from Nona as her lover weaved flowers and herbs into her fur. The scent of the herbs was calming, and such a small thing in the grand scheme of her Goddess hood was comforting. Her ears then pricked towards Gala, who stopped lapping at her head. She seemed to have a question lingering in her mind - but what?

"Gala? You're holding something back." Nona commented.

"You are WAY too aware." Gala said with a small sigh. "You told me you were a clan cat once, before you.. well, became a Goddess. How is it that you don't remember how they operate? I was born of negativity, of fear. The Heart of Decay being in distress is all I've ever known. But you... you started out just like them. What exactly happened?"

"That's.. a long tale." Nona sighed. "Come on. Let's check the borders and see if there are any other cats in need of our help, and I'll tell you as we walk."

With a curious shift of her head, Gala obliged, staying at Nona's side. Their tails naturally wrapped around one another. With Nona's being so long, some of it draped over Gala's back even while coiled in hers. The two were inseparable.

[The above is all the writer technically needs to reply to!]

-----

“Do you believe in destiny?”

A quote that frequently echoed in the young kits mind. Her soft blue eyes would wander the canvas of the earth, contemplating the reason behind each exhale, each strum of life. An odd series of questions for a kit so young to be experiencing. And yet, she found comfort in the unknown. She desired to unravel the purpose of life, and help others to do the same. Of course, she was just a kit at this point - a being too small to comprehend how massive the undertaking of her dream was. Of course, that wouldn't stop her.

To learn fate, you must take a leap of faith.

—---

“Nona…” A voice as smooth as honey called. It was faint - like the voice was submerged under water. After a moment, the kit’s eyes would open, glossed over as the body failed to process the abrupt awakening.

“What?” The molly kit would mewl as she sprawled out onto her back dramatically. Her face was now towards the entrance of a cavern she lay in, the soft yellow light illuminating her. Soon, she slowly sat up, her gaze shifting to the cat who had called her name. It was her mother.

“Oh my dear. Did you sleep well?” The molly purred lovingly, a sharp tongue soon beginning to strum against the kit's head. She leered away, but the mother pressed on with a soft chuckle. “You can not escape me that easily, my little one.”

“Meh meh.” The kit mocked before her ears perked up curiously. She picked up the notes of curious conversation beyond the den, and soon rose to her paws. “Mom, may I go out there?”

“Of course. Eager to be nosy?” She cooed playfully.

“Nooo.” The kit replied before bounding out of the den. She sat outside of it, her blue eyes shining curiously as she watched two cats several feet away from her converse. Something about their body language was tense, and through eavesdropping, she would begin to understand why.

“What do you mean there is a clan stealing our resources?” One tom spat.

“Exactly what I said! There's a new scent on the horizon, and our prey supply has dried up completely! No mice, no birds, nothing! They are hogging it all.” Another voice replied, bogged down by fatigue and frustration.

After a moment, Nona's mother emerged from behind her, her ears pricked forward intently.

“Is it really that bad, mama?” Nona asked as she gazed up at her mother, whose small smile faltered for a moment before returning to normal. She didn't want to worry her offspring with problems meant for the adults.

“It will all work out. But that is not your problem to worry about. You just need to worry about getting big and strong, so you can help when the time comes.”

“Hmmm… okay… but if you are lying, I will find out!” Nona replied, to which her mother chuckled.

“Without a doubt, my little Nona.” Her mother shifted focus back to the bickering toms, and soon she would move between them, breaking the tension of the argument.

“You two need to expend your energy towards finding prey instead of arguing with one another.” She uttered coldly. “Look at the example you are setting for my little one.”

The two toms looked at the kit for a moment before guilt overwhelmed their expressions. They each bowed their heads; a silent apology. Nona, confused, simply bowed her head back, and watched as the two toms exited the camp together.

“You are so cool, mom.” Nona commented.

“I am not just cool. I am a mother.” She beamed playfully. “Go play with the other kits for now. I'm going to go help the medicine cats find more herbs.”

“Okay.” Nona agreed, watching her mom saunter away. But she had no intention of playing with the other kits.

She wanted to make a difference. And once her mom was out of sight, she eagerly took off after the two toms.

She had to run for a while to catch up - though she was an ambitious kit, her body did not quite suit her eager nature; and yet, she did not care.

Once she could see the two toms, she made every effort to remain stealthy. She stayed several paces behind them, and made sure her paws never made contact with a stray leaf or a fragile twig. One snap, one wrong movement could give away her position.

The toms stopped for a moment, whispering to one another.

“Do you feel like we are being watched?”

“Yeah, definitely.”

Nona froze. Every inch of her body stopped moving, her breathing ceased - she didn't even feel like she could blink. Then, her eyes were drawn towards a bush rustling in front of the toms. She realized in that moment one thing - the toms had not been talking about her.

A large cat emerged from the bush, their eyes immediately wide upon the sight of the two toms. “Who are you?” The cat inquired, and Nona quietly gasped as a vicious snarl escaped one of the toms.

“You thief! This is the territory of Shimmerclan!”

The cat took a step back, their gaze faltering. “Well, uh… you see…”

“No! No I do not. You are stealing resources from our clan that desperately needs them. Why would you bring a clan so close to another? This has been OUR territory for moons.” The second tom growled. Nona took notice of the toms beginning to circle this cat.

They intended to fight. But fighting was not the resolution to this - cats all deserved the resources to live. Fearing the worst would happen, Nona quickly ran towards the group of cats, leaving in front of the stranger.

“WAIT!” Nona gazed up, and soon her face was met by a claw, striking across the bridge of her nose. She stumbled to the side, and quickly rose, whimpering quietly as blood began to drip from her. However, she elected to ignore it, moving back in front of the stranger.

“NONA!” One of the toms gasped. “Oh stars, your mother is going to kill me.”

“Like you were about to kill this cat?! He deserves to live, just like the rest of us!” Nona argued. The two toms of the clan exchanged a look, and soon the stranger spoke.

“No, they're right. We do not belong here.” Nona took notice of the cat's sad tone, and with a quiet sigh, sat down on her haunches, using one of her front paws to gently stroke the wound on her face.

“Everyone deserves a chance.” Nona reinforced. “There is only so much land not over run by those.. uh.. What are they called…”

“Twolegs?”

“Yes; that's the one!” Nona exasperated before looking back at the stranger. “You should not have to completely leave. You should just make sure not to hunt in our borders. We are struggling to get by, just like you.” Nona empathized. “My mom told me not to worry, but I can't help it.”

The three adults exchanged a glance before the stranger spoke.

“That is very mature for a kit. I will… Let my clan know of your mercy.” The stranger said before shifting to leave. “For what it is worth, I'm sorry.”

“Do not be sorry for just trying to live.” Nona said as she watched the cat slink away. She then turned back to the two toms from her clan, whose gazes were full of shock.

“What?”

“You really are her daughter.” One tom commented.

“I am SO sorry I struck you.” The other one replied. “I'm just so tired and so hungry.”

“That is okay! I will get a really, really cool scar; I think...” Nona smiled. “Let's get back home though. I will uh… say I fell or something if you guys don't tell mom I did that.”

“Works for us.”

But… they had no intention of keeping her secret. A kit with no fear and only love in the face of danger was too amazing to bury in secrecy.

—--

The next few days would serve as a test - a test to see if Nona’s negotiation with a cat whom towered over her kit body would honor their word, and it seemed as though they had.

The prey pile stood higher than normal, and the herbs present in the forest would soon grow back, allowing the medicine cats to restock without fear of not having enough to find.

Nona, in the time since the encounter, had her wound cleaned, and a cobweb bandage draped across it. Now, it was time for her mother to find out the truth, but not from her.

Nona’s mother approached the two toms who had previously been quarreling, seemingly ready to interrogate them. But, she was more curious than anything.

“How did you guys get those cats to stop hunting here?” She would inquire, her gaze locked on the two toms, who exchanged a look of “uh oh”. “That is not the look I want to see. Talk.”

Nona’s mother wasn’t exactly a deputy, but she might as well be. With a gaze that rivaled Medusa’s and a tongue lined like a viper’s, most of the clan respected her just as much. “Well.. you see.. Uh…”

“It was Nona!”

“Eh? What do you mean it was Nona?” Her mother asked with a squint.

“I mean it was Nona, Leda. She apparently followed us while we were on patrol.”

“AND YOU LET HER!?” Leda hissed, her hissing quickly silenced by witnessing the tom’s ears pin back. She knew it was not his choice, merely from his body language.

“No she uhm.. followed us out. Without either of us noticing.” The tom admitted begrudgingly.

“You mean a kit outsmarted you?” Leda said with a chuckle. “I guess my little lessons have paid off. But, still, what do you mean?”

“We actually came across a cat from the clan that’s been stealing our resources. And just as I was about to attack, Nona jumped in front of the strike and took it. That is why her nose is bandaged currently - it was not from a fall as she told you, it was from me. I felt so bad, and really wanted to tell you, but Nona asked for me to keep it secret from you.”

“Okay… that still does not explain how Nona was involved. How did she stop the prey sources from drying up?”

“She just told the stranger how it was. Told them that they needed to hunt outside of the borders, and that we deserved to live just as much as he did. The stranger… took it surprisingly well. I think he didn’t want to rebuttal or argue with a kit. Truthfully, if Nona wasn’t there… I think that encounter would’ve gone down far worse.

“Really?” Leda glanced over her shoulder towards the medicine den, where Nona and another kit were playing outside of it, seemingly oblivious to the tense conversation just nearby them. “She is so reckless.”

“She is just like you. That’s why you don’t like it.” The tom mumbled, audibly squeaking as Leda looked back at him scornfully, before her gaze softened.

“Thank you for telling me.” Leda sighed. “I hope she doesn’t make any more decisions like that.”

“You know she will.”

Marsh Clan | Last Explore| Last Response Received | Second Free Post

It was a surprisingly full patrol, all things considered. It was originally only going to be Bramble, Specter, and Dawn, but then Mottle and Bright decided to volunteer given the weather lately may have made things scarce, and of course where Bright was, Blaze was quick to follow. It’s not that there was anything wrong with having a full patrol, if anything it was heart warming that their clan that had once been so few was now so full. But Bramble had hoped to be spared from the reminder that even as her clan grew she still managed to feel a bit more lonely as time passed.

She still had her dear friends of course, but with their hearts elsewhere and herself as the leader of their clan, she was often left by herself. This thought lingered as she was left to walk ahead alone, with Mottle, Dawn, and Specter chatting to her left, and Blaze and Bright huddled against one another on her right. She was so happy that Blaze had met Bright and found such a steadfast partner in her, honestly. In fact she wouldn’t have her life any other way, unless she could find someone like that for herself.

With nothing but her own thoughts for company, Bramble couldn’t help but think back to the peculiar set of gifts she’d received not too long ago, wondering who they were from. Perhaps they were just meant to be a sign of respect for her as the leader, but she secretly hoped not. Maybe she should find time to travel and talk to Goldenhour, they might be able to offer some advice. It’s not that she wasn’t happy not being in a relationship; she had wonderful friends and family, and continued to accomplish more than she’d ever imagined she could when she was younger. But still, it would be nice to have a shoulder just for her to lean on too.

Especially as she found herself stepping on something foul, heart immediately jumping out of her chest. Recoiling back, she was relieved when it didn’t stick to her paws. At least it wasn’t anything too foul, and miraculously she didn’t yelp. Nevertheless, everyone immediately stopped and gathered around to stare at the odd orange sort of square she’d stepped on. It was stuck to a branch, smelled questionable, and looked even more so questionable as it appeared unchanged despite her stepping on it.

“Perhaps we should bring it to Wahoo, seeing how close we are to the water. Maybe it’s theirs?” Specter suggested, closing in on her left side to get a better look and sniff.

With a decisive nod, Bramble responded,” That’s a good idea; as soon as our patrol is over, I’ll take it to them. He’d at least appreciate whatever it is, I’m sure.” Peering down reluctantly, she was not especially inclined to grab the branch, but she prepared to go for it anyway.

Specter nodded in turn then said,” We can go together, I’ll go ahead and carry the stick so it doesn’t get lost while we finish up patrol.” Eyeing it, he carefully picked up the branch at the point farthest from the substance, careful to point it away from Bramble.

“Thank you Specter, that sounds like a nice plan. If you want to trade off at some point just let me know.” Bramble said, relieved she wouldn’t have to touch it for the time being at least, and otherwise glad that they’d be going together. It was an unusual trek to find Wahoo, and rarely fun if unaccompanied. Regardless, for now it was time to get back to the patrol.

Including writing for your explore post is optional! However, the more you write, the more experience (XP) you earn. You may also pretty this up if you'd like, or change the coding, however, make sure everything that is originally on here remains on here (see this handy checklist to help you out) c:

The small group of three had just set out towards the Western quarter of the lands. It was a rather sizeable area, so they had been allotted a couple days for their journeys to check on the area. With Darian as the more experienced of the three, he had been put in charge. Levelheaded in intense situations but with a touch of humor, he was growing to become a good leader someday.

Darian glanced over at Farra. They had been romantic recently at a festival, but since Farra has acted as if nothing has really changed. Darian had asked about it to one of his friends. They told him it was normal in this clan at this age to not have permanent relationships form at festivals as it's not the greatest basis for long term connection. Regardless, he was still attracted to her, but he would respect her wishes and treat her as a hunting partner and nothing more unless she asked.

During Darian's musings, Farra had been talking to Junior about his days recently as it had been a while since they were on a hunting party together. He was a competent hunter, but occasionally clueless about things she saw as common.

"You tried trout with cheese?" Farra asked as she glanced at Junior in slight disgust, "Why?"

"Oh yeah! It was actually pretty good," Junior said happily as he hopped over a fallen log, "Sunny suggested it."

Farra rolled her eyes while avoiding a sizeable puddle. "Of course it was Sunny.. pretty sure it was another of his pranks, but no harm done I guess.."

"What was that?" Junior asked distractedly catching a light scent nearby.

"Oh nothing~" Farra said trotting a little faster to catch up to Darian. He had been getting a small bit ahead as they were talking.

Rounding the bend of a gathering of trees, they all pawsed.

"It seems we will need to find a way around this," Darina said already looking for a pass. There had been a mudslide in the last rainfall and the way was a touch difficult now. "We'll need to get a message back to the clan about this before anyone wanders into this and gets stuck."

As Junior carefully looked about, he mentioned "Wasn't Cliff supposed to be passing through this area recently? Perhaps we could ask him?"

Farra looked over the downed trees pensively, "If he's okay.."

Darian spotted a log they could cross to a more level area. "If I remember correctly, there should be a fishing spot a short ways north of here. Let's head that way." The other two nodded and together they headed off.

Sunrise and Frost bound across the grassy hills near the Second Camp. Small white and yellow flowers blurred past them as the two raced the other. Soon they both saw it, the tallest hill with the tallest tree. Both sped up, trying to beat the other, the wind blowing rapidly through their fur.

    "I win!" Frost cheered.
    "No you didn't!"
As the two stood there panting and arguing over who won, Sunrise glances up to see two shadowy figures off on another distant hill.
    "Frost...." he whispered.
"Hm?" She responded, distracted by a butterfly. She looked over at him, and then to where he was standing.
    "Oh....."

    "... Friends?" she asked hopefully.
"We'll see. Let's go get Nightstar and someone else. Just in case."

Nightstar sat in camp with The Council, made up of himself, Maple Syrup, and Apple. Frost and Sunrise's grandmothers, Heatherbreeze and Petal, were also there. Sunrise asked Frost to stay back, as to not be too intrusive.
    "Hello," he greeted quietly.
    They all turned to him.
"What is it, Sunrise? Something happen?" Nightstar questioned.
"Frost and I saw a couple of cats off in the distance past the Tree Hill. Just wanted to ask if we can bring another cat or two to investigate."
"Well, alright," he started. "I'll go, and we can take Chocolate Milkshake as well."
As Nightstar prepared himself to go out, Sunrise and Frost went to find Chocolate. They checked the main den, but no sign. They checked the empty trainee den, nothing. They checked Apple's den, maybe she was injured? No.
The two venture out to the dirtplace, just in case. Back there they find her with another cat???
    "Who are you?" Sunrise growled.
"It's okay!" Chocolate replied. "He's one of my old friends from when I was a house cat. His name is Wahoo"
"Right," Sunrise said. "Well, you should have let us known he was here, don't you think?"
"Oh I didn't know he was coming, silly. Sometimes he pops up to see if I have any trinkets for him to trade. We call them our little sacrifices."
Sunrise mentally bashed his head against the main den wall. "Right.. Well can you finish up, we need to go investigate some random cats past the Tree Hill.
"Okay!" Chocolate Milkshake rummaged through the dense bush next to her, before pulling out... what in the world? Sunrise had no idea what he was looking at.
"Chocolate, I think you're out of your mind. What is that?" His face scrunched up in disgust. It smelled awful.
"It's cheese!" She said with a big, big smile. "My people used to give me bits here and there. It's tasty, want some?" She shoved the cheese towards Sunrise.
    "Uhm, no. I'm good."
"Okay!" She prompty shoved the cheese towards Wahoo, who immediately somehow shoves it into his thin fur and scurries off without a goodbye.

Nightstar, Sunrise, Frost, and Chocolate reach the Tree Hill, to see two figures still standing in almost the exact same spot. As if they were waiting for the cats? Sunrise sighs. Today has been strange enough, let's just get this over with.
As they approached closer, they could see a brown tabby with white and a reddish-black cat with a white ear. Both stared unblinkingly ahead at the group.
Once the group got close enough, the red one began talking. "Hello friends!" They started. "My name is Maplefrost. This is my friend, Omen's Cry. We are here to inform you that you have won a free vacation to a remote island, far, far away. Everything has been paid for by-" It stops. Maplefrost stares ahead unblinkingly.
Omen's Cry blinks a couple times, looking around. "Where.. am I?" they ask.
Sunrise stares. "Uh. Tribe territory. Is- is your friend alright?"
Omen's Cry turns to Maplefrost. "Uhm. I don't know who that is, honestly. I don't even know how I got here. The last thing I remember is this really large furless being poking me and I fell asleep. How- how long ago was that???"
Sunrise began sensing a rising existential crisis and nudges up against Omen. He feels their breathing slow and a small purr form. His own heart flutters for just a moment. They stay standing side-by-side for a few moments before Sunrise realizes that may be a few too many moments and takes a step sideways, flustered.
"I know what that being was!!!" cried out Chocolate Milkshake. "That was a person! A human! I used to live with one before it didn't come home!"
Chocolate Milkshake is too cheerful, Sunrise thought.
"Well," Nightstar said, stepping forward. "You're welcome to spend a few days with us as you get a hold on your surroundings."
Omen's Cry looked at him gratefully. "Thank you, you are kind."
The five walked back to camp, as Maplefrost's body continued staring unblinkingly, unbreathing, still as a statue, fur barely ruffled by the wind.

Frost, heading to bed, found Sunrise and Omen's Cry curled together in the darkest corner of the den, clearly trying to stay hidden from sight for the most part. She smiled and took Sunrise's nest on the opposite side of the den before drifting off to sleep.

Omen's Cry has been at the Tribe camp for a few days now. Sunrise sticks to them like a lost kit, making sure their every need and want is met. They typically wake up to prey and Sunrise always walks with them everywhere. To "protect them from danger" as they say. Danger within the camp? Hard to believe, they always think to themselves.

Sunrise woke up, feeling for the familiar prescence of Omen. He turned around and. GONE??? He leaped up out of their nest and searched the camp.
"They went for a walk," called Apple from across the camp.
"Thank you!" He shouted in return.
Sunrise began sniffing outside of camp, picking up their sweet, leafy scent easily. He followed it quickly, sniffing aggressively. Too busy following the scent....
    THUD
He ran into a tree. He shakes his head before sniffing the tree. THEY CAN CLIMB??? he thought to himself. Panicked, he quickly scaled the tree, following their scent to the near tops of the trees. Looking around, nothing. No sign. And the scent was basically lost amongst all the other leafy tree smells.
He gets to the very top, as high as he can go, and pokes his head out over the top leaves. And he sees them. Or, rather, their ear tufts and ear tips..
    "Omen!" he called out.
Omen's Cry poked their head up higher and turned around. "Oh. Hi! Sorry, needed some fresh air."
Sunrise finally makes his way over to Omen before forcefully shoving his head into their thick neck fluff and purring louded. "You worried me!" he cried out. He took a step back. "What if something happened to you?"
Omen sighed. "I can take care of myself, yknow. Before that whole thing with the... human? was it? I lived basically alone for years. But I have to admit, being with the tribe the past several days has been a nice change of pace."
Sunrise gave her ear a lick. "Alright, well. Just tell me next time. I'm sorry I've been smothering."
"It's alright, it's cute," Omen teased.
Sunrise felt his face up to his ear tips heat up. "Uh, yeah, ok, uhm... I-I'm gonna go-.. go back to camp now," he managed to mutter out.
"No, alright. I'll humor you, let's go hunt." Omen leapt gracefully down the tree while Sunrise may have fallen down a branch here or there. Eventually they both reached the ground alive.
The two complimented each other well with hunting. While Sunrise was really good at startling the birds, Omen's powerful jump made up for it. They brought back a nice haul of four birds to camp, before the two settled down to share one.

908 words wrote:Well that was one heck of a proposition. Skyfire waffled for a moment. On one paw, she had very little of value as she was just settling in. Her hunting expedition had only resulted in nesting material and she’d just given up a meal for no good reason save her own curiosity. On the other paw, her heart bled for another cat in need. Besides, the offer of something in return sounded pretty good…

“Give me a second, I might have something in my bag.” Skyfire slung the bag off her shoulder and started rummaging through. Moss… moss… lots of moss, goodness. She and Poppy were going to sleep well tonight!

Aha! There, at the bottom of the bag, was a single medicinal herb. Borage, she’s pretty sure. Carefully, she teased it out and inspected it for damage. Satisfied that it was in decent enough condition, Skyfire offered it to Fennel.

“Here. It’s all I have, but I hope it helps!”

Yesterday’s moss was comfortable, she had to admit. Poppy seemed to think so too, considering how much of it he stole for his nest. Good. Better for him to be comfortable then not.

Unfortunately, while he was still able to fly off and find something to eat, she didn’t have all that much left in the way of food. Plus considering yesterday’s hunting expedition was a bust and it was the middle of leaf-bare, she was at a proper disadvantage. Bother. Skyfire’d wanted to go explore more of the train tracks, but that’d have to wait until after a proper meal. Besides, as yesterday had proven the tracks were good for weird encounters but terrible for hunting.

Ah well, time to trek downhill into the woods. Skyfire fluffed up her fur, adjusted her satchel, and set off onto a grand adventure.

Or, y’know. Hunting.

Much to her surprise, the sound of rushing water grew louder and louder the further she went from the station. Not quite the ocean she grew up near, but rather… was that a river?

She crept towards the sound and found - yup, a river! Wait, this must be the one the old train cats had told her about. Maybe she’d have good hunting along the banks, even in this snowy weather.

As she hunted, Skyfire caught the whiff of a vaguely familiar scent. Was that? No, it couldn’t be. She’d left the Seaside Clans far behind years ago. Her own scent didn’t even smell like the ocean breeze, let alone WildfireClan.

Quick as a flash, she dropped down into some bushes. She needed to analyze the scent, and fast…

Okay. Although it was definitely a Seaside scent, saltwater wasn’t nearly so present as it would be if they’d just left. Maybe a couple moons? But how could that be; Skyfire’d been travelling for years?

She could swear she knew this cat. Were they family? No, there was no touch of WildfireClan on them. Not fishy enough for FloodClan… ooh, it was hard to tell the difference between Quake and Avalanche Clans, but if she dug through her memory archives QuakeClan seemed the closest match.

Okay. Who did she remember from her first year from QuakeClan? The leader? No, Owlstar would never have left. The medicine cat? They’d certainly visited once or twice…

A brilliant white face peeked into the bushes and Skyfire was hit with the most embarrassing gathering memories her sister used to tease her for.

“Who- Skyfire?” Vixenspark asked.

Skyfire felt her face burn as she stared into the eyes of her apprenticehood crush. Goodness, she’s even prettier all grown up. Those golden eyes had meant everything to her once upon a time, long before everything fell to pieces.

“...Vixenspark? What are you doing here?” she mewed, eyes wide.

Vixenspark laughed, equally baffled. “I could say the same to you! One gathering you and your sister became warriors and the next you both disappear into the ether, even after all the twoleg nonsense was done. What the heck happened?”

Skyfire coughed, dragging herself out of the bushes and shaking off all the leaves. “Oh, uh… short version is Firewind was taken by twolegs and by the time I found where they’d taken all the others she was gone. I’ve been looking for her ever since, but… I had to stop. What about you?”

“Oh. I’m sorry.” Vixenspark gave her a gentle lick on the shoulder, brushing a leaf to the side. “Er… well… there was a prophecy and I was on a quest with some others but then we got super separated and I got lost half a moon ago and… yeah. It’s not… great.”

“Ah.” Both cats were silent for a moment, lost in the overwhelming feeling of meeting an old friend unexpectedly.

So they were both in crappy situations. On one paw, Skyfire would have another mouth to feed. On the other, perhaps with two of them they might be able to find something. Perhaps they could get to know each other again after so long apart. And who knows? Maybe dumb apprentice love could turn into something else.

“Tell you what,” Skyfire said, breaking the silence. “I reckon neither of us have had a good meal in a while, so how about we hunt up a meal and I’ll take you to where I’m staying? Share stories, figure out what happens next, all that good stuff.”

“That sounds perfect, actually. I’m so, so glad I ran into you.”

Sproutstar ducked his head to avoid the lo hanging branches above the camp entrance with Bramblestrike and Ivyblossom following close behind. Most of the clan was still sound asleep as the sun had just begun to peek above the horizon. Leafbare had been particularly harsh this season and Sproutstar had been out as much as he could with his warriors to find prey and herbs. "We should try down by the river, near Petalclan's border. With it being frozen maybe prey has crossed over," Bramblestrike suggested, shouldering past Sproutstar to take the lead.

The broad tom had always been quite headstrong with little care to act like his leader was better than himself. Bramblestrike carried himself with an air of arrogance surrounding himself much to the rest of his clanmates' dismay. His bright green gaze bore holes into Sproutstar's pelt as he bounced from side to side, snow crunching softly under his heavy paws.

Fluffing up his pelt to try and block out the cold air Sproutstar's ears twitched, in intrigue or irritation was to be determined. "I think that's a good idea, let's just be careful to not cross into their territory this time Bramblestrike," Sproutstar mewed glaring at the warrior ahead of him.

"Enough you two, by the time we get going all the prey will be gone," Ivyblossom's soft voice cut into the conversation, her tail brushing against Sproutstar's flank gently to soothe her leader.

With silent nods of agreement the patrol set south to the river in hopes of a successful morning patrol.
