What would your coral be if not a coral?:

Amour was caught off-guard by this question. In all of the time she’d spent imagining vivid ideas and concepts for Vivian, she’d never thought of what on earth the invertebrate would be as an animal. The buttermilk pondered for a while on what her response should be to that question.

Maybe some sort of bird? She’s definitely free-spirited. Nope, not a bird. I don’t think that they’re quite social enough, and I’ve never pictured Vivian as a big traveler.

She could possibly be a sheep? Sheep are definitely social. They’re huge herd animals, and typically don’t stray far from home. However, I just feel like sheep don’t have the energy and outgoing personality that radiates from my little one, but I’m definitely getting closer. Maybe some sort of exotic animal would work in terms of aura.

An elephant? She’s definitely always the elephant in the room, constantly longing for attention from anyone, but that’s not quite it. She’s not outgoing in a loud way. She just wants to make friends and learn, in a curious way. Wait, I got it!

Vivian would be a monkey! Amour beamed brightly with enthusiasm, she’d finally found an answer. Her coral would make the perfect primate: Active and energetic, large network of friends and family, socially outgoing, curious but quite sedentary. She’s always searching for more attention and acquaintances, and willing to hang out with anyone; she loves to learn from others.

Confident in her answer, Amour finally looked up and met Enke’s waiting stare. “She’d be a monkey.”

 Pippin stared into the tank deep in thought, pondering Eirwen's question.
 "What would Cbi be...if Cni wasn't a coral?" she repeated, trying to give herself more time to think. "Hm...I think it would be a......turtle?" Eirwen wad extremely surprised by her answer.
 "Woah, really? I expected you to say something fluffy and mainstream like a kitten or a puppy. Why a turtle of all things?" she asked in return, genuinely curious about Pippin's choice.
 "Well...Cni doesn't move around a whole lot, it sits there watching us like a turtle sitting on a log. Plus it really likes to swim, too."
 "What about a frog, then?" Eirwen challenged. "Don't they like to swim too? And they sit pretty still."

 At that, Pippin scoffed.
 "Yeah, well turtles are way cooler than frogs." Pippin wasn't a huge fan of frogs. After a...certain incident, she was actually pretty afraid of them, although she'd never admit it.
 "Nuh uh, frogs are better."
 "Frogs are gross."
 "You're gro-" Eirwen was cut off by a phone ringing from her pocket. Pulling it out she smiled in surprise, immediately answering. "Hey, Catherine! What's up?" Pippin waited expectantly, resting her head on her hands. "Yeah. We've been having lots of fun! Pippin is here so I'm going to put you on speaker phone, okay?" With the press of a button, Catherine's voice rung out across the room.
 "Hey, Pippin! I hope you've been enjoying the resort. I miss you guys a lot." Pippin grinned hearing her voice again. It had been a few days since they had last heard from Catherine.
 "Oh, we love it here!" Pippin said enthusiastically. "We wish you could be here with us!"
 "Good, I'm glad you like it. I wish I could be there!" Catherine replied. "And how's Cni?"
 "Great! Actually, we could use your help settling a debate. If Cni wasn't a coral, would it be a turtle or a frog?" the girl asked, expecting her side to win as she gave Eirwen a sly look.
 "Neither. Cni would be a jellyfish. They're pretty closely related."
 "What?! No way! Cni would never be that!"

What would your coral be if not a coral?:

If not a coral, it is difficult to say what ha’awina nua would be instead. He is certainly above being a human, for they are too preoccupied with gaining the upper hand that they often forget about more important matters. Too distracted, he would think. Perhaps a plant though? A tall looming tree, or even a simple blade of grass? Coral couldn't be that different from plants, right? Wrong, of course. He'd feel himself above that as well, destined for something more active, like the tiny creatures living upon his exterior, allowing him to grow. So an animal then, is what he must be, but which creature? Something strong, yet proud- a horse? No, too domestic. He'd be something that commands attention- a lion, king of the jungle? No, too brutish.

Perhaps, what he would be is a peacock. A gorgeous showy creature, unconcerned with life around it, yet absolutely captivating, garnering attention wherever it stepped. Yes, a peacock is certainly what ha'awina nua would be. He would own the role well, strutting around and showing off his luxurious plumage, going about his day knowing without a doubt that he would be the focal point of any event. To wield so much power with just an appearance is his game, and anyone who would look upon him would be playing.

"What would my coral be if it weren't a coral?" Mia repeats, an incredulous look spreading across her features. How on earth could he be serious? What kind of question was that even?

"Oh, I forgot you have no imagination," Enke responds dryly, going on about his exhaustive care routine for his precious corals without so much as looking in her direction, "So I suppose it's not surprising you can't answer my question about your coral."

"Maui! His name is Maui!" she snapped, furrowing her brow. "And I do have an imagination!" Mia huffed, glaring at the man who, in all honesty, took no mind of her outburst. So she watched as Enke continued to go about caring for his coral, still glaring heavily at him with her arms folded as he continued on. To tell the truth, Mia was hoping he would see her giving him that scathing glare and feel - 'Well scathed,' she thought, sucking her teeth to make a quiet tsk sound.

Obviously, Enke wasn't going to pay any attention to her antics, so she did the only thing anyone could do in that situation: she stormed out of the hut.

Mia was in such a state that she actually managed to march herself all the way back to her suite at the resort before she realized where she was. And, once there, she opened the door and plopped down heavily on her bed, eyes drifting towards Maui.

'What would you be if you weren't a coral?' she thought, squinting in concentration as she tried to imagine it.

Then, all at once, it came to her: a butterfly.

Butterflies are gentle, beautiful, and easily damaged - like little Maui. "And they also had the potential to have a profound impact not only on nature, but even on time itself," she mumbled, just as Sorrel entered the room.

"What has that big of an impact?"

"Butterflies."

Sorrel stood there, staring at her with mouth open, "What?"

Mia sat up straight and gave her friend a judgemental look and a light tsk, "Haven't you heard of the butterfly effect?"

bluebell ponders the question, as she gazes into azurina’s tank. she had a huge imagination, and could almost place herself in dreams, as she thought up scenes. “well, she’s the majestic type, bold, in your face but humble...”
she pauses for a moment, and finally the light bulb in her head goes off. “she’d be a purple starling! one of the most beautiful creatures in the world, other than azurina of course.”
purple starlings are really the stars of the show, as they shine brightly with their glossy metallic feathers, reflecting shades of royal blue, ultra violet, and deep greens. like azurina, humbly vibrant. they are quite noisy birds, giving off the more outgoing type.
enke nods. “that might be the first thing i can agree with you on, bluebell. also, quite impressive bird knowledge.”
bluebell blushes. “thank you enke, it means a lot to hear that from you.”
bluebell was fascinated by the thought of a companion like azurina, but as a purple starling. as each day went by, bluebell wished more and more that azurina was really with her. “wouldn’t she just be so perfect enke? if she was really with us?”
“i do think that she would be good for you, and maybe keep you more occupied.. with your talking.”
bluebell rolls her eyes and trots away. “well, we’ll see you tomorrow enke!”

“If Theodosia were to be anything else other than a coral, she would definitely be a woman of the 1900s. The puffy dresses, the big hats, and the elegant way of speaking that has since been seemingly lost to our generation.” Penelope pondered out loud. Enke groaned inwardly. “She’s the type that would definitely be a really good house wife, happy to do whatever is necessary to keep her home in good working order,” she continued. “Blonde hair, blue eyes, porcelain skin and rosy cheeks... I can see it. Can you see it?” Enke nodded over enthusiastically, hoping that penny would catch his uninterested hint. Penelope stuck her tongue out at him, and turned back to her coral. “We see it.”

A question was suddenly brought up to Surya. She thought of it real hard on the question that was given to her "What would my coral be if it's not a coral?" She thought of many animals, humans, items but could not think of anything at all. Then she thought of a plant, something that's similar to the coral. Then a sudden thought came up her mind, a big hydrangea! She was able to see one while taking a stroll, it was in front of a small flower shop. She remembers it very well, bright blue petals, soft and beautiful, a very long stem holding up such a pretty decor on top. Surya thought of a hydrangea because it reminded her of how a coral grows into a humongous beauty, the flower was like a coral but on land. With her question answered, she felt embarrassed by it because it's like the coral didn't change into something different, it was still the same but she was already satisfied with it. She went towards her big tank and stared at her growing coral, it was slowly but surely growing big and it brought her such happiness just thinking about it. She silently wished it to grow big and strong, and went back to work yet again.

My coral would be a star. For they have seen the world from the oceans perspective, but having been stuck under water, they would love to be up amongst the planets seeing the world from a different view. They would love to watch the solar system pass by, watching the earth grow and blossom. They would love the wide open area, the quiet and calm of life as it rolls on, seeing the northern lights, the seasons come and go. My coral would appreciate the opportunity for a quiet life as they revolve with other planets orbiting the sun, feeling the warmth and seeing all of the sights from above.

Avalon smiled.
“Just like Melusine. Half serpent, half human. Dainty little wings with twin tails.” Looking at Enke, he blushes when he realises how strange that must sound.
“It sounds ridiculous, I know. I’m just so inlove with the folklore...” He looked at his coral and his embarrassed pout melted back into a soft smile. She may not be the biggest coral, but she was definitely one of the prettiest he'd ever seen. "She'd be a beautiful spirit of the sea."

He turned his gaze to the floor and tilted his head awkwardly when he realised he didn't know what else to say. Avalon was usually full of words and pointless ramblings but... he fell short of this. He looked at Melusine and realised it was because all this time, he had painted her to be a clone of a mythical being.

"Perhaps not, however."
Looking up at Enke, he beamed a radiant smile as he started to chat away.
"Melusine would be an independent, elegant woman. She'd have a distinct Welsh accent, and would smell of the fresh breeze off the whitewash of the ocean. She'd be short, but have an athletic build. She'd know how to handle herself."
Avalon finally seemed content with his description, and knelt down to his coral and tilted his head in adoration of her pink hues.
"You may not be the tallest, or the one that stands out the most - but you know you're a princess, don't you, Melusine?"
He giggled, knowing that she'd confidently agree, despite not being able to talk.

Pisces thought about the questions for a few minutes, her brows furrowing as she tried to come up with an answer. After a few minutes of deliberation, she looks up and gives A small smile.

“If my coral was anything but a coral, I think he would be a lion. His charms would get all the ladies, but at the same time, he would respect them as individuals; care for them and protect them. He would fight with everything he had to make sure his friends and family stayed safe and happy.”

Pisces laughed, somewhat satisfied with her answer. Turning back to her coral, she began to check his temperature and water concentration.
