Void Fellows! based on this drawing by LemoWuff
by Error @ Sun Jun 15, 2025 6:31 pm [Reply]

I haven’t drawn in three days and I needed to draw something. Saw this competition and thought the species was cute! So I gave it a try.
Finished entry. It includes: adult base, adolescent slug child, and an egg. I redrew the Hive BG because I thought the concept was neat. I didn’t delete any of the other layers so all the things are there.

these creatures are so cute! i love the slug child the most :3 <3

    Yep! I added you.

Delta

A handsome young bachelor, Delta was first seen on the edges of the plateau, causing trouble for nearby stallions. Terrifyingly intelligent with a michievous streak to boot, the young stud became a hindrance to not only lead stallions and their herds, but also to other bachelors, and any humans in the nearby area. Playful and boyish, he seemed to have no interest in "growing up" and attaining a herd of his own, but otherwise showed all of the trademark signs of the perfect Oasis mustang. Agile and quick, Delta was able to evade capture, moving along the rocky edges of the plateau with an amazing surefootedness exceptional for even the other mustangs.

But, also with the telltale stubbornness of his breed, Delta also didn't know when to quit.

Stories and updates on the stallion's shenanigans quickly went viral on the internet for months until one day he suddenly vanished, sparking an online outrage to find the beloved Mustang. It took almost a week for a Ranger team to find him hidden in a tiny alcove of the mountainside, his left foreleg sprained and the poor stallion barely able to walk. It took some time, but his lack of aggression allowed the Rangers to help him, bracing his leg and moving him into a holding facility for veterinary care.

By the time the stallion had healed enough to be released, the coy Mustang had grown accustomed to the pampering and popularity. Multiple release attempts later and he continued to return for his favorite apple cookies, and the facility finally agreed to domesticate him to become a Mustang Ambassador.

Astel

Astel was bred in captivity from a long line of show barbs, known for their competitive disposition and flashy coats. He led a pampered foalhood, spoiled rotten and adored up until the day he became a yearling; from there, training began, and he relished in the challenge and discipline. By the time he was three, he was taking Junior classes by storm, excelling in both show jumping and dressage. By five, Astel had already made a name for himself on the International Circuit, out competing even some of the finest warmbloods and even many of the Thoroughbreds, despite being a touch shorter than most of his competitors.

Now at seven, his owners have started backing him off the more intensive circuits, unwilling to risk his health as he starts to get older. He does still compete, as that's his one true love in life, just on smaller international circuits with longer rest periods between. Due to his success and talent, Astel now also excels as a stud, hopefully producing the next line of Barb competitors to take the world by storm.

Isabella

Much less dramatic than she would have you believe, Isabella was actually born in captivity.

Her mother, a stunning mare with a coat almost white as snow, was captured and brought into a holding facility for a broken leg she'd sustained running from illegal poachers. When the mare was brought in, no one had any idea she was pregnant until one of the vets noticed the rapid weight gain and increased appetite. Sure enough, one blood test later, and they were expecting a new little Barb.

When Isabella was born, the entire facility fawned over her. Her mother's injury made the mare ineligible for release, and due to that, the staff feared that Isabella would be too domesticated come time for her own release. So instead they slowly began to tame her, bit by bit, to prepare the filly for a life as an Ambassador. Unfortunately they ended up creating a prissy and spoiled mare who expects people to bow at her feet and lavish her in attention 24/7.

Zanzibar

Born malnourished and underweight, Zanzibar was rejected by his mother from the beginning.

The young colt was just within the viability period when drought-like weather conditions descended upon his little valley. The Rangers still don't know why his mother went into labor so early, but when she gave birth, a team was on a higher ridgeline studying the new herd. It was unknown if she was a first time mother, or maybe if the stress of horrible weather and new locations drove her to give birth too early; regardless, by evening, the mare had left young Zanzibar to fend for himself. He was too weak to even attempt to follow his natal herd.

Once he was brought into the facility, Zanzibar showed just how much he was willing to fight to live, despite all of the odds stacking against him. Constantly sickly, the veterinarian was constantly coming to check on him, administer medication, and splint his legs to ensure they developed correctly. Many times, the staff were afraid that they would lose him entirely. But he fought with everything his little body had, and slowly grew into a strong, sweet young stallion that quickly became the staff's star Ambassador.

    O Captain My Captain
    Call Name: Captain
    Coat Color: seal bay tovero
    Gender: stallion
    Age: 10 years

    History:
Captain has been known since he was first spotted in a band of bachelors. Around the age of three at that time, he was the strongest of the five older colts that roamed together. After a particularly rough drought, his band of bachelors dropped down to three, two unfortunately lost to cruelty of nature. Years passed, the three stallions grew older until the other two left and started their own herds. Captain stayed alone, a rogue stallion who didn't seem to have interest in starting his own herd. His fame circulated the net for being the rogue stallion- the one who chose no mate. Unlike other rogue stallions, he didn't pick fights, didn't steal mares and led a rather docile life.

He was a rather curious fellow, spending time following the odd twolegged creatures that photographed him and the herd that lived nearby. Among this group of photographers was a young adult who spent their own time following just Captain. They were the first to notice that the stallion began to move more cautiously, hoof steps becoming unsteady as summer turned to fall and then into winter. During a routine round up of wilds to give them dewormers and check their health, the photographer pointed out how Captain stood in his pen so still, just swaying his head back and forth. A vet quickly checked him over and realized that the blue-eyed stallion was losing his vision due to a genetic defect.

Heartbroken, the team decided to keep him in captivity where he would be safer against predators and other more violent rogue stallions. The photographer went about adopting him, and he became an ambassador for the mustangs that roamed the grassy hill lands. Now, he spends his time greeting visitors at the facility, being known for being the gentlest of stallions, accepting apples as treats.

    Smoke & Mirrors
    Call Name: Mirage
Coat Color: silver buttermilk buckskin blanket appaloosa
    Gender: mare
    Age: roughly six years

    History:
Mirage's origins are unclear. She was first noticed as a young filly within a northern herd, sporting a fluffy dark coat with white legs. As a filly, she was quick witted and evaded all humans- she would always be just out of reach, but also investigating everything. She earned her name after an attempt was made to capture her and some of her herd-mates. Using the fog to her advantage, she was able to lead her friends away and into a secret hiding spot as if they never had existed.

Years later, she was spotted within the same herd, now the official lead mare with a bay colt at her side. Environmentalists documented the herd from a safe distance, giving her the respect she deserved. She became recognized, famous among the youth for using her cunning to stupe all those who tried to capture her. This changed though after a horrible accident. A hunter in the forest had laid a trap using barbed wire, with the plans of catching some boars that had escaped from a farm and had been trampling through the undergrowth. Mirage was leading her herd, and got caught in the trap, her foreleg becoming quickly tangled. For once, she couldn't run from humans. A young adult who spent many years following her herd and documenting her noticed her in the bind almost immediately. With the help of a veterinarian, they were able to free the mare.

Unfortunately, the damage was too extreme, and they were forced to take her back to a sanctuary where they could fully heal and restrengthen her leg using a variety of techniques. The online community was in an outrage, and through their cries, hunting was banned in the area where Mirage's herd lived. By the time she was healed, another mare took her place as the lead, using the same cunning tricks she used in the past. With a somber decision, the person who had rescued her decided it was best to adopt her and keep her within a sanctuary where she was able to join a small band of other rescues and become the face of the Oasis Drafts- to spread the word and gain the support to continue to protect her herd and other wilds out there that still roamed free.

Flaxen Chestnut

Buck had always wanted to be a parade horse like those used on television advertising the weird drinks humans liked. He loved watching how the horses worked together to pull the wagon and how they pranced along. They looked so proud in their harnesses. Never did he imagine that he was going to be chosen to be a parade wagon horse. He and a few others would go through rigorous training to be able to work together as a team to pull wagons. Once months of training had finished it was time for their first parade and boy did Buck ever love it. He enjoyed the grooming, the special tack, and even the weight of the wagon that he and several others pulled. This was what he was born for. This was what he was meant to do. He loved the sounds of the parade music and the cheers of the crowd. Though he also liked when it was finished and a small boy would run to him and tell him it was time to go home. He liked this small boy. It was his job to keep him safe and he did it well.

Strawberry Roan with blue eyes

Oh that strawberry roan, how Jewel loved that song. Sure she was not living out west and she was no sleek fast horse but she still loved that song. And why wouldn't she when she too was a strawberry roan. She loved moving and dancing to music which was perfect for the job she was set out to do. She was a vaulting horse and her owner Chloe had already made a name for herself as a vaulting champion. With Chloe's careful work and instruction, Jewel would soon be known as a champion vaulting horse. She absolutely loved the crowds and enjoyed showing off. She might be a heavy set horse but she looked elgant when dancing to the music as Chloe did her gymnastics on her back. After her performance, she would bow down to the judges compiled with Chloe doing a graceful bow on her back as well. Then Chloe would ride her out and they would wait for the judging. Sometimes it was good and sometimes it was bad. It didn't matter to Jewel as long as Chloe was happy.

Blood Bay With Sabino [not sure how well the sabino came out sorry]

Olivia had always been a frisky filly. She loved playing in the snow. When she was just a yearling, some kids tied her to a slight weight sled to teach her how to pull. Her owners even joked she broke to the sled before she was even broke to halter. Thanks to that and her desire to prove herself, she was trained to be a sled racer. For a young mare, she took to it easily and even seemed faster than some of the stallions that looked almost twice her size. She was a determined young thing. She especially loved to please her Miss Annie because Miss Annie was her person and the Big Boss' daughter. Miss Annie had been the one to introduce her to sledding. She would also pull sleighs for sleigh rides. She loved giving kids ride and hear them cheering for her. She loved to kick up the snow.

Dappled Blue Taffy with Bald Face

Santana was as wild as her name suggests. She was also quite fast. As lead mare of her herd, she took no bull from the stallion. As lead mare, it was her duty to lead the herd and it was his to protect it. There were times he could lead to different areas but it was mostly her job. When her life mate was defeated by a younger stallion, she stayed with her herd but let the young stallion know what the pecking order was. She wasn't going to let him boss her around or replace her. She knew all the good winter, summer, spring, and fall spots. She also knew where to take the herd during the roundups. Seldom was her herd ever caught. It was only due to the young stallion that they were caught and Esper along with other yearlings as well as the young stallion got caught. She and some of the others were released. They would then merge with the remaining horses from other herds and form a larger one with her still as lead mare. She kept hoping find her life mate and one day she did as he once more claimed his place as the stallion of her herd.

Name: Sarāb/Mirage
Gender: Stallion
Coat: Sooty Buckskin?

Inspired by Akhal Teke's iconic golden coats <3

Word Count: 264
Backstory:
Sarāb, or better known as Mirage, is nothing short of extraordinary. This stallion has earned himself a reputation during his life at the mercy of the Oasis Island.
Ever elusive and mighty, researchers lucky enough to spot this desert treasure say his coat shimmers so bold and bright, from a distance its as if he blurred into the sand - thus earning his title "Mirage".

During the years of the Oasis Island rescue expeditions, Mirage was one of the last Barbs to be transported - his herds numbers dwindled, and the stallion was thought to be passed. This was until scouts had rumoured a golden horse roaming nearby a corralled group of Barb, bringing hopeful news to those familiar with Mirage.

Giving the expedition workers a run for their money, Mirage was eventually "coaxed" into the holding pens - the catchers packed up for the night and returned in the morning to find Mirage had somehow put himself inside the corrals at his own accord; assumed to have jumped the high-standing fence line to reunite with his herd.

Tale of this stallion spread to sponsors: a striking and strong-willed stallion, with jumping capability beyond this world. Owners of Horsegirl Haven were in awe of this horse, keeping a close eye on his progress and awaiting the day he'd be cleared for adoption.

They say if you were so fortunate to get up close and personal, you can see the colours of the Oasis desert in his eyes. This Barb is an embodiment of the Oasis Islands unforgiving desert - resilient, stubborn, and breathtakingly beautiful.

Black Splash With Blaze and Brown Eyes

Cortega had never been wild. He had been born on the ranch. Ever since he was a young foal, he knew that he was meant for barrel racing and calf roping. He would follow in his sire's steps. He also knew he belonged to the boss man and that he would be his horse. The boss man took his time in getting him ready to be ridden. He would be three years old before the boss man would fully ride him for long periods of time and that was when his training started. He would go to be a prize winning stallion. By the time they brought home a wild dunalino yearling, he was fifteen with twelve years of experience. Like his father before him, he would tell Esper what her purpose would be. He would first tell her it was barrel racing but there was something more important. Her most important purpose was to be Paulie's friend.

Dappled Dunalino With Star and Snip

Esper was born wild. She was just a yearling when the mustang roundup caught her herd. While others were released, she and other young ones were auctioned off. She would be bought by a father wanting a horse for his daughter. As she seemed to be the most gentle one of the bunch, she was the one he chose. Unlike most, he gentle broke her not wanting to harm her or destroy her spirit. Esper liked her new home and loved her young girl who promised her that they would win all kinds of ribbons in barrel racing. Esper didn't understand any of it. She just liked listening to her speak and how she smiled. It would be a big black splash stallion named Cortega that told her about what barrel racing meant. He would also tell her about the other Western disciplines. He also told her many stories of her little girl. All the stories made her love Paulie more and more.
