Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Prompt:
It isn't the most amazing story or anything. She simply jumped over the edge. There was no storm or anything. So she jumped ship when they weren't looking. She's an aquatic equine, after all. She began to swim, underwater and as fast as possible, and eventually came up on shore.

Show Name: Playing it Koi
Barn Name: Koi
Gender: Mare
Height: 11.3 hh
Halter Color: artist's choice
Prompt: Koi is a big fan of mythology, so she took inspiration from the myth of Hades and Persephone for her escape plan. She convinced the pirates to let her go, under the agreement that she would join them again for the fall and winter months. Her argument was pretty convincing - she hates the cold weather and they sail closer to the equator during these colder months, so why wouldn't she want to go with them and escape the frosty days? (Whether or not she'll stay true to her agreement is to be determined, but the pirates believed her!)

Prompt: She wouldn't say it was easy- quite the opposite, actually- but it was ingenious. All it took was a screwdriver, a shard of glass, the ship cat, and taking the pirate captain hostage. Actually that last bit was the easiest part. That ship cat hated her.

Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

this was so funnn c:
this shiny finny friend was inspired loosely by a bass fish

How will the trotter get along with other pets at home, considering it's past with pirates?
don't stress about the length of your answer - quality over quantity always c:

Field Research
The Cryptozoologists have been very busy following up on a lead about new Sprigon Elements! However, they need your help doing research out in the field! What kind of mysteries will you help them uncover?

Rules:

You may conduct field research once per week, until the event ends! (current end date: May 31st) The weekly reset is one week after your previous post. (I am not picky about the exact time, just as long as its the same day of the week!)

Outcomes are rolled using a random number generator. You may find items or a new Sprigon, and you can even uncover new Sprigon lore in the process!

Feel free to use roleplay elements in your posts! You may choose to bring a helper if you'd like to involve any of your current Sprigons in your research for story purposes!

Your first Research entry will automatically earn a Coloring Ticket for Color a Thing, get a Sprigon!

You may choose to conduct the following types of research:

Testing the Water!
Increases the chance of finding Water Trait items or Water Sprigons!

Testing the Soil!
Increases the chance of finding Earth Trait items or Earth Sprigons!

Testing the Air Quality
Increases the chance of finding Sky Trait items or Sky Sprigons!

Exploring for evidence!
Anything goes! An even chance of finding any sort of Trait item or Sprigon.

Link to previous research post: Currently None.
Writing: Miles has a new-found project it seems. The other day, he approached me with a small shovel in paw and a bucket over his head as a helmet declaring "MAKE WAY! This is now an excavation site!"
So of course I had to ask just what he was doing. He eagerly told me about his new "scientific venture", and how he was going to dig up soil samples and test them for "strange and abnormal tastes". I gently reminded him not to eat dirt, and asked him why he felt this was neccessary.
Apparently, Shirl had mentioned that there was something different about the grass and soil... something "strange, unusual and new." I'm not sure what that means, but that Sprigon always seemed to have a sixth sense for these kinds of things. And if Miles was invested in this investigation, someone would need to make sure he didn't get carried away.
So this week Miles and I are going to do a little digging together. I even bought a few new "scientific" tools for us to play with. Even if nothing comes out of it, I know Miles will have a good time. He has invited some of the other yard critters to join him. So I'm about to have my hands full this week...

Range Trotter #STF047 based on this drawing by HowlingHooves
by coaliev @ Fri May 17, 2024 11:28 pm [Reply]

Typhoon was by far one of the most intimidating trotters to rescue. He had a cold and frightening look. It almost made me wonder if he was a captured trotter or one of the pirate’s steeds. However, after his cell gate opened with a long creak, he stepped out. Eyes boring holes into me. However, his gaze held no hostility. As I was about to guide him away with a rope, he stopped. He turned his head away, refusing to led me tie the rope around him. I was puzzled but decided to ask why.

He turned and headed to the cell next to his. It was empty. Or so I thought. With a gentle tap on the rusty gate, something started to shift in the cell. It skittered with frightening speed across the damp floor. It crawled up along Typhoon’s legs and rested itself at the base of his neck. The sight before my eyes sent chills down my spine.

    Who would’ve thought….

    Typhoon befriended a giant centipede.

Curiosity piqued my interest and shone a flashlight between the bars but not seeing anything out the ordinary I ventured in the cage. After sifting through the hay, I gave up and went to leave the cage. Near the entrance I spotted a pink ball and thinking this is what Ace wanted I reached out to pick it up and as soon as my finger brushed against the ball seemed to uncurl and what was no standing in front of me I could’ve believe. A small armadillo was nestled into the hay and looking over as Ace started to dance on his feet I scooped the armadillo up and left with the pair
