Hopefully, this is the final concept for Athena's armour. I wanted to transition to her Greek namesake, so I included a plumed headpiece and the Aegis that the goddess Athena is famous for. However, I had wanted the armour to retain its appearance of looking light and not too bulky. Ideally it would be made of a micro-lattice of nickel phosphorus, which is a recently invented type of metal that is the lightest so far to be discovered but is still as strong as normal metal. Nickel phosphorus is also resilient under strain. This main metal would contain both nickel phosphorus and electrum, the latter of which adds weight so that the armour isn't too light. The dark blue is gems for accents, the lighter blue is anodized niobium and cobalt mixture. The parts where the armour may chafe the fur are lined with the feathers discarded from butterbirds. The chest plate also has discarded Kronador fangs embedded into it for protection.

Wow. You really put a lot of thought on that armor. How long did you spend looking that stuff up? (yes i realize this is from last year but why not ask anyway.)

Hehe, when I design armor, it's more of a spontaneous thing that I do out of the blue. So I came up with the concept as I was drawing it; I would say it took me an hour in total to design, and then some more time to transfer to this reference and make another digital drawing. Researching the materials took maybe fifteen minutes? I already kind of knew what I wanted, and Google works wonders.

Ah, I see. It does make sense. X3 I actually find it a bit challenging when trying to research metals and minerals for some of my own characters. Guess that just means I gotta study up some more.

Mythology concepts always tend to have a nice view then what we see now. Something graceful about it.

For me, what helped in redesigning the armor was to think of the personality that my character had. She's very shy, and doesn't like to fight a lot. She's also small and delicate, so I figured that I should choose some sort of lighter metal. The blue went with the gold color, so I also had to go look up metals and other substances that might naturally give a blue color. In terms of armor design, due to her name, which refers to a Greek goddess, it was helpful to research what Athena would have worn, so the chest-plate, helmet, feather-like attachments, and Greek etchings are based on parts of the traditional Athena description, such as the aegis and the fact that her bird was the owl. To match her personality, I rounded the corners on the armor to give it a more non-threatening appearance.
So to find the materials was just a few simple searches of 'light metals' and 'blue metals and gems', if I recall, and then looking through different results to see which would be the most appropriate.
Whenever I design armor, I try to think of what kind of character would wear it. For example, for my other WoI, who is more aggressive, and holds herself in a very regal manner, I made a more sharp-edged armor that looks a lot more defensive and would do better in an battle, while keeping some more feminine and queenly elements such as cloth and small gems.
