When getting a new bird, you should try your best to take it slow. Food is a great motivation for birds, if I were you, I would have a special little treat that you feed him that is not included in his daily diet, so that he has plenty to eat but still wants a little treat. A great option would be millet spray. Some birds, like my conure, don't like millet that much, in this position I would try to feed him fresh fruits and vegetables. You can mix and match with food to see what he likes, but make sure not to feed him anything toxic! (here is a small list of the main toxic foods for birds) Attaching onto the food idea, you should give him a small treat every time he is in your hands, this way he knows your hands are good. (make sure not to over feed though x3)
