Re: All About Horse Birds

Postby p-ond » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:20 am

All About The Equus Avis:

Anatomy
They live around normal horse years, maturing at three and living to a maximum of 30 years. They range in height from 12hh to 15hh, a huge range.
The coats of these beasts consist of hair and fine feathers, which are incredibly soft, but fragile and easily extracted when the animal is dead, meaning that skins from EQAs are not so sought after. As with normal horses, the coat grows thick in the winter, and in some cases, more vibrant colours become paler, and in summer the coat is thinner.
Their features include large, birdlike eyes, very small nostrils, and small ears.

The bones of these animals are similar to bird's bones, in that they are very light and fragile, with pockets of air inside. This means that they cannot take much weight, and so it is difficult for them to be ridden without causing serious damage.
Colouration and Patterning
Most colours occur, ranging from base bays blacks and browns to roan and dun. Most have bird catcher and/ or bend or spots, and they sometimes occur on the body in tones of their feather colour. But this is quite rare. Appaloosa markings are not so likely to occur, but are possible due to a small amount of Knabstrupper blood in this species' stream.
Characterisation
A small amount of characterisation is allowed, e.g changing the length of the mane, making it look thicker or wispier etc. Small accessories are also allowed, like headcollars, or braids. You may not overload them with accessories, one or two maximum.
Habitat
They live in northern and mid- northern Europe, with the largest populations in countries such as Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus. Some colonies have been found to survive as far north as finland and mid Russia. Some live in southern Sweden and Denmark (Denmark also is the area where most spotted Avis' are found), but are not so common in Norway.
They usually live in areas of high ground, hilly and mountainous parts are usual. It is not unheard of to find herds near the sea, by areas with large cliffs or drops. These animals are able to live on flat plains land, too, tending to stay in larger herds in these areas. [I have not entirely researched this part of Europe yet, so bear with if some details are inaccurate]
Eating Habits
    Coming soon.
Behaviour
    Coming soon.
Evolution
Equus Avis' did not evolve from early horses, but rather from birds, and due to similar habitats and climates as their rather distant relations, they, despite the unlikeliness, developed incredibly similar traits to the past and modern horse, evolving with them, and changing in anatomy equally at similar stages to the horse. [this is practically impossible but IN THE NAME OF MADE UP SPECIES- it happened, ok?] They retained early features from their ancestors [havent researched, no idea what that creature is] such as the tail, and feathered legs.

Re: Christmas Event!

Postby p-ond » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:21 am

Christmas Event!

What's happening?
Well, this event is going to be based around your EQA's personality and reactions. There will be two options to enter 1) Where you draw your Equus' reaction and 2) where you write or describe it. More information below.

Option 1.
You will have to draw the expression/reaction of your EQA when they are given one of the objects from 'The twelve days of christmas' song.

    For example [Featuring my Spec]:
*Spec is given three french hens*
Spec: Um. Um, okay, no I don't even know what is wrong with you. Why would I want these? I don't even like poultry.

Option 2.
You will have to write or describe the expression/reaction of your EQA when they are given one of the objects from 'The twelve days of christmas' song.

    For example [Featuring my Alice]:
    Image

    2. General manners and no whining please.
    3. You may borrow somebody else's EQA to participate if you wish, only with their permission.

    5. Any item may be chosen, but it must be the same quantity as in the song
    6. Entries must be PMed to me!
    7. Headshots and fullbodies are both alowed, do not have to be shaded.

Prizes!
Prizes will be the same for both options.

Edward Bear X Ireland eyed the girl beside her as they walked down the mountain, one of the girl's hands buried in the Equus' fluffy mane. Today was Christmas, a day Edd had been anticipating for months. Usually her little mare's personality would be a damper someone else's fun, but the girl found her amusing. And anyway, she was stuck with her for the day, no getting out of it. Considering Edd lives in America, there was hardly anytime to come and visit, she had to make the most of everything she had. The small winged buckskin was without a halter, and followed willingly to her fate. Soon they reached a small cliff side holding a single large evergreen tree, which held two presents wrapped in silver paper and a small cage. Ireland glanced over at Edd, disbelief coloring her gaze, she never expected anything and had no time to recolor her emotions. She rubbed her muzzle over her girl's arm before trotting to the tree, the girl followed at a slower pace, being hampered by her overly large coat and layered pants. The excitement in the small equus' eyes could be compared to that of a child, as she had never celebrated the holiday before. When Edd had finally reached her destination, she sat down and started opening one of the glittery presents. Ireland lipped at the girl's hair gently, watching her hands.
As the wrapper came off, the buckskin moved in to investigate. The box held a variety of treats, carrots, mints, sugar cubes, and horse cookies. Ireland gave a small horsey smile, tucking her legs under her as she settled down to watch the human's long fingers open the cage. The smile quickly turned to a frown as two turtle doves hopped out, ruffling their feathers. Ireland glanced up at Edd, un-amused which made Edd giggle. The laughter escalated as the turtle doves scrambled their way up onto the mare's back. Luckily the laughter scared the doves, and they flew from the tense back. A soft glare was shot at the human girl, but the small horse-like creature did nothing but wait. Edd smiled, her outburst having died down. "Look, go find that stallion you've befriended, and we'll share the treats. The other present can wait." the pair stood and walked off up the mountain, Ireland chewing a few of the cookies, and Edd eating some of the sugar cubes.
    Fantasy Girl X

2nd:
