Kiridae are a particular breed of Kirin-Bovid hybrid, maintained by humans and humanoids of the land of Alterius in an attempt to domesticate this particular subset of dragon. Their fondness for the Progenitor Kirins, lords over the land, brought them to create this fully-fledged species. Since its origin, the breeders have been able to maintain their numbers through good animal husbandry practices and have even introduced new lines over time. It is said there are 22 original Progenitors, although we truly suspect there to be more that were less renowned than these original 22.
Kiridae never grow beyond a "dwarfed" body. Even though they may be considered child-like in appearance, they can range anywhere from 8ft to 15ft tall and may live for a millennia or longer, should they die of old age. Diseases are very rare and nearly non-existent. Poaching is uncommon but not impossible, which makes maintenance of these herds a security consideration.
Kirids make good riding companions in the cold mountain ranges and cool dewy forest valleys of Alterius. Their body temperatures are slightly higher than normal bovid species (around 103-104 Fahrenheit on average) and their scales help prevent unnecessary heat loss due to cold stress. Kirids may also have small animal companions of their own, possessing a remnant telepathic and empathic connection from their dragon ancestors which allows them to communicate with to other non-Kirid species.

species guidelines
This is a lore-based species, please try to remain in the lore of the world of Alterius while participating in species spaces. You are allowed to expand on your own personal lore but should not try to change what is already established. Alternate universe forms of Kiridae are permitted, but all ophanimera-made characters exist within the world of Alterius. If you opt-out of the lore, your character may be used as a generic Kirin.
All lore and art assets made by official staff are reserved for the use of the species for all intents and purposes. Adopts made off these lines may be transferred into the species and onto these lines with permission of the species owner and any other applicable artists. Kiridae-originated adopts are allowed to be transferred out of the species at any time, to any other species.
The mainpage oekaki for this species (this thread) also functions as the masterlist and archive for all adopts within the species. Off-oekaki Kiridae are not allowed. Custom adopts/Make-Your-Own slots are granted to any member of the public who wishes to be added, just ask ophanimera for permission. Adopts must be posted with their ID number, which is determined by order of being posted. The first adopt is 0001, second is 0002, and so forth.
Kirids may be traded, gifted, or sold, but for values worth no more than they have been originally purchased for. There are two exceptions. First, commissioned art is allowed to add to the value of a Kirid but only for the additional purchase price of the art commissioned. Second, art you make of a Kirid you own may only be added to its worth for resale purposes if the artwork has been assigned a reasonable value.
