At the sight of the she-cat, Willowcloud gasped out of both delight and concern, for she looked like she was about to deliver any moment now. "We need to get you to camp quickly, hurry!" She and Emberstar helped the queen into the nursery where the exhausted she-cat lay down, breathing heavily, and Willowcloud began frantically running from her medicine store to the nursery.

"She's certainly excited about this," Frostpaw remarked to her mentor. Ashenclaw nodded. "It'll be nice to have some kits around." He smiled, wondering what they would look like.

It was funny how fast the atmosphere had changed from pleasant and lively to chilling and dismal in such a short time, Lizardstripe and Fawnfur were the only warriors who stayed behind from patrols, and therefore were the only warriors to hear the painful screams coming from the nursery. The tabby tom stared down at his paws, unsheathed and trembling, while his companion crouched besides him with her eyes wide as full moons and the fur along her back raised from fright. Fawnfur was staring at the nursery, unblinking as she waited for either Skunknose, Weaselstorm, or Owlfur to appear. Lizardstripe followed her gaze, though he quickly looked away as he remembered the the harsh sound of the leader's screams as she kitted.

Finally, after a long time, Lizardstripe tried to break the dreadful silence. "Do you... do you think she's okay?" He asked to Fawnfur, who blinked and stared at him with scared eyes before shaking her head 'no'. "I've heard kitting is hard but... that was too - too awful." She replied, her voice trembling as she threatened to cry. Lizardstripe released a heavy sigh, he had expected for the prospect of new kits to fill him with some kind of pride that their Clan was growing but now all he felt was bitter sadness and loss.

In the silent nursery itself lay Shadowstar, who lacked the former grace and power she was known for as she lay motionless against the floor with no strength to even lift her head or breath properly. She could only feel the warmth of her newborn kits and the raw pain in her throat from screaming earlier, her ear twitched as she could hear the hushed whispers of Owlfur and Skunknose as they were discussing the state of both her and the kittens. Shadowstar felt a stab of pain in her chest as Skunknose confessed that one of her kits was too weak to survive long. "A-ah, I see..." She heard Owlfur mew dejectedly, trailing off to stare at her and their kits. Skunknose sighed, her guilt for not being able to save the leader or do anything for her kit was clear. "I'm going to collect herbs, Weaselstorm is outside if you need anything." The medicine cat mewed softly, she took one last glance at Shadowstar before leaving the den.

As soon as Skunknose left Shadowstar struggled to speak, her mouth open and closing as she attempted to mew anything. "N- na -" She began, her voice raspy and weak. Owlfur immediately went to her side and protested that she should rest before saying anything but she ignored him. "-me them. I can't." Shadowstar finished, grimacing in pain as she fell silent again. Owlfur frowned, not able to find any kind of happiness in the birth of his kits. "Molekit for the tom, Shadekit for the molly." He mewed quietly, giving Shadowstar a comforting lick on the cheek and then leaving the den himself only to meet the anxious looks of the rest of the Clan as Skunknose had relayed the news of what happened.

There was one unfamiliar cat with them, a pure white cat who looked more confused than anything. Owlfur made his way up to her place besides Minkcloud, who looked she wanted to say something to comfort the deputy, but she stopped as she realized nothing she said could help. "Who's this?" Owlfur asked, the young cat looked away from him while Minkcloud gave him a nervous smile and responded. "This is Laurel, she's the kittypet we scented, and uh, she wanted to join." Owlfur grunted, staring at Laurel and back at Minkcloud. "She'll be Laurelpaw then, you can train her, Minkcloud." He mewed, Minkcloud tried not to be disappointed in his lackluster response as she knew he was feeling at his lowest. "...Of course, sir. Come on, Laurelpaw."

Owlfur did not even watch as the two mollies leaved to train, only turning away to approach Mintclaw, who quickly came up to him with a concerned expression. "Owlfur, are you alright? You look like death!" She exclaimed, making Owlfur wince over remembering how Shadowstar had died during her kitting as well. "I just need rest, Mintclaw. Could you... set up patrols again?" He asked, though he knew she would say yes, as she went off to go organize everything Owlfur decided to spend the rest of the day in the warriors' den to contemplate about everything that had happened today.

hearing the news that echoclan would be attacked by streamclan, bristleclaw rallied up three other cats - crowfall, cloudwatcher, and snowmouse - to join him in helping out their ally. chestnutstar had seemed rather disappointed that she could no join in on the fight, but she had to care for the new litter of kittens. palenose stayed behind to gather more herbs and keep watch over chestnutstar and the kits while hawkeye and frecklepaw patrolled the borders and kept an eye out for anything. secretly, blossompaw was a little upset that they had to postpone her ceremony due to the attack, but she promised to keep an eye on chestnustar. besides, the kittens were absolutely adorable! she would enjoy watching over them whenever chestnutstar needed a short break.

the four felines from obsidianclan arrived when streamclan made their attack on echoclan. the deputy and warriors ran in to aid their ally in fending off the enemy. in the end, echoclan and obsidianclan had the victory, and streamclan was retreating. releasing one last hiss, bristleclaw looked at the warriors from obsidianclan to see if everyone was okay. after he checked up on them, he went to squirrelstar to speak with her about the fight. cloudwatcher found herself standing near a tom from echoclan, blazefur. "have you and streamclan been enemies for a while?"

hawkeye and frecklepaw patrolled the borders together. they were patrolling near the east border where the territory met with swiftclan's border. while they were walking, he wandered a bit away from the tom to see if he could spot sweetpaw. it had been several moons since they last saw each other, and he was curious to see how she was doing.

after everyone had returned from the attack, they held a ceremony for blossompaw. she had been waiting for this all day!

Brambletooth padded briskly back into camp, gently but firmly carrying the small tortoiseshell by the scruff of her neck. Speckledpaw gave a small gasp as Brambletooth and Sootpelt entered the den along with the tiny she-kit, whose tail was injured and bleeding. "What herbs should I get?" the spotted apprentice mewed automatically to his mentor. "What do you say we should use?" the dark tabby asked, his eyes wide and serious as he gazed expectantly at the younger cat. "I—I don't know!" he stammered. "Yes, you do," Sootpelt mewed calmly. Speckledpaw gaped at him in disbelief. "A medicine cat needs to know how to make decisions under pressure. Think, Speckledpaw. Quickly!" the tabby meowed urgently. The small kit stirred, a pitiful wail escaping from her mouth. "Cobwebs. And... marigold?" the apprentice mewed, unsure of himself. "Are you sure?" Sootpelt pressed. Speckledpaw questioned himself for a brief moment, then nodded. "I'm certain of it," he meowed, swiftly retrieving the herbs that were needed. "You'll be a good medicine cat," Sootpelt murmured softly as they applied the herbs. Minutes later, the newly-named Mottledkit was curled up near the back of the medicine den, bravely enduring the pain of her tail without protest. "Good job with Mottledkit, Speckledpaw," Sootpelt purred approvingly to his apprentice, who puffed out his chest in pride. "You can stay here with her; I'll go and see if I can recover the herbs we used," the medicine cat mewed. Speckledpaw nodded goodbye and the gray tabby padded off.

Robinstar padded up to Swiftfern, her tail flicking slowly back and forth. "Hello, Swiftfern," the leader mewed with a smile. Swiftfern dipped her head in greeting. "Birdkit and Sparkkit are six moons old now, correct?" she mewed. Swiftfern nodded, gazing at her two kits with love and pride. "I can't believe how quickly they grow up," she mewed fondly, a hint of longing for the past in her tone. "It seems like only yesterday that they were smaller than bunnies." Swiftfern shook her head quickly as if to clear her mind. "I'm sorry, what is it you wanted to say?" she asked the leader. "I was just wondering if, since you won't be staying in the nursery anymore, you would be okay with mentoring Mink," Robinstar mewed, motioning with her tail to the new apprentice who was sitting quietly on his own. Swiftfern brightened. "Of course! Thank you, Robinstar," the tabby queen purred. When she had first joined the clan, Swiftfern and Robinstar had a mutual dislike for one another. As the moons went on, however, the two she-cats grew to first tolerate one another, then gradually come to enjoy each other's presence. Robinstar nodded with a kind smile before padding to her den to figure out mentors for Swiftfern's own two kits. About an hour later, the brown-and-white leader leapt onto the Half-Fallen Tree, calling the clan together for a meeting. Swiftfern emerged from the nursery, nudging her two kits forward. They had been groomed meticulously, and their tabby pelts seemed to glow in the sunlight. Birdkit sat obediently beneath the tree, but Sparkkit tried to jump up onto the trunk, stopping only when his mother took him by the scruff and sat him next to his sister. Birdkit stifled a giggle as Swiftfern hastily tried to straighten the ginger kit's fur. Robinstar beckoned to Mink, and the young tom cautiously padded forward until he was beside Birdkit. The leader smiled, slightly, then opened her mouth and began the ceremony.

"Hey, Tumbleflight, I want to show you something," Weaselthroat meowed. She never got any alone time with the tom, and she refused to let Iceberry win him. As they were leaving camp, the patrol returned with a small black-and-white cat in tow. "Are we leaving?" Tumbleflight meowed as Weaselthroat stopped in her tracks. "I, uh, actually, forgot what I was going to show you." He looked at her, a puzzled expression on his face, but soon realized that she had lost all interest in talking to him and eventually left. As the patrol dispersed, the new cat stood still, looking around with wide eyes. Weaselthroat approached them, a smile on her face. "Hey, I'm Weaselthroat," she meowed casually. The other cat stared. "I'm, um, Sheep." As Troutstar walked past, Weaselthroat casually remarked, "Not for long. You'll probably get your new name when Ashpaw has her apprentice ceremony."
All thoughts of Tumbleflight were gone at the sight of this newcomer. Soon, the ceremony rolled around. After Ashpaw - sorry, Ashbreeze - had her ceremony, it was the new cat's turn. They stood shakily on the tree, glancing around uncertainly. "Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and join us as a new member of ReedClan?" Troutstar asked. "Um, yes," the cat stuttered. "Then from this day forward, you will be known as Ryestem." As the cats cheered the new member, they glanced around, surprised. "Thank you," they meowed when the cheering was done. Then they scrambled down the tree, followed gracefully by Troutstar. "He's going to make a great warrior!" Herontuft remarked. Ryestem stopped and looked at them. "I'm, um, actually a she-cat," she remarked. Then she padded off to join a patrol Silverwing was forming. Every cat who had heard stared at her as she walked past. "I think he needs to check again," Barkstone finally remarked, and multiple cats nodded their agreement. Weaselthroat blinked at them, shocked. Had they never met a transgender cat? "No, she's transgender. It's like, well, imagine if you were exactly the same but everyone thought you were a she-cat," Weaselthroat told Barkstone. He blinked in confusion. "But I'm a tom!" She nodded. "Exactly - that's how she feels." Throughout the day, the news slowly spread, with various reactions. But by the end of the day, nobody was calling Ryestem "he" anymore, and Weaselthroat was proud to know that she had helped her new crush.

Saddled with two new apprentices, Foxbelly and Branchbelly had agreed it best to train the two siblings together. Both of the little apprentices seemed intent on not showing their mentors just how excited they were, talking quietly and exchanging wide grins when they thought the older cats weren't looking. "C'mon you two, I've got some cool moves I wanna teach you!" Foxbelly chirped, bounding past Pigeonpaw and Owlpaw towards the training hollow. With Branchbelly bringing up the rear, the four made their way out into the forest.

Robinstar had been looking forward to this trip, ever-eager to report the goingons of his clan to his ancestors. As he settled down beside the moonpool, he faintly remembered the anxiety he felt during his first trips. It amused him now. Touching his nose to the water, he succumbed to sleep and awoke in the familiar fields of Starclan. "More kits are on the way, and we have more in the nursery and new apprentices." He purred, speaking as soon as he had his bearings. "My clan is prospering, and I would give anything to see it grow further. Would you grant me a new clanmate? A cat from any walk of life, I will gratefully take into my family."

The medicine duo was out again, foraging in silence. Finchtuft had been regarding his mentor with a cold eye as of late. Despite her thick fur he had noticed the rounding of her belly, something the untrained eye might not pick up. He'd seen enough pregnant she-cats to be suspicious. As Rippleberry was nosing around the underbrush, Finchtuft finally spoke up. "Why didn't you tell me." He said flatly, startling the blue she-cat. He swore that he noticed a tremor in the practiced flick of her tail. "What do you mean?" She replied calmly, leveling him with a warning stare. "That you broke the code we're supposed to live by." He hissed, ears pulling back. A flicker of fear crossed her gaze, giving Finchtuft more than enough answer. He scoffed, shaking his head and turning to leave. Desperate, Rippleberry lunged forward to block his way, her movements more sluggish than usual. "I'm sorry, Finchtuft please. I didn't mean for - I'm-" She fumbled over herself, drawing reluctant sympathy from Finchtuft. They stood in silence, neither willing to yield. Ultimately it was the younger tom who gave way, fur along his spine bristling. "I'll help you, but only because I won't endanger the lives of innocent kits. Understand?" His voice was cold, and it drove icy thorns into her heart. Defeated, she hung her head. "Yes." It was barely audible. With a dark scowl, Finchtuft turned his back on her and continued to forage for herbs.

Aspenpaw took a moment to collect his thoughts before answering truthfully, "It's alright." He responded curtly, not saying anything else. She nodded thoughtfully, only slightly disappointed in his cold, reserved nature. "Well, perhaps you'll feel more excited after our first training session." She mentioned hopefully, a small smile gracing her facial features.

"Waspfur, you're going to come hunt with me." Sheepclaw meowed decisively. "Pinefur, please see to it that the borders are patrolled. " The solid gray medicine cat nodded in acknowledgement before leaving camp.
