sorry it took me a year to respond, I keep forgetting I have this thread up and I've had near permanent artblock for a few months now but the important thing to keep in mind when posing a bipedal character is their centre of gravity (orange line), the character needs to look balanced with the line dividing their weight in equal halves, if the centre is off the character wont look like they could realisticly stand up and we can see that very easily. for me it can also help to imagine the skeleton of the character, it doesnt need to be too accurate, just some lines that indicate where big bones would be (pink on single leg sketches, blue on fullbody).
