@Spanner
When getting a new bird, you should try your best to take it slow. Food is a great motivation for birds, if I were you, I would have a special little treat that you feed him that is not included in his daily diet, so that he has plenty to eat but still wants a little treat. A great option would be millet spray. Some birds, like my conure, don't like millet that much, in this position I would try to feed him fresh fruits and vegetables. You can mix and match with food to see what he likes, but make sure not to feed him anything toxic! (here is a small list of the main toxic foods for birds) Attaching onto the food idea, you should give him a small treat every time he is in your hands, this way he knows your hands are good. (make sure not to over feed though x3)

I think that I'm feeding him millet, though its just little seeds. I've got this mix of small seeds and lager ones, and he only seems to eat the smaller ones.

I want to find something that he likes, but he seems to ignore anything I try.... Would the best way to try treats be giving it on my hand with some of his normal feed, or put some between his bars, and see if he eats it?

@Spanner I would try pasta, but make sure not to feed him it to much, don't let it become his main food source. Some other ideas are:
-fresh fruit/vegetables
-cereal/grains/oats
-plain popcorn (make sure there is no salt/sugar added!)

How many birds do you own? ( if applicable ): One, a Cockatiel <3
How long have you had them?: I have had him for 8 years!
What brings you to the bird chat?: I love my little baby! I have had him forever! His name is Poppi, and my grandmother owned him and many other birds before I got him. I picked him out because I felt a bond between us and I just adore him! He was not had fed or anything as a young baby, and he used to be EXTREMELY agressive. I have got him to the point where I can kiss him on the head <3 and I can rub his neck and hold him without a towel (so he doesn't bite me, I used to have to do this). Now his bites are very minor, and are almost like butterfly kisses x3. He used to draw blood. I am so proud with how far we have come, and this is very recently that he has been like this, only about two years ago was I able to hold him without some sort of protection for my hand (like a towel or glove). Now he sits on my finger, and shoulder and munches on my hair.

@Birman Kitty aww that's so sweet! I'm glad he has a nurturing home with you!

Also as a side note, I think I will be adopting a sweet older senegal within the next few months! I need to get everything together and buy the appropriate sized cage before hand of course, but I have decided I can take on another birdie in my life! He is 6 years old, and I have been working with him at this place I volunteer at and according to the manager of the store, he was a breeder bird until he was probably 4, and I am the first human he has ever willingly stepped up onto. We have made a lot of progress together, and I am happy to say he has chosen me as his human! He is so so sweet, so here's a picture of him a few months ago:

Image
* Dang sorry for how big this picture is!*

He does have a lot of behavioral issues, but I just cannot believe how far he has let me go with him! I am in awe, and cannot wait to bring the cutie home!(:
